Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions.  You can join in HERE!

The Best

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to
answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: The Best (1991)

In memory of Tina Turner, who died on May 24.
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Tina Turner sings that she can think of no better place to be than her lover's arms. Since we're entering summer vacation season, let's switch it to: What's the best place you've ever traveled to?  Italy!!

2) Songwriters Holly Knight and Desmond Child originally offered this song to English pop singer Paul Young. He declined it. Can you think of a time when you said "no" when "yes" might have been a better answer?  Nothing specific comes to mind but I am sure it has been more than once.

3) Tina Turner was born in Nutbush, TN. In 1973 she recorded a song about it called "Nutbush City Limits." Is there a song about your hometown?  No. My little hometown is barely a spec on the map.  I don't think Lakeland has a song, either.

4) It was at Nutbush's Spring Hill Baptist Church that very young Tina began singing with the choir. She credited those early performances with giving her confidence in front of a crowd. Are you comfortable with public speaking?  No, I am not. I avoid it always.

5) When she was a teen, her mom relocated the family to St. Louis. It was here that Tina played on the high school basketball team. Can you make a free throw?  Nope.  I was briefly on the girls' basketball team back when girls' rules were half-court with a roving guard and a roving forward.  I was the roving guard.  I couldn't make a basket if my life depended on it.

6) Tina met her second husband, Erwin Bach, at the airport. A record exec, Erwin went to Heathrow to meet her flight and help her prepare for her London appearances. The last time you were at the airport, were you a traveler or were you meeting or dropping someone off?  I have picked up a few people at the airport since Joe died.  I love the cell-phone lots. Makes it a lot easier to get folks.

7) In 1991, the year this record was released, Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury died. What's your favorite Queen song?  I have to say "We Will Rock You".  I've never been a real Queen fan but do like most of their songs when they come on in the car.

8) Also in 1991, Disney's Beauty and the Beast became the first animated movie to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. What's your favorite Disney movie?  I don't have a favorite Disney movie.  The early ones are the ones I remember but I remember The Mickey Mouse Club on TV more than any of the movies.  I didn't have kids.  My grandson loved Jaws!!  LOL

9) Random question: What's your perfect day, weatherwise?  No humidity and temps around 80*.  Billowy clouds and a slight breeze, please.

Peace & Hugs!

You're a good, good Father It's who you are,
it's who you are, it's who you are...

  1. Your favorite day weatherwise is pretty much what we had here yesterday. I sat outside on the swing for a long while, in the shade of course, but there was a nice breeze and it wasn't very humid. Yes, perfect...although I could stand it a little bit cooler. Mid 70's is nice! My favorite Disney movie that I remember from childhood was The Lady and the Tramp. I saw that when I was about 4 or 5 loved it. Haven't seen it since that I can recall. LOL. Nowadays the Disney movies are too "woke" for children or anyone. It's sad how they've changed. I would have thought you to be a good basketball player since you are so nice and tall. I never was very good at it. Just not coordinated enough I guess. Plus, we didn't even have a girl's basketball team back then. We just played in P.E. I like Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" as well as "We Will Rock You", and "We Are the Champions". That's all I really remember of their songs. I hope you have a wonderful day today. Not sure what we are doing yet. Just taking it easy I guess. And yes, "You're a good, good Father...and I'm loved by you, it's who I am..." amen.

  4. Italy is a place I'd dearly love to visit., but doubt it will ever happen. International travel is not something Tim has any desire to do. Heck, I can't even get him to take a vacation here at home. Girls' rule basketball? I don't think I've ever heard of it. It was full court press when I played.

    1. I graduated from HS in 1970. One year later, half-court rules stopped. I found this online: In 1971, we were finally considered robust enough to play a full-court game, and in 1985, Senda Berenson became the first woman to make the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

  5. Yes, definitely Italy! The MM Club was a fixture on my childhood television -- Cubby and Karen were my favs. Pretty sure I'm in the minority, but my 'perfect' day would include snow on the ground, no humidity and daytime highs about 55-60. Hugs!

  6. I like that kind of day, too, Terri, although I prefer even cooler temps.
    Happy Saturday!
