Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's Saturday 9 questions. You can join in HERE!
Young Girl
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!
Saturday 9: Young Girl (1968)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) The song is about a girl who is too young for romance. How old were you when your parents allowed you to date? I had a "steady" boyfriend when I was a sophomore, so 15 years old, but we went to school events or hung out at my house. Small town, no car, no movie theater... it was all very innocent.
2) Lead singer Gary Puckett mentions the girl's perfume. What scent do you wear most often? I can't stand perfume. It gives me horrid headaches. There hasn't been perfume or after-shave cologne in our house for years and years. I have to move sometimes, in church, in restaurants, on airplanes. I can't stand perfumes. The flowery ones are the worst. The same for very fragrant flowers like the lily, honeysuckle, and gardenias can put me out.
3) "Young Girl" reached #2 on the charts and stayed there for three weeks, but it never hit #1. It was stuck behind Otis Redding's "(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay." Are you competitive by nature? No. Or would you be satisfied doing well, but not being #1? I am happy doing well and don't have to be first or front and center. I'm a behind-the-scenes kind of gal.
4) The Union Gap got together in San Diego, California's second most populated city. Have you ever visited California? Nope. If yes, where did you go? I've never had a desire to visit California.
5) The Union Gap performed at a White House state dinner for special guests Prince Charles and Princess Anne. Some in attendance that night maintain that President Nixon seemed to be playing matchmaker that night between the Prince and his daughter, Tricia. Have you ever tried to fix people up? If yes, did romance result? I actually remember all of the talk about Tricia Nixon and Prince Charles. She was smart to leave it alone!! LOL I have never tried to be a match-maker.
6) After six Top 20 hits in three years, the Union Gap disbanded. Today Gary Puckett tours as a solo artist on the "oldies circuit" with Peter Noone of the Herman's Hermits. Without looking it up, can you name any of the Herman's Hermits hits? I'm Henry the 8th, I am, I am.... I got married to the widow next door. She's been married seven times before... I used to know all the words to that one!
7) In 1968, when "Young Girl" was a hit, Jacqueline Kennedy married Aristotle Onassis. Think about the last wedding you attended. Were you closer to the bride or groom? Groom.
8) Also in 1968, the most popular movie in theaters was Funny Girl, starring Barbra Streisand. What's the last movie you watched? My Big Fat Greek Wedding #3. It was awful and I was so disappointed. (I also watched several Christmas classics.)
9) Random question -- Come clean: Right now are there more dishes in your sink or clothes in your hamper? I don't leave dishes in the sink - ever. I did a load of laundry Wednesday, but there are some clothes in the hamper, so hamper it is.

I have about run out of movies that interest me... Down to Mama's family reruns, always good laughs,
ReplyDeleteI never leave dishes in the sink either, lol. Wishing you a beautiful day my friend.
ReplyDeleteI'm disappointed to hear that #3 is awful. I won't get in any hurry to see it then, I guess. I loved Herman's Hermits back in the day and that was a good one and I know a lot of the words too. Be Thou My Vision is a song we don't sing often and I was kind of surprised I knew the melody. In fact, I had to sing both of those songs in my mind (at least partly) before moving on. lol Hope you have a great day!
ReplyDeleteNo dishes in the sink for me either. And, I just started laundry - so nothing in my laundry basket either, for a few minutes!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear the movie wasn't good!
Have a great day!
I so agree with you about cologne/perfume! My mother once told me everyone needs their 'signature' fragrance. Then again, those were the days of matching soaps and bath powders. So glad those went by the way! Now recalling all the high-end perfume commercial blitzes on television around Christmas, I'm curious who's buying them.
ReplyDeleteGotta go wash the dishes Tom left in the sink sometime in the overnight!
Some items are so heavily perfumed they stink. I don't like those odors either. Been using All Free And Clear laundry detergent. It has absolutely no odor or irritants.
ReplyDeleteFun post.
Stay warm. Blessings. xx
I've quit wearing fragrance of any kind, Terri, as I've developed a negative reaction to it, no matter how mild it might be. I loved this band back in the 60s, too, as well as Herman's Hermits. In fact, years ago, I attended an Oldies concert and actually saw Peter Noone perform. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love that hymn at the end. I also do not wear any fragrance and can't stand to be near them, and we often have moved away from them in church, etc. Hubby can't stand them either. "Mrs. Brown you've got a lovely daughter" is one of H.H.'s songs I remember. I didn't officially date until I was 16, but like you, had a boyfriend at 15, actually went to the prom at 15 because we sophomores provided the "Entertainment" for the Jr./Sr. prom. No dishes in the sink at the moment. I will be cooking supper soon and there will be some until I get them done. I did laundry this morning, so the hamper is empty right now. Never been to California and have no desire to do so. I enjoyed your answers. This one I could actually come up with some answers! LOL. Have a fun weekend.
ReplyDeleteGreat answers and I so well remember this song and the other ones mentioned. My goodness, am I really that old? :o))) Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteWe are alike on the perfume/cologne/smelly flowers -- I am immediately sent into a major allergy attack. I, too, used to know all the words to Henry the Eighth, I am I am!!
