Too Shy
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Too Shy (1983)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
5) Though fame was fleeting here, Kajagoogoo remained popular in England. Lead singer Limahl recalls the adulation as "overwhelming," and he was shocked when he stepped on stage in Cornwall to see row after row of fans wearing their hair like he did. Have you ever handed a photo to a stylist and said, "Make my hair look like this?" Yes, and it's still on my phone and none have really accomplished it for me. Of course, the color is wrong, the age is wrong, and my hair isn't quite that curly. I can dream...

1) This song laments vulnerability and self-consciousness in social settings. Are you often "too shy?" Or are social gatherings easy for you? I am okay if I know at least some of the people. I do a lot better now than when I was younger. Probably because I'm old, retired, and don't really care about making a "good impression". LOL
2) In the lyrics, a girl self-censors, telling herself, "hush hush." Have you more recently shushed someone, or were you shushed? I can't remember hushing or being hushed in a very long time. See my answer above.
3) Band member Nick Beggs recalls that they called themselves Kajagoogoo because it sounded like something that would make a baby laugh. It is fun to say. Can you think of another word that you just enjoy saying? How about cacophony! (kuh kaa fuh nee)
4) This was the only US hit for the British band, earning Kajagoogoo the title "One Hit Wonder." Can you think of another artist or band who had one really popular song and then just kind of disappeared? The Safaris did Wipe Out, and I loved that song!! That was in the 60's, by the way! The percussion is amazing!!

6) In 1983, when this song was popular, the Lotus 1-2-3 program made it easier for PC users to make spreadsheets. Are you answering these questions on a Mac or PC? Laptop, phone or tablet? My laptop. I don't have a PC anymore and can't type this much on my phone. I do, however, remember Lotus 1-2-3 and was proficient in it before Excel came along. Those were certainly the early days!
7) 1983 saw Abbey Road Studios open their doors for the first time for public tours. During the first two months, 22,000 tickets were sold to fans who wanted to see where the Beatles made their magic. What's the last ticket you purchased? Does an airline ticket count? Then yesterday!!
8) Also in 1983, McDonald's introduced Chicken McNuggets. When was chicken most recently on the menu at your home? How was it prepared? It has been a few months. I keep rotisserie chicken frozen for use in casseroles, though, and a favorite is with broccoli and rice.
9) Random question: Have you ever forgotten where you left your car in a parking lot? Yes, and more than once. I am much more attentive about that now and appreciate when parking lots have numbers or letters marking the rows. Thank you, Publix!
Peace and Hugs!
AI wrote a poem for me...
In the city’s bustling symphony,
A cacophony of sounds runs free,
Honking cars and chattering feet,
A wild embrace of noise and heat.
Amidst the chaos, life sings loud—
A noisy, vibrant, bustling crowd.

Wow, I love the poem written by AI just for you! That's pretty cool! And I also love that photo of you, and I'd say your hair looks a lot like the picture of the one you wanted. You have a very nice hairstyle, and it becomes your face and wonderful smile! Oh, I do remember the song "Wipe Out" ! That was one of my favorites back in the day! That was back in the days when I actually tried to learn to surf, and I wiped out every time, so my surfing days did not last long! LOL. And yes, forgetting where our car is parked happens a lot. So we usually always try to park in the same general area when we go to Walmart, which is the one place we have "lost" our car the most...if we don't park it in the same row it's a sad scene to watch us searching for it. LOL. I hope you have a lovely day. It's been raining here during the night, and so I am happy we don't have any special outdoor plans for today.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of you at the end - great shot!! I remember the song "Wipe Out" and I may have it stuck in my head all day now. I made BBQ chicken in the crockpot last Monday and took it to work for my lunches last week. I "sort of" lost my car yesterday. I made myself aware of the surroundings and said "there are two trees." I remembered that when I headed to the parking lot 9 hours later but had to wander around a minute to find it!
ReplyDeleteI like your hair.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's the end of May already. I envy you with curly hair, Terri, smiles. Oh, and I take a photo of the parking lot number, that way I don't get lost. Hey, whatever works, LOL.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had some curl in my hair!
ReplyDeleteI've lost my car before too. I feel like they make them all look the same now!
I love ❤️ this photo of you. The poem is such a sweet gesture.
ReplyDeleteI was very shy in my early years but was able to overcome it as I became active in church and taught classes, Bible studies and even the teens Sunday School which was a challenge! lol The pic you end with really reflects an inner joy!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and thoughtful Saturday 9 post! I really enjoyed your answers—especially your honesty about being more confident in social situations now. That “don’t care about making a good impression” stage is oddly empowering, right? And yes, cacophony is such a satisfying word to say!
ReplyDeleteAlso, loved the nostalgic nod to Lotus 1-2-3—what a blast from the past. Oh, and forgetting where you parked? Been there! I'm also thankful for row markers now. Thanks for sharing this, and your little poem at the end was such a lovely touch!
That's a great photo of you, Terri! Yes, I remember Wipe Out and loved the percussion, too. Now you have that going through my head - LOL! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love this happy picture of you, Terri! I used to be really shy, but working in both television and hospitality I learned real quick-like to "act as if." Just the mention of Wipe Out and the little record player in my head is spinning! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteRegarding “sip’n smiles,” as Gary refers to social gatherings, I manage to hold my own pretty well. It’s a survival skill I must have learned from my childhood of moving many times.
ReplyDeleteCacophony — that reminds me that I know of some people who named their granddaughter “Calliope” (a musical instrument).
How many times have I handed a stylist a picture of my desired haircut? And the result? Often not what I wanted.
As for #9: I forgot where my car was in the parking lot at least twice after my husband died and that put me into a terrible panic.
LOVE the photo of you at the end. You have the most beautiful smile (and hair!!).
My car is 25 years old with a Mickey Mouse on top of the antenna - never lose it. LOL
ReplyDeleteI have Wipe Out on an old tape and still like the song! I like the picture of you!
