The Wednesday Hodgepodge ...

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 562

From this Side of the Pond

1. What is a childhood habit or preference you will never outgrow?  Childhood was a very long time ago.  I don't suck my thumb anymore but I do still love cheese, cheese on pasta, cheese on broccoli, cheese on cauliflower, grilled cheese, crackers and cheese, and cheeseburgers...  My granny always had a brick of cheddar in her fridge when I visited and there was always cheese at home.  Then I married an Italian and learned about ricotta, mozzarella, provolone...

2. Did you know July is beans month?  I did not know that.  What's your favorite bean?  I love beans and a favorite would have to be a toss-up between black beans and kidney beans.  Your favorite recipe that calls for beans?  I don't use a recipe for chili, ham and navy beans, or yellow rice with chicken and black beans, but those are my favorites.  When it comes to chili are you team beans or team no beans?   Definitely pro-beans!

3. Some historical figures have a tagline after their name, something like 'the brave' or 'the wise' or 'the mad'...what would your tagline be?  The Tired; The Plump; The Lazy...  Explain why?  No need to explain (giggle).

4. The way to my heart is laughter and love

5.  The calendar rolls into August this week, but before we go give us four adjectives that describe your July.  Hot. Humid. Blessed. Long.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I've been airline shopping for my trip to Ohio in September. There are no straight-through flights anymore.  Granted, this is the first time I will have flown since before covid but every flight/airline includes a layover in (get this) Miami, Atlanta, New York.   Atlanta I understand, but Miami or New York?  Look at a map!!  Good grief!  Reminds me why I hate flying.   I even looked into Amtrak but trains don't get closer than 4 hours to my Ohio destination.  The worst thing done in this country was tearing up railroad tracks. Rant over. Sigh. It's a hard two-day drive by myself and I'm too old for that now.

Peace and Hugs!

… Up, up and away in
My beautiful, my beautiful balloon
The world's a nicer place in my beautiful balloon
It wears a nicer face in my beautiful balloon
We can sing a song and sail along the silver sky
For we can fly, we can fly

  1. For traveling, there is an Amtrak feature where one can take their own vehicle. Even if it's 4 hours away. Maybe that would work? I'm told if one travels this way to be sure and book a berth even if it's not an overnight. Anyway, I hope a good solution can be found soon for the trip.
August in the South can be so hot, humid and long. I do hope the temperatures aren't too bad this year.
    Have a great day! 💙

    1. Yes... I have to drive to Sanford (3 hours) and the train trip takes right at 20 hours, then I would have to drive another 8 hours to my sisters. Make me tired just thinking about it. Might as well drive all the way. Sigh.

Flights are crazy. I was looking at some and mine had crazy layovers too - from MI to S Carolina... Hope you find a good plan!

  3. I don't know where you are flying out from, but my daughter had a non-stop flight both ways on Allegiant from St Pete-Clearwater to Dayton a couple weeks ago. Hope this may help. Your taglines made me laugh! Have a great day!

  5. We are flying to Minnesota later this year for a wedding, and the connection options from SC included Newark and Dallas. Crazy! We finally found one through Charlotte but it's about 3 hours in the airport. I don't run through airports anymore so 3 hours it is. Love your taglines! I think most of us can relate to at least one of those. Have a great day Terri!

  6. Raising my hand ... mo' cheese, please! Your response to #4 is perfect!
I'd love to book passage on a train again someday, but flying is off the table. I understand the 'why', but loathe all the hoops and hiccups you're experiencing. Oooh, to be rich and book a private jet........

  7. Wow, no direct flights to Ohio? How crazy is that??? I hope you can work something out. Maybe a friend can drive with you...do you know anyone who would love to go to Ohio? But I know that would add more days to your trip. Oh, I love cheese. I put shredded colby/jack on my salad every day ( or almost every day that I eat it). I use it for so many things. I remember as a child we used to stop at a little grocery store and pick up a block of longhorn cheese, and I would have a chunk before we got home. And yes, what is chili without the beans? I thought that's what made it "chili"!! Have a lovely rest of your week.
