Great Architecture
Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4. She would be delighted you are here to join in and so am I.
The photo to the right is the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, New Jersey. It is the largest cathedral outside Europe. Not only is it beautiful inside and out but has a magnificent pipe organ Its cornerstone was laid in 1899.
As buildings go she is a masterpiece of great workmanship.
1. What are some beautiful buildings in your neck of the woods? There are beautiful homes in a couple of the more affluent areas in Lakeland but no castles or ancient masterpieces. We have The Lake Morton Historic District, with lovely 1920s Craftsman-style homes.
And, we have THE largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright-designed buildings in one place - Florida Southern College. The man himself was here directing the builds back in the 30s. Check out this LINK for photos and more information. I always include the campus when touring visitors...
Me, Frank, and Myra (Mevely - Respice, Prospice)
Barbara (My Journal Memories) in the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel
2. What buildings of renown have you experienced or would like to experience? The Louvre? Maybe Versailles? Things closer to home perhaps? I got my fill in Italy and can bask in the memories for the rest of my life.
3. What do you think of the current trends in modern buildings? I prefer older buildings but some modern structures can be breathtaking. This is Lakeland's Florida Polytechnic University, designed by Santiago Calatrava.
4. If you could choose any style of home you would like, what would it be? Victorian, Farm House, Craftsmen, Ranch, Georgian, Tudor, Cape Cod? Farmhouse, Craftsman, Ranch, or Cape Cod. Victorian, Georgian, and Tudor are a bit too foo-foo for my taste, though certainly lovely. I prefer more simple designs.

Give me a Florida double-wide! :)
ReplyDeleteMy home, sweet home!! Bunk... there are some for sale here!! :)
DeleteGreat answers! I've always wanted to visit Florida Southern College and see the Frank LLoyd Wright buildings. Maybe someday I will get to do that and visit YOU too for the BEST part of the tour!! I love your answers. I haven't done this post yet, so will have to think about my answers before doing it! Have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that about the campus designed by Frank Lloyd Wright - that is so cool!! There are definitely some gorgeous buildings in Italy!! I enjoyed your answers!
ReplyDeleteMemories of the day spent with you at Florida Southern still make me smile. I used to think my 'dream home' was an A-Frame nestled in the Rockies, but I'm just grateful for what I've got here in Central Alabama's slow lane.
ReplyDeleteThat cathedral is so beautiful! I like old buildings more than new, they have character!
ReplyDeleteWe have a Frank Lloyd Wright home in Grand Rapids that we went through.
I like farmhouse style because everything isn't shiny and new, it pulls in the old!
I haven't heard the Jacobs ladder song for so long!
I enjoyed your answers today!! Onward Christian Soldiers♥
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of you with Myra and Barbara, Terri! When it comes to homes, I love the rustic, cedar-sided one we live in. It looks like it belongs just where it is - in the woods.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
That's cool that you and Myra have met. Hers is another blog I always enjoy.
ReplyDeleteOur house now is Ranch. If we ever want to build another I'm going with Farmhouse with big porches all around. I do love that casual style.
Blessings! 💙
This was fun and educational, my friend! I prefer cozy to ornate. That's just me! Have a cozy evening!
ReplyDeleteOh my! You put me in this blog post! What a surprise! It seems ages ago when that visit took place, and so much has happened in our lives (yours and mine) since then! It was a wonderful visit and you really did show us around, a lot, and we enjoyed it thoroughly. You live in a beautiful city.
ReplyDeleteAs for what style of home is my favorite, I like lots of styles, but my favorite would have to depend on my stage of life (stairs or not), and the amount of upkeep necessary (painted siding or brick, etc).
