Drive My Car
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions; however, here are today's questions!
Saturday 9: Drive My Car (1965)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Who would you allow, without hesitation, to drive your car? Friends or family who have a license and I know are responsible. My car is old, scratched, and dented. Can't hurt it. LOL
2) When you're riding in the backseat, do you use your seatbelt? Only if it is a long trip that includes an Interstate freeway.
3) In this song, a young girl tells her boyfriend she wants to be a movie star. What were your aspirations when you were in your late teens/early 20's? Did you realize them? I wanted to be Nancy Drew for a while, then a beautician, an architect, or an art teacher. No, I did not realize them, though I worked in an art museum for 20 years.
4) The song was reportedly inspired in part by the relationship between popular British singer Cilla Black and her future husband. Cilla wanted him on the record label's payroll, so he became her road manager and driver. Have you ever worked for, or with, someone with whom you were romantically involved? Kinda, sorta, and it didn't work.
5) Although this Beatles song is credited to Lennon-McCartney, it was written mostly by Paul. He recalls showing up at John Lennon's house with the tune ready to go, and lyrics they both agreed were "crap." John gave Paul the car theme, and he took it from there. When has someone recently helped you out of a jam? Neighbors Susan and Chuck picked me up once, after a few hours in the ER. It was after 2:00 a.m., and they rescued me. Bless them. I have amazing friends who are also my dear neighbors.
(Speaking of my amazing neighbors, many of you have been praying for Paul and Anne. Paul died yesterday afternoon after a 3+ year battle with leukemia. Please pray for Anne and their family. He was moved to Hospice Care just a few days ago. The kids will arrive in the early morning hours today.)
6) Paul also handles the lead vocals. When you hear a Beatles record, can you tell which band member is singing lead? Yes, they all have/had distinctive voices.
7) When it was first released, this record got a lot of attention for the intricate guitar work by Paul and George Harrison. It's got a lot of percussion on it, too, including cowbell and tambourine. Have you ever played either a cowbell or tambourine? (Do you think it sounds like fun?) I have never played a cowbell or tambourine, but I do love percussion and always wanted to play drums, but I stuck with my trumpet.
8) Lava lamps were already popular in England, but they weren't introduced to the United States until 1965. Today, Walmart carries more than 20 different lava lamps. Have you ever owned one? I have never owned a lava lamp. I was a teen in the 60s, but we couldn't afford things like lava lamps. Never really wanted one.

9) Random question: Do you have a recurring dream? I used to have one when I was a teen. It was about going on a picnic with my family. We walked through a field and some woods to a place that was perfect for a picnic. I have no idea what it meant or why I had it, over and over, and remembered it. I rarely remember a dream.
Peace and Hugs!!
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
I loved the Beatles when we were teens and they were still somewhat cute and normal. When they got weird I kind of moved on (by then I was married). But I can still tell you who's singing by their voices. I loved them all. I enjoyed your answers, except I am sorry to hear that your neighbor Paul passed away. He actually held on a long while with the leukemia. My brother Russell died from it in 2019 after less than a 2 year battle. It's a terrible disease. Oh, I always wanted to play drums too. I wanted to be in a "band" like the Beatles when I was a teen and play the drums. LOL. Never happened, obviously. I like your recurring dream. I can't say as I've ever had a recurring dream of the same thing, but I often dream about trying to find a bathroom and they are always "open to the public", with no doors and in a big open place where I can't find any privacy. LOL. Of course, I have that dream mostly when I really "need to go". LOL. TMI? LOL. Oh, I bet you would make a good "Nancy Drew". It's never too late! LOL. I also would've loved to be an architect. I was always drawing house plans/floor plans. Actually one house that we had built I gave the builder my adjustments to his floor plan to change things that I wanted, and he accepted them and built things the way I wanted it. Sadly we only lived in that house a couple of years. But at least it was the way I wanted it! LOL. I hope you have a blessed weeked. My prayers are going up for your friend Anne and her family.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about Paul. My prayers for his wife and children.
ReplyDeleteA thoughtful set of answers this week, and it carries a real sense of gratitude for the people around you, especially those neighbors who stepped in when it mattered most. The childhood dream of that picnic sounds like one of those gentle memories that stays with you for no clear reason, just part of the fabric of growing up. Wishing comfort and peace to Anne and her family in this difficult time.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about Paul and will pray for his family. I know you were such a blessing to Ann through this time.
ReplyDeleteI like your recurring dream. My recurring dream used to be about work - it was afternoon and I hadn't even gotten my morning meds passed yet! That was when work was pretty stressful... thankfully I don't dream that anymore.
I am so sorry to hear about Paul. I will be praying for his family. That is so hard. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

ReplyDeleteFun! I had to listen to remember this song!
ReplyDeleteDear Terri, prayers for Anne and her family.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about Paul. She will be lucky to have you as a help during this time.
ReplyDeleteI know all the Beatle's music, but I did not know that one.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about Paul, he gave it a fight - didn't he?
My car is old too - 25 years.
I am sorry to read about Paul, keeping his family in prayer, Terri.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you are feeling better Terri but so sorry to read about your friend Paul. May he rest in peace now. We have to wear seatbelts here, even in the rear seats.
