Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 508
2. What was your fondest (or one of your fondest) memory of High School? Marching band memories with good friends. We had so much fun and we were really good!! I also loved art class and was voted the most talented senior girl. Ha! More than one!
3. What did you do the summer after High School? I had a job cleaning rooms in a motel (Motel76), which was across from the truck stop on an I-70 exit. I was preparing to attend Columbus Business University (now Columbus University) and to get married (in December that year - 1970).
4. June 14th is National Strawberry Shortcake Day...are you a fan, and if so will you celebrate? How do you make yours? Have you been strawberry picking? If so what do you do with all those berries? February is our strawberry season so we are over it here! I do like strawberries and strawberry shortcake. I use the Bisquick velvet crumb cake recipe for my shortcake. I do not pick berries anymore but I did have them in my garden when I lived in Maryland. Strawberries freeze well. My friend, Elaine, makes the best strawberry jam! Yum!
5. What's something you always splurge on? Purses!! BOGO things at the grocery!
6. Insert your own random thought here. I apologize for not visiting all of my blogging friends last week and this week. I am still coughing and blowing and am working a full 8 hours yesterday, today, and tomorrow, to make up the hours I missed last week. I'm tired and the time gets away from me. Boohoo... sorry!
I do want to give a shout-out to my niece, Sara! I mentioned a few blogs ago that she submitted her Ph.D. dissertation. She did the oral dissertation defense yesterday and passed with flying colors! She is a Ph.D. and will walk at graduation this summer! We are all so very proud of her!! Her hubby is finishing his fellowship in neurology and they will be moving back to Ohio next month! Son, Ezra, turns one soon. They are busier than busy... and young!

A lot of good memories with band... except I inherited the baritone sax that I had to lug around with the Tuba players.. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, Sara finished her Ph.D. and has a one year old baby??? That is pretty amazing!! Yes, you should be proud of her! Don't know how she did it! I enjoyed your answers. I am sorry you are still coughing and blowing and having to work those extra hours each day to make up for last week. Please don't overdo it and prolong the misery... Yes, I love strawberries and shortcake too, and yes, our season is over and now all we can get are those California strawberries...not as good as our Florida berries if you ask me! Wow, you are an artist and a musician! That IS a lot of talent! I took art in college and enjoyed it so much. I used to draw all the time, but once the babies came a long I kind of gave up on it and now I can barely draw a stick figure! LOL. If you don't use it you lose it. Photography is my art now. Much easier! LOL. Yes, I love the hymn "Jesus is all the world to me, my life, my joy, my all. He is my strength from day to day, without Him I would fall." Amen. I hope you have a blessed day and that you won't over tire yourself. Take care my friend.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your niece! I hope you feel better soon. I've had a cough for two weeks, definitely on the tail end but still annoying to me and also to hubs lol. He had it first and we both got it from the grandsons. Just a cough though, no other symptoms. I have strawberries in my freezer so think I'll make shortcake tonite. My mom loves dessert and since she's here it will be a nice treat. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteHooray for Sara! That's a big accomplishment, and doing it with a little one is even more so.
ReplyDeleteSorry you are still dealing with sickness. A lot of my family members are too.
I worked on a strawberry farm in Junior High. I love them, but Bob doesn't - can you believe that? I bought my first quart yesterday and will be having them on my salad today.
Congratulations to your Sara!! Sharp cookie! As well as her hubby...

Congratulations to Sara - and her hubby. (I'm exhausted, just imagining their life!) 'Sure agree how our priorities look different than when we were in our 40's. Please take good care of yourself these workdays; I hope Damon(?) is keeping a good eye on you.
ReplyDeleteI've few memories from high school and don't care for strawberries, so I had to recuse myself from HP-ing.
Sending a BIG Congratulations to Dr. Sara!! Hope you feel better soon, a summer cold is the worst.
ReplyDeleteGreat news about Sara and her husband, Terri! All the best to both of them!
ReplyDeleteI do love strawberries, too; I usually just eat them fresh as neither of us eat much dessert.
Blessings, and continue to feel better!
Congrats to Sara! I hope you are feeling better. Hard to make up days when you are not up to snuff.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the feeling of being productive. But I also noticed it changes as I age. Lol! I love strawberry desserts! Now I'm remembering marching bands in high school. Fun!
ReplyDeleteRegarding high school memories: My family moved a lot during all of my growing up years. I went to 4 high schools in 3 states and 1 Canadian province. I graduated with decent grades but don't have a lot of really great memories about the experience. Life got better for me after graduation.
