A Patriotic Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Joyce is our Hostess!!  Thank you, Joyce, for today's questions!  Join in HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 558

From this Side of the Pond

1. It's a big week in the US of A as we celebrate Independence Day. Do you have any special plans?  Yes!  I took the day off!  How will you mark the day? BBQ? pool-lake-beach time? fireworks? homemade ice cream? If you're not an American you can tell us what's happening in your corner of the world on Thursday.  My community is having a cookout with all the trimmings.  The pool is open (all year, of course) and they have Cornhole and other games planned.  I'm going to eat and to catch up with friends and neighbors.  No games for me, though.  I rarely get to participate in activities here because they are usually when I am working.  I'm looking forward to this!

2. What's your favorite 'All-American' dessert?  I will eat apple pie but it is not my first or 10th choice.  What else is considered All-American?  Cherry pie is my favorite fruit pie.

3. Does that patriotic feeling come easily to you, or are you having to work for it more these days? What's something that makes you proud to be a citizen of your country?  I call myself a Patriot.  I am a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) with one patriot line proven and four more to be proved.  I am proud of my American ancestry.  My American family lines stretch back many generations, some into the 1600s.  I am an American with Scottish, Scandinavian, and British ties.

4. Your favorite 'patriotic' movie? Favorite patriotic song?  The two movies I always watch are 'The Patriot" and "Independence Day".  Songs include 'Proud to Be an American', 'God Bless America', 'Star Spangled Banner', and 'America The Beautiful'... they all give me goosebumps.

5. One simple pleasure on your July 'bucket list'?  I've got nothing.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I am thankful for the blogging relationships formed here.  Even though most of us haven't met in person, there is still genuine friendship and caring here.  Thank you to my readers and thank you to those who leave comments (even when my offering is boring or repetitive!)!

Happy Independence Day!!

America, the beautiful!!

  1. DAR invited me to join too but I never did. I'm too skint to spend the money. It's nice knowing what my lineage is now. I'm a direct descendant of Confederate Veterans from the War of Northern Aggression and the Revolutionary War. I'm mostly Scottish-Irish with one in the wood pile.
Your neighborhood sounds so nice. I hope y'all have a wonderful time. Our plans are to stay inside and be cool.
    Happy 4th! 💙

    1. Pamela, I joined long enough to get my official DAR number. Haven't been a member of a local chapter for many years. It is expensive.

  2. I like rhubarb or lemon meringue pie. Bob's favorite is cherry too.
We have my sister and BIL coming over.
I am thankful for blogging friends too. You may live far away, but you sure are a blessing to me!

  3. I am thankful that you are one of my actual known face to face blogging friends! Actually, you are the FIRST blogging friend I met face to face, thanks to you and Joe stopping by to visit us so many years ago! Oh, when I did my ancestry research regarding my paternal grandmother who was adopted, I found out that I am also a daughter of the Revolution, but have no desire to join any groups. It was just nice to know of that connection! There are also Civil War ancestors as well (northern). I also have Scottish/English ties, and German and some Dutch. I was surprised that my Irish roots are much smaller than expected! But we all go back to Adam and Eve eventually, and are a part of the great big family of God! What could be better than that? I'm happy for you to have the weekend off and that you will be with neighborhood friends having a good time! We will be sitting here watching TV and continuing to recuperate, but so thankful to be so much better than we were. God is good! All the Time, God is good! Happy Independence Day!

  4. I enjoy reading about the ins and outs of ordinary life. There's something comforting about knowing we're going about our days, the good and the bad, the ups and the downs, in community. Have a great time at your neighborhood party!

  5. When I talk about all of you to my husband, he just looks perplexed like "how are you friends with people you've never met?" I love reading about your daily life and your friends and fun neighborhood events!! Hope you have a great day tomorrow!

  6. Jeff was watching Independence Day last evening. I hope you have a wonderful 4th. I am heading out for vacation time with my little family for the 4th today, so it will be quiet from me for a week. Take care:)

  8. Count me Super Grateful to have been able to spend in-person time with you. (And I'm not done!)
That's pretty neat about being a member of the DAR. My own lineage -- from Norway and Germany - pales in comparison.
I hope your 4th is great fun ... and the cats let you sleep in!

  9. Sorry I never got to meet you in my waning days of Florida living, but I have enjoyed following your adventures and happenings through the years.
DAR here.. and ancestry... seems to be able to get back to about 1620 but not any further. I figure much of it are church records that were kept...but waiting for the 1500....

  11. The blogging friendships are wonderful...even though I'm not blogging as much. You all cross my mind every day and I wonder how things are going with everyone when I'm not around. I'm glad you took the day off to catch up with neighbors and friends. Relax and enjoy. You deserve it!
