Monday's Weekend Recap...

Flamingos are fun.  When we were moving to Florida, back in 1989, our neighbors in Virginia threw a going-away party for us and the theme was flamingos.  They said that Italians in Florida must have flamingos in the yard for decorations.  Not sure what movie that may have come from, but we had flamingo napkins, plates, trays, glasses...   No flamingos in the yard, however, until we moved to Mas Verde.  It began with this...

I painted him and changed out the artificial plants and flowers numerous times until he started to fall apart.  Then, I got this one...

And he has been re-painted twice  along with changes to the artificial plants and flowers.  His neck wants to bend and I was afraid it would break off, so here are the new ones I put out front on Saturday.  They are metal and a bit more substantial so I hope they will last for a few years.  The flowers are also metal.  I don't do live plants.  This is how I make it look like someone at least cares... (LOL)

The metal flowers cover the sprinkler system pipes that stick up that high.  I could have them cut down and capped, but it gives me something stable to attach the flowers to. That's my excuse, anyway.

So, that is my flamingo story and why I put them in front of my house.  I also received a hand-crafted greeting card from a blogging friend and it is framed and in my living room...

Excuse the reflection...

  1. Love the flamingoes!! They are very classy!!! Yes, I do hope they will stay strong and happy there for many years! Metal flowers? They look so real!! That's a great idea. Maybe I need to think about that as mine keep dying too. Have a happy pink flamingo kind of day!!!

  2. All the flamingos made me giggle. I'm a native Floridan. In all the years we lived there I didn't decorate with them. Now that I live in Georgia I want some of those. Funny, isn't it?! Mostly, though, I like windchimes. The noisier the better. Good thing we live way out in the country or my neighbors would probably complain about the constant "tinkling" noises when the wind blows! LOL
"Blessed Assurance" is one of my favorite hymns! YES, He is mine! Praise His name.
Have a wonderful day my friend. Keep looking up. xx

  4. My friends do a flamingo Christmas gag and each year someone in the family gets the flamingo to keep until the next Christmas. It is always a small gift with a flamingo on it.

  6. When our 7 year old granddaughter was about 18 months old, she went to visit her other grandpa in Florida. She came home with a stuffed animal -- he was a friendingo . . .she called flamingos that for a long long time!!

  8. I love your flamingos and the artificial greenery. I don't think most people know it, but for the last 2 summers my hanging baskets on my front porch are artificial. My sister helped me put them together (actually I helped her, as I don't even have a green thumb for artificial plants). This summer I will have to change them out as the sun finally made the red fade out really bad. I hope you have a great day, Terri!
