I was clicking through old photos, looking for something to share for Throwback Thursday.....
Years ago, I was a member of our church's Parish Council. It was interesting and also a little maddening. Not a job I ever want again. Our Priest asked me to step in and finish the term for someone who moved away. Been there, done that. God bless those who serve.
I think I posted these several years ago, but they make me happy so here they are again! My mom made these two dresses for my sister Patti and me. We were going to march in the Washington Court House, Ohio, sesquicentennial celebration parade, way back in 1960. Patti actually won first prize for "Prettiest Baby". She had a head full of red curls, all covered up in this picture.
Fast forward to many, many years later and my niece Sara (who just got married) wore my dress and my niece Kelly (Patti's daughter) wore Patti's dress for a parade in McConnelsville, Ohio. I think Patti still has the dresses. My mom was a wonderful seamstress (among other things!).
I don't have a photo to illustrate, but last night Joe had a great phone conversation with his old roommate from when he graduated from college and (they both) started working in New York City for Arthur Andersen (CPAs). Dick is also our son Jeff's Godfather. He and Joe have known each other for about 55 years. I'm so happy they connected and got to talk. Dick is older (85) and is on oxygen now 24/7. He sounded great, though, and it was fun for me to listen to them reminiscing.
That's all I have for today! I appreciate your visit and love your comments! Peace & hugs!!

What great memories and civil service is not for sissy's, that's for sure, smiles. Have a great day, Terri.
ReplyDeleteA long time ago - - my sister and I were in early elementary school - - - my paternal grandmother made gathered skirts and bonnets for us for their town's celebration. I know it was a centennial event but don't remember which one. We weren't in a parade but remember being in a crowd and watching the parade.
ReplyDeleteThat grandmother also took us to the river everyday to swim while she sat in the shade of the trees because she did not swim. It was there I learned to swim. Good memories.
Awwww....what cuties you and your sister were....and still are! ;-) Such an honor your nieces got to wear the dresses and your sister still has them. I have a little dress hanging in our bedroom that my Mamaw made me when I was a baby...yes, it's still holding together at over 60 years old! ;-) I'm gonna do a blog post about that soon. Happy Thursday to you!
ReplyDeleteGood memories and fun for Joe to reconnect with his old friend. Love the pictures of you and your Sis. Happy Thursday.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful dresses and so neat that they were used again by your nieces. I have an old sun bonnet that my Grandmother made for me. I need to get it out and try it on Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThose dresses are great. What a nice memory.
ReplyDeleteHow nice that Joe got to reconnect with an old friend.
Have a great day!
Ya, old friends are the best friends!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed these pictures, Terri!
Loved your memories and really loved the dresses! Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteThose are adorable photos that capture happy memories. Thank you for sharing them. It's always nice to reconnect with an old friend. Hope your day is blessed. ~:)
ReplyDeleteSweet! Those kind of pics makes me happy, too. Such good memories and it doesn't matter if you posted before. The dresses were fun and I like that they were worn again by your nieces. So cute. 55 years is a long time to be friends with someone and it's great they got to re-connect.
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures of the dresses. Such good memories!
ReplyDeleteI've been on a few committee's I didn't want to repeat either. :)
