It is strawberry season here in central Florida!! After work today, I am trekking over to Fancy Farms for some fresh strawberries to serve to my small church group tomorrow evening. I will make the Bisquick Velvet Crumb Cake as the "shortcake" for the berries and that will be our dessert. I'm making a chicken and rice casserole for the main dish.
Backing up to Friday, after work I had lunch with Shirley at Glory Days. That is always a sweet visit with my dear friend. When I left there, I went to Publix to get my RSV vaccination and picked up some BOGO deals while there. I'm planning to get my first shingles shot on Friday of this week. I was told to not get the two shots together so took that advice.
My weekend wasn't anything to write about. I did some sorting and some cleaning. I had Kroger deliver some groceries on Saturday morning. I joined Kroger's Boost and get free delivery, gasoline points and other deals here and there. I enjoy getting the groceries delivered. Publix will always have my business as well, but Kroger saves me some money and I pay more attention to what I buy online. It's very easy to wander the aisles at Publix and pick up things I think I need... you know how that works, I'm sure.
Sunday school and church were good, as always. I got home and did my laundry. I had some more home made split pea soup. I put in in the crockpot on Saturday so it's good for three days. I've loved pea soup since I was a kid and had Campbell's pea soup from the can. Much better made from the dried peas!! Yum.
I spoke with my sister, Patti, my sister Tammy, and my sister-in-law Jo Anne. Always good catching up with them. My son Joe is getting over his cold and now Darlene has it. Hoping she will get well quickly.
That's enough silly chatter. Wishing you all a beautiful week ahead!
Awe such a sweet picture of Joe.
ReplyDeleteYou are one busy gal.
I have my groceries delivered from WalMart. I love Publix and get the Bogo's but they are expensive.
Have a good week.
Strawberries! One of my favorites. Eat a few for me!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a nice lunch with Shirley.
I do some online grocery shopping too and also find that it saves me money.
Aww - I always enjoy when you show pictures of your sweet Joe. Love his smile!
Love that photo of Joe, Terri! What a wonderful man he was.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear all about your weekend, too. I've had both of those shots, and it's probably not a good idea to have them too close together.
Blessings!
I, too, so love that picture of your Joe! This time of year always brings back memories of my former Bartow in-laws' and their love of fresh strawberries. I'm wondering if the Kroger's 'Boost' isn't the same as what Wal-Mart's trying to get me to join -- free deliveries and gas discounts. So far I'm good with driving over there and getting them put in my car, but I'm sure there may come a time.
ReplyDeleteStrawberries! What's not to love! They are one of my favorite fruits.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet photo of Joe. I know your heart aches for missing him.
I've heard bad things about the shingles shot: a) it can make you very ill and b) that it doesn't do what it's supposed to do. I hope your results are better.
Blessings & Hugs. xx
Yummy for strawberries and I love that photo of your hubby. Take care my friend and have fun with your group tomorrow...it sounds like you will all be eating well.
ReplyDeleteHow does Kroger do on choosing your groceries? I hadn't used Walmart's shopping service in a while and tried it again when I had covid. Nothing has changed, they still do a terrible job choosing produce. I won't use them for that again!
ReplyDeleteStacy, Kroger has been doing great. Their trucks have freezers and are refrigerated. No broken eggs, no melted ice cream, and the produce has been perfect. You can choose substitutes, but so far they have delivered everything I order. I've used them six times now and am sold. I tried Walmart once and it was awful. No refrigeration, the driver expected a tip (Kroger doesn't want you to tip) and his personal car was dirty. Kroger does it right.
DeleteAwwww, that picture of Joe and the strawberry shortcake is so precious. Made me smile with a little tear in my eye seeing him looking so healthy and happy. (((hugs))) Yes, I am loving the fresh strawberries. I haven't made a shortcake yet, but I've been eating them with my yogurt and granola for a snack, and also slicing some on a salad at lunch. They are so good. You are blessed to be right in the heart of the strawberry fields area! Nice and fresh for sure!! Thinking of you and praying you have a wonderful week...take care and God bless!
ReplyDeleteI've had the shingles shot (it's a two-parter) and just fyi you may have some flu like symptoms that seem to last a day. I was pretty good but hubs definitely felt it, more the second shot than the first. Better than getting shingles though! Strawberry short cake is one of my favorites. So envious of your beautiful strawberries. SC has good berries, but we've got to wait a while. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until it is strawberry season here in Alabama!! I love that picture of your sweetie. It made me smile!! I have had my RSV shot and both Shingles shots. I didn't have any major side effects with any of them - just a sore arm!
