Saturday:9 Hotel California....

Thanks to Samantha for this week's Saturday:9!!

Hotel California

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Hotel California (1977)
... Because Country Dew suggested it. Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Composer Don Henley says this song is about the "journey from innocence to experience." Where do find yourself on that journey? Are you more innocent, or experienced?  At age 64, I've been journeying for awhile now.  I believe I'm more experienced now than innocent.

2) The lyrics refers to the "warm smell of colitas." Do you know what it is that the Eagles noticed in the air?   A good whiff of Mary Jane.....

3) The girl in the song had her head turned by luxury, including jewelry from Tiffany's and Mercedes Benz autos. Do you consider yourself materialistic?  Good heavens no.

4) This recording has been lauded by music publications for its long guitar solo. Are you good on the guitar?   No.  Never learned to play.

5) There's an error in the lyrics and Don Henley can get a bit testy when interviewers bring it to his attention. Here's the lyric: "So I called up the captain and said, 'Please bring me your wine.' He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here since 1969.'" Do you know what's wrong with it?  I have to admit I looked it up.  It seems wine is fermented and not a 'spirit' which is distilled.

6) Known as the Eagles' drummer, Henley now spends less time at his drum kit. Sitting at that angle for an extended period of time hurts his back. Sam believes this proves all those warnings she heard from her parents about good posture are true. Do you pay attention to your posture?  Kinda sorta.  I'm tall and was reminded all the time when I was growing up to "stand up straight" rather than hunch over trying to look shorter.  I don't hunch over, but do slouch on the sofa....

7) Joe Walsh is considered the wild man of the Eagles. Think of your circle of friends. Who is the most unpredictable?  Oh gosh, I've never thought about it that way.  I can't say that any of my friends are 'unpredictable' though a few are more daring than I am...but not really unpredictable.

8) In 1977, Star Wars premiered. How many Star Wars movies have you seen?  Only the original first three, which are 4, 5, and 6 I think??? It's been a long time since I watched them.

9) Random question: "Nosocomephobia" is the fear of hospitals. Are you nosocomephobic?  No. I'm not afraid of hospitals, thank goodness. I've spent some time in hospitals over the years, between Joe's health problems and mine.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks for your visit today!!  Peace & hugs!

  3. I've always like the melody of that song, never paid much attention to the lyrics! I have been teased about my name being Mary Jane. Have a great weekend!

  4. Me, too! I liked Hotel California, but never paid attention to the lyrics ... totally out of character.
Hope you're having a ball with the 'kids'!

  5. Your answer about posture made me remember how my dad was constantly on me for a couple of years to "stand up straight." I mostly listened, but I still love a good slouch on a comfy couch.

  8. I think that song was kind of like background noise to me and I never paid attention to the lyrics. I had no idea about wine not being a spirit. I'm tall and I was always reminded not to slouch, too.
