Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's questions!  You can join in HERE!

What's Love Got to Do with It?

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

What's Love Got to Do with It? (1984)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

What's Love Got to Do with It is also the title of Tina Turner's film biography, which tells of Tina's escape from her abusive, controlling husband, Ike. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Spread the word that help is available.

1) The video was shot around New York City in spring. Kids are seen jumping rope. Were you good at jump rope? Has it ever been part of your workout routine as an adult?  I was okay at jumping rope. I could run in and run out and even did doubles a few times but I haven't jumped rope in years and years and years.

2) In real life, Tina Turner played basketball for her school. Were you good at team sports?  I played basketball a little (guard) but was not "into" it.  I was more into art an band.  Marching band could be counted as a team sport.

3) In the video, Tina Turner wears a little black dress topped with a denim jacket. That jacket is a fashion staple 36 years later. Do you own a denim jacket?  I do have a denim jacket.  My sister, Patti, got it for me a few years ago. Love it.

3) This song was first offered to Cliff Richard, a major pop star in England who never enjoyed gained superstar status in the US. Perhaps, if he had recorded "What's Love Got to Do with It?" he would have been better known on this side of the ocean. Tell us about a time when you said "no" when "yes" might have been the better answer. I can't think of a thing.  I don't usually change my mind after saying no, and I have learned to say no more often.

4) Tina's first marriage, to Ike Turner, was a painful one. Her second marriage, to German music executive Erwin Bach has been far more supportive. This has been a blessing since Tina has had serious health problems in recent years. Do you have any medical/dental appointments scheduled?  Ha!!  Our social life revolves around doctor and dentist appointments. We're old!!

5) Tina met Erwin at Heathrow Airport in 1986. He was there to help her prepare for her London performances. They immediately liked one another, but didn't become romantically involved until months later and were surprised to find themselves falling in love. Have you ever had a romantic relationship that crept on you?  Nope.

6) The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards referred to Tina as his "favorite aunt." Is there anyone who isn't a relative of yours by blood but you refer to as aunt, uncle, brother, sister, etc.?  Not anymore, but Bob and Pat Snoke lived across the street from us when we were growing up.  They asked us to call them Aunt Pat and Uncle Bob so we did. Our entire neighborhood back then was like family. Seriously. I was so blessed to grow up in a small farming town.

7) Former President George W. Bush is also a big Tina Turner fan, and has praised her for having "the most famous legs in show business." What do you believe is your best physical feature?  Maybe my green eyes. I'm old.

8) At home, Tina often doesn't always play music or TV because she appreciates quiet as much as music. What about you? Do you enjoy quiet?  Quiet is fine but I concentrate better when there is noise to block out.  My mind tends to wander when it is quiet.

9) Random question: On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being "very lazy" and 10 being "very productive," what number are you?  Some days I'm a 1 and other days I can be an 8.  My 10-days are long gone!! LOL  These pandemic days have seen me at 1 too often, I'm afraid.

Happy Weekend and thanks for your visit!
Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

  1. Great answers. My best physical feature? Hmmm, when I was younger it was my red hair that I was most known for. Now it is faded to a brownish something and no longer gets the attention it used to! My legs were never anything to be excited about either, but they got me where I was going and I am sure thankful for them.LOL. I do have a denim jacket that I never wear, and a denim vest that I used to wear a lot. Maybe I will pull it back out now that it is fall. I kind of like the "sounds of silence" these days. When I was young I had to have music on all the time. Now it is a distraction. I'd rather hear birds singing. LOL Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. I love my denim jackets. I have a regular one and also have a lined one for winter that my hubby got me last year.
    Have a great day!

  3. I have a black denim jacket that I love to wear when it's just a tad chilly outdoors. My best feature, like you, Terri, are my eyes, which are blue. Before the pandemic, I might have said it was my hair, but not anymore! Yuck! How I wish I could get it styled and cut.
Blessings, and have a great weekend!

  5. I like quiet....I used to have on the tv all the time just for noise but now I like the time alone with my thoughts or time to pray while stitching. As for being productive.....I am productive doing the things I like to do.lol

  7. Terri,

Most of us are facing our senior years with restrictions. I'm still fairly active but even still I know my limits. I've come to understand the phrase, 'Youth is wasted on the young' more with each passing year. You don't understand what you have until it's gone. I'm thankful for my general healthy well-being. My mind tends to wonder more as my HRT wears off. Thanks for sharing your answers. Have a good weekend!

  8. #1 loved jump rope as a 3rd grader. Now, women our age should not shake things up like that!
#2 yes, by all means, marching band has you on your feet for a long time and coordination is necessary when marching.
#3 no denim jacket in my closet.
#4 This happens to me with both yes and no.
    #5 yes
    #6 no
#7 my brown eyes seem to catch people’s attention, probably because I’m a good listener.
    #8 Love quiet. and solitude.
    #9 These days, I’m probably a 7 but used to be a 9.

  9. AMEN to your #10! Imagine many of us would fit that mold. Yep, on the medical appointments. I was telling Tom, our 2020 will probably go down as the Year of the Doctor.
Great point about marching band being a team sport .... synergy!
