The Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Thanks to our amazing hostess, Joyce!!  You can be a Hodgepodger HERE!!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 535

From this Side of the Pond

1. Do you have a word for the year (WOTY)? If so, and you'd like to share, please share. How do you decide on a word? If you don't have a word are you still on the hunt for one for 2024?  I quit doing resolutions years ago, then started looking for a "word" but I quit doing that a couple of years ago.  Just not feeling it.

2. January 23rd is National Pie Day...will you celebrate? Do you like pie? What's your favorite?  I did not have pie yesterday. I served my small church group fresh strawberries with shortcake and whipped cream.  I like cherry pie and most custard pies, especially coconut custard.  Pie is never my first dessert choice.

3. Tipping. What are your thoughts, expectations, as to who, when where? Do you appreciate a store/restaurant giving a 'suggested amount'? Have you ever left an extravagant tip?  I do tip for good service.  I don't mind that the suggested amounts are offered on the bill.  I can't afford to be very extravagant but do usually do a little more than 20%.  I don't get leaving a tip for carryout or serve yourself places.  I do tip for delivery service.

4. Share with us one household 'tip' that works for you.  Don't leave it until later.  It is so much easier to deal with "it" and be done with "it".

5. Influencers on social media are people who've built a reputation for their knowledge and expertise on a particular subject. Do you follow any influencers online? Have you made a purchase or tried something new because of that 'influence'? If there's one you particularly enjoy tell us who they are and why you enjoy them.  I don't follow any influencers.  I've never tried something because of an influencer.  I do, however, pay attention to my blogging connections and will look for something y'all like or have tried with success.  I also try shared recipes, so thanks for those!!  😃

6. Insert your own random thought here.  My small church group went well last night and everyone enjoyed my chicken and rice casserole.  Dessert was a big hit!  We did the introduction for our new Bible study on Habakkuk.  I'm looking forward to it!!   My next time to host will be in March. Time is flying!

Peace and Hugs!

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me save that Thou art
Thou my best thought by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light

  1. I missed pie day! I'm not so much a pie person, but Bob likes it.
I just finished my Habakkuk study. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours.

  2. I haven't been doing the WOTY for a couple years and I'm not this year either. I also don't do resolutions.

  3. #4 is so spot on! I just wish it hadn't taken me so long to figure out, lol.
Please let us know how you enjoy the Habakkuk study; our little group is always looking for recommendations.

  4. Yeah, thinking of a WOTY is a bit tiring. I did it this year but may discontinue it because having one doesn't really change anything. At least, not for me. *grin*
Cake would be my first choice over pie anytime. I do love the smell of Baked Apple though. Makes my mouth water.
#4 answer was perfect. Wished I'd thought of that but I had a brain freeze.
That's wonderful that the Church meeting went well. I wish our Church could do more but our congregation is dwindling. It pains me to say it but we may have to fold and go find another place of worship. Sure don't want to go down that road again. Starting all over with a new Church family, I mean ...
    Love & Prayers xx

  5. Sounds like your meal was a hit! Great. I do not like coconut in any way shape or form - lol - I do like cherry and pecan.
I try to tip 20% if possible. I too don't tip on serve yourself or carry out - but do on delivery.
That pumpkin pie with whipped cream looks pretty good.

  7. Oh my goodness! We sang that song "Be Thou My Vision", at choir practice last night, and recorded it for the website for the Sunday message! That is amazing. I have been enjoying strawberries, but still haven't made strawberry shortcake yet. I guess it's about time! Glad you had a nice time with your group. That is really nice that you are able to participate in that! Hope you have a great rest of your week.

  8. Tipping: I try to be generous, but like you, I see no need to tip when I've had to do the work myself.

Pie: Since I'm behind in my blog reading this week, I missed this special day but to make up for it, we bought a coconut cream pie on Thursday and enjoyed it with neighbors that afternoon.
