March 28th: The Saturday 9

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  You can click HERE to join the fun!

Indian Lake

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions; however, here are today's questions!

Saturday 9: Indian Lake (1968)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, a family gets on a bus and heads off on vacation. Think about the last trip you took. Did you travel by car, bus, train, boat, or plane?  I traveled by car with my son, Joey, in September when we went to Ohio.

2) Once they get to Indian Lake, they swim, have a picnic, and go canoeing. Are you looking forward to any of these activities this summer?  Nope.  Summer in Florida finds me inside with the AC on!!

3) "Indian Lake" became familiar to TV audiences because it was used in commercials for the Dodge Charger. In the 1960s, most households didn't have remote controls to mute or skip commercials. Today, we do. When a commercial comes on, do you watch, turn down the sound, or, if possible, fast-forward past it?  I stream much of what I watch on TV, so I don't have to be bothered with commercials.  On the rare occasions when one does come on, I just ignore it, or take the opportunity to go to the bathroom or to the kitchen for a snack or a water.

4) The Cowsills were a family singing group who had four Top 10 hits between 1967 and 1969. The brothers were self-taught musicians who enjoyed playing at church and school events. When their father, Bud Cowsill, became their manager, he insisted his wife Barbara and their youngest, Susan, join the band. He wanted the Cowsills to become "a latter-day Von Trapp family." Without looking it up, do you know who the Von Trapps were?  Of course - from The Sound of Music.

5) The Cowsills were the inspiration for the sitcom The Partridge Family. It ran for four seasons, and the fictional Partridges had three Top 10 hits, were nominated for a Grammy, and made David Cassidy a star. Are you familiar with The Partridge Family?  Yes, indeed!  I watched it every week.

6) The Cowsills starred in an advertising campaign for the American Dairy Association. On TV and in magazine ads, they proclaimed that "Milk is the lift that lasts." Decades later, the oldest brother, Bill, recalled that he seldom drank milk. How about you? Do you often drink milk?  I like milk, but rarely drink a glass of it.  Weird as it may sound, I always want a glass of milk when I eat chili.  Probably a holdover thing from my childhood.

7) While Bud Cowsill engineered the family band's success, he also contributed to their demise. The Cowsills were scheduled to appear 10 times on the influential Ed Sullivan Show, but were fired after the second because Bud was too confrontational backstage. He also had a reputation for being abrasive with record company executives and concert promoters, and this affected the band's ability to find work. Do you have a hard time biting your tongue or controlling your temper?  I probably should bite my tongue more often than I do, but it's not usually anger that makes me spout things.  I don't get angry often, but I do have a hard head about things, and am an old lady set in her ways.

8) In 1968, when this song was popular, Leonard Bernstein released his award-winning recording of Mahler: Symphony No. 8. Do you enjoy classical music?  Not especially.  I appreciate the talented musicians, but it does make me fidget after a while.

9) Random question – Here we are in March. If you made any New Year's resolutions, have you kept them?  I don't make resolutions, so there are none to keep!! :)

I couldn't make the pink background go away this week!  Did anyone else have trouble with it?  I even deleted it twice, but it just wants to be pink, I guess.

My friend, Gregory, did get to go home from the hospital yesterday.  He picked up Colby around 6:00 pm.  Colby was quite happy to see him and didn't even look back at me!  I let the cats out and told them the big bad doggie went home.  Casper came running out and had to look in every room.  Vinny stayed in the craft room until I went to get him.  He was on my lap three times, purring loudly.  Life is back to normal for all three of us!!  Gregory was happy that nothing bad was found to explain his problems, but they didn't find a reason either.  He looked good and was headed home for a shower.  Praise God, it isn't bad.

I have cleaning to do today and meal prep for my guests coming at 5:00 p.m.  Happy weekend, all!!

Peace and Hugs!

Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.

  1. Good morning, I had originally planned to do this meme, and I couldn't get the pink background to go away...so I went with whatever...sigh. Thanks, Terri, for the smiles. Have a beautiful day.

  2. I'm happy to hear that Gregory is back home, and hoping he feels better.
I don't think I ever heard of the Cowsills. I do know the VonTrapps and the Partridges.
Somehow, I don't think you have an anger or a tongue issue. If you say something, I bet it's said nicely and with good reason!

  3. Oh, I'll bet Gregory's happy to wake up in his own bed this morning. Not to mention Colby! Casper and Vinny are so funny!
I don't recall watching much of the Patridge family, but for some reason I adored the Cowsills. Classical music? That's a hard "no" for me ... probably reminds me of the years I was made to play violin in the high school orchestra. (lol)
I hope your evening is great fun!

  4. I was raised with mostly classical music (and folk), so I do have an affinity for it, although I don't listen much to it anymore. I do recall that song by the Cowsills and love milk with my peanut butter sandwiches. Glad Gregory was able to pick up Colby. I know your cats are rejoicing! Enjoy your day, Terri!

  7. I might have heard of the Cowsills, but I don't think, well I know I didn't listen to them.
I can get a bit set in my ways too. I do now the Sound of Music and the Partridge Family.

  8. Dear Terri, I am so glad Gregory is back home. I hope he feels better. I had forgotten about the Cowsills! I did like the Patridge Family, I found it was one of those rare shows that are family friendly, if you get what I mean! I also loved The Waltons.

  10. I had to go back and listen to "Indian Lake" I remember the song, but not much about the Cowsills. I did watch the Partridge Family somewhat and the Brady Bunch...but I was almost grown up by then. LOL. John likes to listen to classical music, i.e., Mozart especially and some others. I listen if it's on, but I don't seek it out...except for Handel's Messiah. That one I have to listen to every year. I'm glad Gregory is okay and back home, and that your little home is back in order. I hope you are having a delightful time with your friends tonight. We have a pot luck dinner after church tomorrow, so I will be making a meatloaf in the morning before church. Gotta go for now. Blackie sends his love to Casper and Vinnie. (and you!).

  11. I like the sound of those summer activities but I am more of an indoor person too.
I don't often drink milk unless it's in other drinks. My eldest drinks so much at least 2 big glasses a day.
That is good news that Gregory is home from hospital. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
