When I woke up yesterday, there was absolutely nothing on our calendar and we had no plans. I said to Joe... let's go over to Brandon and have lunch at Portillo's. He agreed. We had a very lite breakfast and puttered around the house for a while. We didn't want to go over there in the middle of the lunch hour for folks still working so we waited to leave until 1:30.
While waiting, Lucy and Vinny took turns watching the cat video on my laptop...
We left for the 35-mile trip to Portillo's. It's a Chicago-based hot dog/sandwich restaurant. We hadn't been there since we met blogging friend Jean and her hubby, Dick, there when they were visiting their daughter in Tampa, back in October. It's been a while.
It was a beautiful day! Look at that sky!
(The rain didn't come until 7:30 last night.)
Always worth the drive!
Italian beef sandwich with hot pepper relish, and onion rings. So good!
The gas tank was only down a little more than half, but the prices in Hillsboro County are always six or seven cents less per gallon than in our Polk County. We pulled into Wawa to top off the tank before heading back to Lakeland. We still had a couple more stops to make before going home. Dollar Tree for a couple of things and back to Publix for a prescription.
I'm not sure I remember how to put gas in the car. Joe always does it.
So our Thursday with nothing on the calendar ended up being quite nice!! How was yours!!
Thanks for stopping by! Peace & hugs!!

Someone made a video just for cats? 😂
ReplyDeleteThe kitties and their video always cracks me up and makes me smile. The Italian beef sandwich looks good. That's just as common around here for weddings or any big get-together as Polish dishes. Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteInteresting sandwich...I'm not a hot pepper fan, so would probably have to pass on that one, but I am sure it must have been good if you drove that far to get one! LOL. Love the clouds...yes...the rains just keep coming here like clockwork every day. At least I don't have to water the plants. John and I tend to take turns at the gas pump so I won't forget how to do it! LOL. I remember the days when they actually had attendants come and do it for you...and wash the windows, check the oil, check the tires, and give you free dishes just for buying their gas for $.25 a gallon! Those were the days, my friend...we thought they'd never end!!!! Have a blessed and wonderful day!!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the cats watching the video....the sandwich looks good but I cant eat the hot peppers. Would order it without however and enjoy. Gas has been stable for a few days but one never knows when it will go back up, so like you I get it when I can at a less amount. Hope your Friday is a good day.
ReplyDeleteI love that your kitties watch videos. So adorable!
ReplyDeleteYour lunch looks yummy.
I have never pumped gas. One of the perks of living in New Jersey. lol
Have a great day!
I stayed home which was nice for a change and our rain came right at dinner time. We had planned to grill but had some smoked brisket from a restaurant we like instead. We are always on plan B! heehee! I like those days when you can just take off and do something fun!
ReplyDeleteOh that sandwich looks amazing!! I have another friend who has video watching cats. We live in a world of amazing new things don't we?
ReplyDeleteI hope Portillo's comes to Montgomery some day! A few years back I couldn't understand the fuss when they built 3 restaurants in the Phoenix metro. (Lots of Chicago transplants living in Arizona.) In fact, Tom - a Chicago native - had to order on my behalf the first time we went! I don't know about your Brandon location, but I was so impressed by the staff's synergy and customer service.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had a good day, the food looks yummy. Mr D always puts gas in the car, when he was in the hospital I had to do it and I didn't know how! lol I learned real quick.
ReplyDeleteHi Friend from Florida!
ReplyDeleteI love the Lucy and Vinnie photos! I miss having pets a lot.
We also have WaWa here and I like their coffee a lot.
What great photos!!! Thanks for the smiles.
ReplyDeleteOur Thursday was quite full and I may post about it when our grandson leaves. Wawa is such a cute name for a gas station. Jay and I share the gas duty. I put in the credit card and punch buttons and he pumps the gas. That sandwich and onion rings looks fabulous! Very good pics and glad you had a beautiful day.
ReplyDeleteYou have a Wawa there? They are really spreading out. What a great day you had.
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of Wawas here now and my Joe (who is from Philly) loves it!! Most people don't know that it was founded in the town of Wawa, PA and that's where the name comes from.
DeleteMy Thursday involved the long drive to Mom's in the rain so I could relieve my brother from caregiving. Would appreciate prayers as I'm not sure how long I will have to see to Mom. Blessings, Terri!
ReplyDeletePrayers for you and your mom, Martha Jane. Just be with her.
DeleteIt looks like you had a great time and enjoyed the day immensely. Some things are just worth the drive, aren't they. I have always thought FL has some of the most beautiful cloud formations I have ever seen. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteSounds like great day and that sandwich looks good.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a wonderful day! And Joe is a gem. :)
ReplyDeleteLove how you and Joe don't waste a day doing nothing. Like us, you are just as likely to hop into the car to go poke around somewhere fun.
ReplyDeleteThat's the great thing about retirement...spontaneous day trips! Looks like you all had a great time. I get so frustrated with gas prices. ARGH!!! I believe they should be consistently LOW all over the country! But, who asked my opinion, right? LOL! Happy SONday!
