Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 593

From this Side of the Pond

1. March 15th is known as The Ides of March, the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C... have you ever been to Rome?  If so, what did you love most about the city? If not, is this a place you'd like to visit?  Yes, I have been to Rome and stood above the ruins of the place where Caesar was stabbed (so we were told).  This is the photo I took of that spot (but I was also excited to see some of the feral cats that live in the ruins).

What I loved most about Rome was being there with Joe.  He was a first-generation American and was so excited to be in Italy.  While there, we also got to visit with his first cousin and family who still live there.  They are the only "immediate" family members who didn't come to America.  It was wonderful!!

Joe with his cousin Pepino and his wife, Lydia.  They made Joe sit down because he was so much taller than them...

Trevi Fountain was fun...

2. 'Rome wasn't built in a day.' What project/activity/improvement (of any kind) do you have going on right now to which this saying might be applied?  Well, my floors got done, but I'm still waiting to get the painting done.  Y'all are probably tired of me writing about my "projects".

3. Let's do a little this or that with some Italian foods...

  • Caprese salad or Prosciutto with melon?  Both, please!
  • Bruschetta or Antipasto?  Yes, please!
  • lasagne or ravioli?  I love both, but raviolis are easier to do.
  • bolognese or Carbonara?  Okay!!
  • Risotto or gnocchi?   I like both, but don't make my own gnocchi.
  • tiramisu~gelato~cannoli?  Not crazy for tiramisu but won't turn it down.  Gelato is amazing. Don't forget the cannoli!!

4. Of the colors red, white, and green, which would I find most prevalent in your home?  Probably white, at least until I get my all white kitchen painted with London Fog gray.  Which one do you think is most flattering to you in terms of your wardrobe?  I think I look good in reds and greens.  Have you ever had your colors done? Is that something you'd be interested in doing?   Years ago, I had the Mary Kay lady do my colors, and I was a "fall".  That has changed (in my mind), and I think I am more like a "summer" now.  I look okay in white and black and jewel tones.  More "cool" than "warm" now.

5. Life would be boring without?   Ice cream!!

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I am blessed, I think, because I am rarely, if ever, bored.  There is always something to do, or someone to talk with, or a good movie to watch, or a book to read, or a favorite TV show to watch... Maybe I am just easily entertained.

Peace and Hugs!

For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth and friends above,
For all gentle thoughts and mild.
Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise.

  1. "Come ye thankful people come!" Love that hymn! Loved seeing the pictures of Rome, and especially how happy Joe was to be there and meeting his cousins too! Did they speak any English? You love all that Italian food, and I hardly even know what most of it is, let alone how to cook it! I can make lasagna and spaghetti, and that's it. LOL. This was a fun post. See you soon!!!

    1. Pam, they did not speak English and we only had our translation book to use. Joe understood a little Italian but not conversational. We were at their house for about five hours and looked at photo albums and gestured a lot. Mostly smiles and laughter at trying to figure it all out. Pepino did place a phone call to America so we could talk to Aunt Lucy. She speaks Italian so translated a lot for 30 minutes or so... mainly how happy we were to meet and Pepino wanted to know if we liked them. Of course!! Etc., etc. It was a great experience!! We missed going to Pompei with the tour group that day, but I don't regret missing it at all.

I know that trip to Italy was a favorite and you have wonderful memories of it. I love the photo of Joe with his relatives.
The Italian food is making me hungry. :)
If you are easily entertained it's a blessing! I think it's just that you are well loved with lots of people around you!

  4. Easily entertained, nah .... I love how you love doing Life!
I've been to Rome a few times, but was really put off by the gypsy women and overt pickpockets. Did you and Joe witness any of that? How much nicer you were able to spend time with relatives!
Now it's not even noon and I'm craving some gelato!

    1. Myra, we didn't notice pick-pockets in Rome but were warned about it when visiting some of the other places, especially San Gimignano. The children are trained to do the stealing. So sad.

  8. I just love reading about your trip to Italy!!

I like Italian food, but it's not my favorite. I'd rather have Mexican.

I had my colors analyzed one time back in the 80's. I was a winter. No pastels. They wash me out.
