Friday Fotos...

Wonder of wonders!  Another Friday with a few new photos to share!!  I think my regular readers know that Lakeland is the home of Publix.  George Jenkins started Publix Supermarkets here in Polk County and the headquarters is here in Lakeland as one of our biggest employers.

Well, Red Lobster also got its start here in Lakeland and I only bring it up because I drive by the original Red Lobster twice a day on my way to and from work now.  When Joe and I first moved to Lakeland, we ate at Red Lobster often in the original building.  Over the years, it was quite a few other restaurants but it has been sitting empty for a long time.  I noticed a few weeks ago that there were workers there so one afternoon I pulled over and snapped a couple of pictures. You can't read the sign in front, but it appears it is to become a bait and tackle fishing shop.  It does sit right across from Lakeland's biggest lake, Lake Parker.  Here is a link about the original Red Lobster and here are the two photos I took.

Tuesday evening, I had dinner with ladies from my church at Catfish Country.  We call it Femaleship (a play on fellowship) and we had a good time.  I took a picture.  There is only one woman who I don't know very well and she sat on the opposite end of the table from me. Perhaps I can seek her out next time.  It is always nice to share time with fellow believers!  We have all ages, from just starting college (front left) to a few great-grandmas.

Peace & hugs!
Thankful for Jesus in my life!

  1. What a beautiful table-full of ladies! You've got this Friday-the-13th off to a good start with your photos and cheery captions. Have a good day, blessed of the Lord as you are! Love and hugs!

  2. I didn't know that Red Lobster started at Lakeland. I always thought it was a northern chain. Learn something new everyday. Growing up we loved to go to the one in Pensacola. The one here is just hard to get into because of its location...attracts too many tourists.
Great photo of the ladies and I love that it involves so many ages. I think we need to commune across the age groups. WE learn from each other.

  3. Terri I still drive about ten minutes to my old Publix. I just love that chain. So glad you were able to get out with your friends.

  4. I did know that Publix originated in Lakeland, but had no idea about Red Lobster. Love the photos with all the ladies of diverse ages, but a shared love for the Lord. Such a blessing, Terri!

  5. That's a bit sad about the original Red Lobster vacating, then the next tenant not having any luck. I think the original Hooters restaurant (Clearwater) is still a draw because in large part, it's the original.

Your reaching out to that one lady at Femaleship is such a lovely gesture!

    1. Yes, we do, but "up in the north end of town" so we rarely venture up there. We have Fish City Grill and Shells down here in our south end of town.

  8. What a wonderful photo. It's so nice to see all those smiling faces. I wish we'd get a Publix in Waycross or Jesup (only 20+ miles for us). There's one in Brunswick (50 miles east). Along with Ingles chain, Publix is one of the best grocery store chains in the South.
    Blessings. xx

  9. We love our Publix up here in Palatka, although this past year I have shopped more at our local Hitchcock's store because it is closer and never as crowded. That was nice during the pandemic, and now we've just gotten used to it. It's not bad, but they often don't have really good/fresh produce. Other than that, it's okay. Haven't been to Red Lobster in a long time. We don't have any near us here. But I remember it way back when it first opened in Orlando, when we were first married, so that's been 52 years ago! Wow! I love the picture of your "femaleship" group. That is so great. I am glad you get out with the ladies and enjoy that time together. We need more of that kind of "femaleship" these days. Have a blessed and wonderful weekend.

    1. Yes. It was not comfortable. My friend, Cindy, said she is glad she didn't have to go to the restroom!

  12. So interesting to see that original Red Lobster building.
I love the pic of your girls group. It's so nice to get to know each other better and especially nice that there are such varying ages. I'm so glad you are so blessed by your church.
