The Tuesday 4 About Pets...

Thanks to Annie for continuing Toni's Tuesday 4!!  You can join in HERE.

Tuesday 4

Pets

 Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday

Let's talk about pets okay?  Some people love them, some can't be bothered and some dislike them. Where do you stand?

1  Do you have pets?  Yes.

2. Did you have a pet growing up?  Yes.  Tell us about it, please. We got a dog, Happy, when I was around four years old.  My brother was three years younger than me and 'hap hap hap' was the only word he could say at the time, so the dog got named Happy.  Happy lived a good long life.  I don't have a picture of Happy and that makes me sad.  She was a small mixture of many breeds.  We also had a bunch of indoor/outdoor cats who came and went through the years or sometimes went and never came back.  Charlie, Spunky, Puff, Ringo...

3.  Are pets too much trouble, or, do you find neighbors' pets to be a problem?  Pets are a lot of work and do take a lot of your time but it is worth every clean-up and every minute.  They are also expensive to feed and care for so when you get a pet, you are making a promise to that animal to care for him or her and sometimes have to make hard decisions for them.  My neighbors who have dogs are always welcome to bring them over and I have a jar of doggy treats by my front door if that tells you anything!!

4. Do you think dogs make good housemates or watchdogs?  It depends on the dog.  Some of them love everyone and don't make good watchdogs.  Pets, trained properly, are always good housemates!  Do you think women living alone need a dog for security or companionship?  I'm a woman alone who has cats.  I haven't had a dog in nearly 40 years (even though I love dogs, too).  I would not rely on a dog for security but they usually always provide good companionship.  So do cats, by the way!!

Happy November!! This year is flying by!

Peace & hugs!

Let's don't forget that God created ALL animals!!

  1. Lots of wonderful memories of pets.. sadly their lives are so short... except for one cat I had that lived for 23 years.

  2. What a cute memory, how your brother named Happy!
I've never had a cat but there's no doubt, like dogs, they've a way of wrapping themselves are our hearts.

You're right -- having to care for our fur babies isn't inexpensive but those are bills I don't even care about paying. I can't put a price on what we get in return.

  4. Thanks for joining in. I have had a bunch of cats through my life all who lived over 20 years and they made great friends! I had dogs as well but I found cats to be less work and more able to care for themselves.

  5. This is a delightful post, Terri. You are definitely a person who enjoys pets.

Me, I like dogs best and have had 9 in my lifetime. I do like it when someone else in the family takes care of the pets because being a mommy kept me busy enough as it was.

    Love and hugs!

  6. We do not have any pets but our neighborhood has a plenty for all of us. Thankfully most of them have electric fences to keep them in their own yards. We just do not want the responsibility of a pet at this point in our lives but are happy for those that do. :o)) Thanks for your prayers while I am in Israel.

  8. I love how you enjoy your cats...and I know they are good company for you. I've never had an indoor cat of my own. We had a couple of "barn cats" when we lived in Maine...the "barn" was actually attached to the house and they did come inside sometimes, but they enjoyed exploring the barn (which was more of a big old carriage house turned garage) most of the time. My sister is the cat person in our family. She's always had them...some are feral that live on her back porch and refuse to come inside, and then she has an indoor cat now that you never see, and an outdoor neighborhood cat that comes and goes and loves to visit her in the garden. I enjoyed your answers, and your dog "happy" sound like a happy and sweet companion. Most of my pet memories were cut short by moves or issues beyond my control. Finally just gave up on having them...

  9. Our cat is a good companion, too! I chuckled at the dog's name and your brother's word!

  10. I enjoyed hearing about your pets. We almost always had a dog while growing up and since we've been married we've almost always had one too.
