Easter Parade
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks, we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
4) The biggest chocolate Easter egg was made in Italy, measured 34 feet tall, and weighed a staggering 15,000 lbs. Do you think it's possible to have too much chocolate? I do love chocolate, but yes, too much chocolate is definitely possible.
9) Easter is considered the season of rebirth. What makes you feel refreshed or rejuvenated? A good night's sleep followed by a good cup of coffee!
Saturday 9: Easter Parade
Revised and revived from the archives
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This song is best known from the 1948 movie of the same name, but it was originally written for a 1933 Broadway play called As Thousands Cheer. In the play, a young man reads about the parade in a New York newspaper and decides to go and show his lady love off to parade goers. What's the most recent parade you attended? I can't remember the last parade I attended. It may have been one I marched in, while in the band during high school! I don't seek out crowds.

2) On Broadway, the song was performed by Clifton Webb. He'd had a busy stage career, appearing in musicals as well as plays by Oscar Wilde and Noel Coward, but when he was in his mid-50s, he was considered too old to be a leading man. Broadway offers stopped coming. He was unexpectedly cast by Otto Preminger for the film noir, Laura, and a new career was born. He worked steadily in Hollywood for 20 years and earned three Oscar nominations. Tell us about a time you were grateful your life took an unanticipated turn. 1. When I met Joe (in 1983), 2. When we moved to Florida in 1989, 3. When I got my dream job at Polk Museum of Art, in 1997!!
3) Today, he's fondly remembered by the students at UCLA who have benefited from The Clifton Webb Scholarship of the Arts. If you could give an endowment to a school or charity, what would you like it to be used for? I would most likely consider helping the arts in some way, by funding art education or scholarships for art students.

5) After chocolate, the top-selling Easter candy is Peeps Marshmallow Chicks. They're so popular that they were once the subject of a Jeopardy clue. Do you often watch Jeopardy? I haven't watched Jeopardy in a long time, but I used to enjoy it.
6) Jelly beans are also popular this time of year. In a 2024 poll, jelly bean fans responded that black licorice is their favorite flavor. It's Crazy Sam's least favorite. How about you? What jelly bean flavor is at the top of your list, and which is at the bottom? I LOVE the black jelly beans!! Bottom would be lemon flavored. I like the red ones and the green ones too!
7) We've been talking a lot about sweets this morning. The only holiday that generates more candy sales is Halloween. When do you eat more candy: Easter or Halloween? Probably Easter because I love the malted milk eggs. Yum!

8) According to the National Retail Federation, Americans are doing more of their holiday shopping this year at discount "dollar stores" than at department stores like Target and Walmart. Do you often make trips to the "dollar store"? If yes, what do you usually pick up there? I go to Dollar Tree ($1.25 Tree) more often than Dollar General, but I do most of my shopping online. I'm not a shopper.

Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?

Fun stuff this morning. I did NOT have a good night's sleep last night and I have company coming for lunch...my sister and hubby for their birthdays, and some other friends from our Salt Springs days. I'm having my cup of tea now and trying to wake up and get ready for action. I could use your hospitality gifts today! LOL. Have a blessed Easter!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so with you on #9, Terri. Happy Easter!!!
ReplyDeleteI also love black jellybeans, smiles. Wishing you a beautiful Happy Easter.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a parade in years either and I also am a fan of online shopping.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter, my friend!
I said black, too! I've not tried the malted milk eggs, but picked up a bag of Cookie Crunch (white chocolate and something else?) at Dollar Tree that practically made me do a happy dance. Happy Easter, dear friend!
ReplyDeleteI go to the Dollar Tree - but nothing is a dollar anymore. I like chocolate, but I think you could overdose. I am not familiar with Clifton Webb.
ReplyDeleteDollar tree here is 1.50 and upwards. I don't have much of a sweet tooth EXCEPT for chocolate. Love chocolate. I get dark but a good quality milk chocolate wouldn't be refused.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!
ReplyDeleteI think I would probably give to St. Jude's, La Porte has lots of parades throughout the year, the last one we attended was the Sylvan Beach Day parade, it's been a while back. I love chocolate kisses and can eat too many if I'm not careful. I'm an online shopper too. Hope you enjoying a great day.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the last parade I attended, it must have been when I was a child. What a great turn your life took. I love chocolate too but I will eat too much and think that's enough, for now. I always eat more chocolate at Easter, it tastes better in an egg shape.
ReplyDeleteLet's make a deal: I'll give you all of my black jelly beans if you will give me all of your lemon ones. Okay?
ReplyDeleteI agree, but I only bought the black ones!! LOL
DeleteDear Terri, goodness, I remember Clifton Webb! Wow, great old memories! I love chocolate as well, I don't have it often because of my pre-diabetic condition, but I do love it. :)
ReplyDeleteI think shopping at dollar stores makes perfect sense, especially since the price of almost everything is skyrocketing! And really, it is the thought that counts, people shouldn't think about how much something costs. If someone gives me a gift I never think of how much they spent on it, I am extremely grateful that they thought of me and wanted to give me a gift.
I don't like parades...only because I don't like crowds and a lot of noise. I don't mind watching it on television, but in person for the above reasons, I just don't go to see it live.
Your mention of the malted milk eggs reminds me of a chocolate bar that my mother loved when I was a little girl...it is no longer manufactured or sold, as far as I know. It was Malted Milk by (I think) the company Neilson.
I have never liked jelly beans. I never liked licorice either. But if I did rarely have a piece of licorice, it was the thin red one.
Thank you so much for sharing your posts, dear friend.
God bless you. Happy Easter to you!
I could share my black jellybeans with you! My dad always ate those.
ReplyDeleteWe had a nice cool day here today and it made me feel refreshed and rejuvenated. Loved your answers! Have a Blessed Easter weekend.

Happy Easter Terri. You could have all my black jelly beans - except I would never have any lol. Thanks for all the encouraging comments on my A-Z posts. In answer to your question of how I keep track of my books I use the site Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/?ref=nav_home It's really easy to use and I just log all my books on there. On the phone you can even just scan them in. It's stopped me buying books I've already read several times when I've been browsing in charity shops. But if you were to ask me about a particular book and what it was about I probably wouldn't be able to tell you.
