Crazy Sam brings us another Saturday 9. Thanks to Sam, and you can join in HERE!
Can't We Talk It Over
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
4) The lyrics were written by Ned Washington, who is perhaps best remembered for "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Disney's Pinocchio. Do you believe, like Jiminy Cricket, that dreams come true? Yes, I think some dreams can certainly come true, but not from wishing on a star (sorry). God is in control.
Saturday 9: Can't We Talk It Over (1950)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) In this song, The Andrews Sisters plead for verbal communication. Is there someone you'd like to engage in a heart-to-heart conversation? I try to speak from my heart in all of my relationships, but it is more difficult with some people. I'm just done with drama in my life, so there are a few folks I am careful around.
2) They want to sit together for this talk. Think about the most recent personal conversation you had. Was it in person, over the phone, or via Zoom? In person. I've had a lot of company these past couple of months.
3) This week's tune was written by Victor Young. He was prolific, earning 22 Oscar nominations in 18 years. (His one win came after his sudden death at age 57.) Think about your friends and family. Who is the most active, productive person you know? A woman here in my community named Donna is busy with activities all the time. Blogging friend, Jean is an energizer bunny! Several of my blogging friends are energizer bunnies running rings around me!!

5) This week's song is performed by The Andrews Sisters -- LaVerne, Maxine, and Patty. Do you have siblings? If yes, are you the oldest, the middle child, or the baby? Yes, I have siblings. I am the oldest of four, and many of those "firstborn" traits can be found in me.
6) With more than 80 million records sold, the Andrews Sisters remain one of the most successful female vocal groups of all time. Name another girl group. The Lennon Sisters!! I grew up watching the Lawrence Welk Show and always loved the Lennon Sisters!
7) In 1950, the year "Can't We Talk It Over" was released, we were introduced to the Peanuts comic strip. Without looking it up, do you know who created Peanuts? Charles Schultz is doing it today, so hopefully he created it.
8) In 1950, most suitcases were hard-sided rectangles, with no wheels and a small handle at the top. They came in colors like tan, copper, green, and blue. What does your luggage look like? I have soft-sided luggage from Samsonite. It is medium blue. We bought good luggage for our trip to Italy back in 2007. I have three pieces and gave my sister, Tammy, Joe's two pieces.
9) Random question: Who was the last person to phone you? Did you pick up, or did it go to voicemail? I had to look. It was Sheri, the woman who did my painting these past few days.

Peace and Hugs!
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

I also have great luggage, really no need for it now...because I also have some Vera Bradley --anyways, it's all good. I hope you have a beautiful weekend my friend. smiles
ReplyDelete#1...I so agree. I have a t-shirt with a crazy looking chicken on it that says "You smell like drama and a headache. Please go away from me." I love my job and most of my coworkers, but I have learned to watch everything I say because some days it feels like they all thrive on drama. It was fun reading your answers today. It's supposed to be 77 here today and my grandson is already here visiting me. I hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun listening to those old songs.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, avoiding drama when I can. Who needs that?
I'm also the oldest of 4 and have those same tendencies. :)
Enjoy your weekend!
I loved the Lennon Sisters, too, and used to watch the Lawrence Welk show with my grandparents who were both fans of the show. I'm the oldest, too, and I do fit the mold of that one. Have you ever read any of the birth-order books by Kevin Leman? He was on Fox & Friends this morning and is an expert in the field. Blessings, Terri!
ReplyDeleteYes, I have read one or two books on birth order, but I don't remember the author.
DeleteMy family (grown children spread far and wide) is very close and talk very heart to heart with each other. I also am blessed with two friends who also share this kind of relationship with me. The song made me cry.....oldest son's wife has moved out to find herself after 18 yrs of marriage!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your son's marriage troubles. That's hard.
DeleteAw, I loved this clip of the Lennons! I remember poring over Photoplay magazine and the like when one or another girls' marriages would be featured.
ReplyDeleteThe zipper's broken on my largest piece of luggage -- a forest green embroidered look -- but because the set belonged to my mother, I'll not be getting rid of them anytime soon. I'm using it for storage now, but hope to fill it with travel necessities someday!
Maybe a shoe repair place could replace the zipper? Sad to lose the use of your largest piece (and how sweet that it was your mom's!).
DeleteThe Peanuts strips you’re seeing are reruns. Schultz retired years ago, and then he passed away. When he retired the first run episodes of the comic strip stopped, because Schultz didn’t want anyone else to draw Peanuts
ReplyDeleteThanks!! How interesting that we are seeing reruns. Still relevant today!
DeleteThe Lawrence Welk show was "required programming" every Saturday night, but even though we pretended we didn't want to watch it, I always enjoyed the Lennon Sisters and others too. I've always loved Peanuts comics. They are as old as I am! No wonder I love them....I grew up with them! Yes, I try to avoid all the drama these days. Life is dramatic enough without people complicating it! LOL. The luggage we are using nowadays is actually a couple of large gym type bags with wheels on one end. I pack one for each of us plus a "ditty bag" for our "toiletries". We don't do much traveling anymore so no real need for the good stuff. We have some, but just don't use it unless we are flying.
ReplyDeleteLoved the video of the Lennon Sisters. I used to live in the same town as them during my growing up years in Southern California and they made a huge impression on my ability to harmonize.
ReplyDeleteAs for drama/chaos/playing games with personalities -- yes, I'm done with all of that.
