It's been a good weekend as we remember those who gave their lives for our freedom. Humble before their ultimate sacrifice and also the sacrifices their families endure/d.
I mentioned last week that Cheryl's (Sunlit Pathway) son and his family were coming for dinner on Friday evening. It was a very fun evening and they seemed to enjoy the baked ziti and meatballs I served, along with garlic bead, tossed salad, and we had ice cream for dessert. Justin and Angie have six kids, including two sets of twins. The three oldest girls went on a mission trip to Mexico and were excited about their experiences. The kids are interesting and lots of fun. They came around 5:00 and didn't go home until after 10:00. The house was full of conversation and laughter. Here they are...
Saturday was just a catch-up day. I went to Publix for another prescription and a few more BOGOs and worked on a couple of projects. On Sunday, I went to church and then I stopped at Lakeside Village for a craft fair where the woman who made my mom's green tomato relish had some ready for me!! I did open one of the two jars I bought from her. It is good and turned out better than when I tried to make it, but I don't think it will ever taste like my mom's. She just had "the touch" and I know you know what I mean by that.
Today I am going to Mas Verde's Memorial Day potluck. I'm making Jiffy Corn casserole. It will be a nice time and the food is always good. We have some good cooks here in our community! They always set an empty table for our brave men and women who gave their lives in service to this great country. They will be remembered in the prayer before we eat.
Peace and Hugs!
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat:
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.

"Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, Hallelujah! His truth is marching on!" Oh, my, what a beautiful family! I can just imagine all of the laughter and fun you had with them at your home! That is so sweet that they have adopted you and vice versa! That is a really sweet blessing! I hope you have a nice time at your church pot luck today. OUr church is having a picnic, but it is outside at noon and hubby just really isn't up to crowds and staying out in the heat, even to eat all that good food. So I think we will have to miss it this year. But we had a good time with our kids here yesterday, and had all the good picnic food, and thankfully we were able to eat inside in the AC. LOL. Yes, it is a somber day in many ways, but also a day of thanksgiving for those who gave their all for our nation. My thoughts and prayers are with their families who have also made a huge sacrifice. May God bless America!
ReplyDeleteWe have friends coming over, however, with that said, I am staying in. Wishing you a lovely day, Terri. smiles
ReplyDeleteIt sounded like your Friday evening was a wonderful time along with the rest of the weekend, Terri. Hope the potluck goes well today! It is going to be a quiet one here.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got to have that fun evening on Friday and I know Cheryl is too.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your potluck today!
You stay so busy. That's wonderful. We're working around here today like usual. Hope your Memorial Day is relaxing and the potluck is memorable. 🇺🇸
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great visit! Have a good day today!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful family! It looks like you all had a great time. I love that your community has a Memorial Day potluck, and that an empty table is put out for those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. God bless them and you, Terri!
ReplyDeleteAw, Cheryl's family look so nice. How refreshing to witness how they genuinely LIKE one another ... and you, too!
ReplyDeleteYesterday's rainy weather -- not to mention the Indy 500 -- interfered with our grilling plans yesterday, but Tom's about to start a fire ... yum. I hope your pot luck with friends is really enJOY-able.
You had a nice crew there. I can't tell the twins tho. How nice of you to have them.
ReplyDeleteAnd Mas Verde sounds wonderful!
Looks like a great time! Happy Memorial Day.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the Green Tomato Relish, I am reminded of the song by Carly Simon, "Nobody Does It Better" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaV-6qerkqI), which does not really apply here, but the title sometimes comes to my mind when comparing how different people do things. For certain, nobody can make things quite like our mothers did.
ReplyDeleteTwo sets of twins in one family. Wow. I'm glad you had such a good visit.
Two sets of twins, WoW. I remember when our twin grands were babies, we were busy, busy. My mom was like that with her cooking, she just had the right touch. I've tried to make certain things exactly as she taught me, but alas, it never taste as good. Hope your day has been happy and blessed.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had lots of fun at the neighborhood picnic!!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I bet they had a blast visiting with you!! Your meal sounds delicious! I am glad you had a nice weekend, my friend!
