Leather and Lace

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, and here are today's questions!

Saturday 9: Leather and Lace (1981)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) As you answer these questions, are you wearing leather, lace, or both?  My sandals are leather.  Everything else is cotton!

2) This song is a duet between members of two superstar groups – Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac and Don Henley of The Eagles. Which band do you listen to more often, Fleetwood Mac or The Eagles?  The Eagles, but I love them both.

3) In this duet, "lace" tells us she is stronger than we know, and "leather" admits that sometimes he's vulnerable. Do either side of this lyrical equation apply to you? Do you think you're either tougher than people realize or more sensitive than they know?  I  think most people know I am stronger than I look.  Old age (and experience) has made me less sensitive than I used to be.

4) Both Stevie and Don are born Westerners. Stevie spent her early childhood in Arizona, and Don was born in Texas and stayed there through college. Today, Stevie has two homes – one in Pacific Palisades and another in Phoenix – while Don has a beautiful home in Dallas. Do you feel rooted where you are? Or can you see yourself moving to another city or state in the future?  I've done enough moving.  Lakeland is my home (for 37 years).  I'm rooted here now.

5) Stevie and Don were romantically involved in the 1970s, but after they broke up, they remained friendly. Not only did they record this song in 1981, but they went on tour together in 2005. Have you recently heard from an ex?  Nope.  It's been a very long time since I had an ex.  Joe was in my life for 38 years (married 36).  (Sure hope to see him again someday!)

6) Stevie admits a lifelong passion for Animal Crackers, those little cookies shaped like tigers, bears, and elephants. Is your go-to snack sweet, like Stevie's, or is it salty?  I probably choose salty over sweet more often, but I have been eating my way through a bag of black jellybeans since the week before Easter.

7) Don likes Velveeta on his burgers. Describe your ideal cheeseburger.  A lean burger, cooked pink but not bloody (medium), with lettuce, tomato, mayo, dill pickle, onion, and melted cheese (any cheese!). Yum.

8) In 1981, when this song was popular, both Maserati and Mercedes-Benz introduced luxury convertibles. Have you ever owned a convertible? Would a convertible be practical for your lifestyle?  In my "other" life, my 1st husband had an Austin-Healey that had a convertible top and a hard top.  It was fun to drive.  That was in Ohio.  Convertibles in Florida are melanoma machines. The sun is just too hot (for me) to ride around with the top down.  That includes sun roofs, by the way.

9) Random question: What are you most looking forward to this week?  I have medical appointments on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  How did that happen?  Just the way the appointments fell and not anything worrisome, though not looking forward to it the way this question was intended.

Hoping this cold is better sooner!!
Peace and Hugs!

Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before.

  5. We just had a week of doctor appointments/tests. Seems like retirement is another word for doctor appointments at random times all the time. I ate one licorice jelly bean. They came in a separate bag all by themselves! I divided them up between the kids in their Easter Baskets. I never heard that song before. After my time of listening to rock music I guess. I've never had a convertible or even a sunroof, and like you said...they really aren't very good for us in Florida. I don't like getting my hair windblown either...lol. I hope you feel better really soon. Take care my friend.

  6. Get well soon, Terri, and muscle through those upcoming doctor appointments. I can't begin to tell you how many weeks we've had like that. At least you can get them all done and over with. Have a wonderful weekend!

  8. I had never heard of that song - but you are a strong woman. Sorry about your cold. My hubs loves black licorice. I had a week of doctor appointments too. Get well.

  10. Oh, I loved that song! Circumstances have compelled me to be stronger than I feel; maybe that's a good thing. Back in the 80's my former hubby bought a pretty LeBaron convertible -- turned out to be a lemon. The convertible look does nothing for my hair, lol.

  12. My dad is a big fan of the Eagles, I remember hearing him playing their songs lots. That burger sounds good, but no cheese for me, bring on the pickles though!
I hope you are feeling better now after your cold.

  14. Glad your upcoming appointments are for anything serious. I find the older I get the more 'routine' appointments there are! :)
For #2 I would have answered exactly like you did.
For #4 We've been in our home for 25 years this month. In Washington State for 37. We are rooted here, but are praying about moving to Pennsylvania in a few years. It looks like all of our kids and grandkids will be living there soon.
