Along Comes a Friend
Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love me mes, however, and here is today's meme! Saturday 9: Along Comes a Friend (Theme from Kate and Allie) (1984)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This week's song is the theme from Kate and Allie, a sitcom that ran from 1984 to 1989. Were you a fan? I don't remember this show and have never seen it. Sorry!
2) The show was about two divorced women who live and raise their children together. Were you ever a single parent? No. Were you raised by a single parent? No. I was blessed with a wonderful mom & dad.
3) Allie is proud that she can make a perfect cup of coffee: "Just the essence of the bean. No acidity." Kate is proud that she can belch the alphabet. What are you proud of? I'm always proud of Joe and our two 'boys'. I'm proud of our daughter-in-law and her big heart. I'm proud of our grandchildren and their accomplishments and talents.
4) Kate and Allie share half of a duplex in Greenwich Village. Many episodes had them doing laundry in the basement. Where are your washer and dryer? In a laundry closet in our kitchen area.
5) Kate was played by Susan St. James. She was familiar to viewers as the "wife" in McMillan and Wife. Without looking it up, do you know who played McMillan? Nope. That isn't a show I've ever seen either.
6) Allie was played by Jane Curtin. She was one of three women in the original Saturday Night Live cast. Without looking it up, can you name the other two? Now, this I CAN answer. I loved the original SNL with Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman, and Gilda Radner!!
7) On the set, Jane Curtin ran a poker game for the cast and crew. Do you think winning at poker takes more luck or skill? I don't know how to play poker, so I really can't answer this other than to apply the question to any other card game. The luck of the draw, for sure, but you also need to know how to play the cards you are dealt. So a little luck and skill are both needed.
8) The Kate & Allie theme was co-written and sung by John Lefler. Years later, Mr. Lefler wrote the theme for the Pokemon show. Is anyone in your life into Pokemon? Grandson Tristan was into Pokemon years ago. Years and years ago. He is soon to be 22.
9) Random question: What's the last thing you whispered? I have no idea! Joe wears hearing aids and I still have to repeat myself at least twice. Maybe I whispered to myself some kind of expletive when he said "what" for the hundredth time! LOL

Thanks to you for your visit!! Peace & hugs!!

I dont remember Kate and Allie either, so couldnt answer the questions, and believe it or not I was never a fan of Saturday Night Live either. Hope you have a good Saturday.
ReplyDeleteI am proud that I can smell round corner. Without entering the kitchen I know what's cooking. The last thing I whispered to myself was "Hmmm Foooood!!!!"
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Nope... dead end here too with that program... Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDelete#6 Rock Hudson. And I'm with you on #9.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!
I loved Kate and Allie!! Like you, I loved the old SNL and Jane was one of my favorites. I was glad to see her come back to tv in Third Rock from the Sun, a short lived but funny comedy. And you are patient if you only say the expletive after the 100th time.lol
ReplyDeleteI don't remember that show either.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Vague memory of that show...smiles
ReplyDeleteThe loss of hearing has to be the most annoying part of aging. I pretty much have to repeat everything I say twice...even if I do yell it the first time...and forget conversation in a public place because he can't hear over the background noise. At least Joe got hearing aids. Tim refuses to even ask about his hearing.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm nodding like a bobble-head over here at your 'random.' I know he can't help his hearing loss, but man it's aggravating … especially the 3rd time where he turns and says, "You don't have to yell."
ReplyDeleteI don't recall either Kate/Allie or McMillan.
I'm feeling bad now because a couple of you have answered how proud you are of your families and I'm just proud of my baking skills!😂 I'm very proud of my family! Your answer to random was funny because it is the same scenario at our house!
ReplyDeleteI don't recall that show either, except for the title. Happy Saturday, Terri!
ReplyDeletewe learn so much about our friends with posts like this!! I really enjoyed Kate and Allie,,, thank you for visiting me today,,
ReplyDeleteNever watched that show either...have no clue. I don't whisper very often either...and even my whispers tend to be too loud. That's just me. Loud. LOL. However, now that I think about it, I may have whispered "Good night, I love you" to my hubby as we fell asleep last night. I do that every night. Have a blessed and wonderful evening.
