Weekend Recap on Monday....

Saturday was a good day for us!  Two things happened in our 'still-moving-in' adventure.

First of all, when we moved in, I wanted our extra refrigerator to 'live' in the shed. It had been in the garage at the old house. I really can't be without that extra refrigerator for water (by the case at Sam's Club) and extra food and platters when we have company.  Joe agreed, even though he voiced his opinion that we would get tired of running out to the shed.  Well...he was right.  Yes, I ate crow and he has said "I told you so" at least a half-dozen times.

Two friends (and co-workers) came Saturday morning with an appliance mover to help get the 'fridge from the shed into the office/den.  They are young and able-bodied and it only took about a half hour. God bless them.  Love having it handier.

One of those guys, Gregory, agreed several weeks ago to help me hang our art on the walls.  He has hung over 40,000 pieces of art in the museum when he was our preparator.  He has been with the Museum for 21 years - a year longer than me.  Now he is our techie guy and head of operations and security, but he can still hang art without putting a half-dozen holes in the wall for each piece (the way I usually do it).

There he is measuring and leveling.

Gregory is also a sculptor and photographer.  He went to Yellowstone a couple of years ago, on a photography workshop/vacation.  When he sent photos back, I fell in love with this one....

It is not photoshopped.  There was a brush fire which caused the smokey look.  The man in the kayak just struck me.  It brings me such peace. It looks so quiet - I would love to have been on the water at that moment in the early morning.  Gregory gifted me with the print.  It gets lost against our cream colored walls, so he suggested we get a piece of poster board in a darker blue and he will mount it on the wall behind it for us. That will really make it pop.  (The print is on metal, so it can't be framed.)

The house really feels like home now, with our art on the walls, and I also got my little "pretties" out on the new shelf we bought a few weeks ago.  I still need some plate easels and hangers for the plates, but I am happy with it. Every time I walk by, I move something, but it is 'getting there'. Still a little crowded...

Joe and I didn't do much of the work Saturday, but we were both exhausted.  LOL  We are still coughing our heads off, though we feel okay - except for the frustration of the coughing.  We didn't go to church again because of the coughing. Too embarrassing. Sunday we didn't get up until shortly after 10:00. We both needed the sleep.  I did get the laundry done and made a nice brunch for us of waffles and scrambled eggs, then a dinner of pork chops, mashed potatoes, and corn.

Our son will be here this coming weekend and will help us get the twin beds put together in the 2nd guestroom.  Almost done..almost!!  It has taken a village, but we are getting there!

Back to work today.  August 1st will be here soon...

Thanks for peeking in!  Peace & hugs.

  3. So wonderful to have young people around who are willing to help us out. I like the Yellowstone print, but, at first glance, I thought it was a helicopter flying in the air! I haven't noticed the Henry Nouwen quote on your sidebar before. Is that new? I like it. Sometimes it seems that cough will never go away, but it will.

    1. The quote has been there for awhile, but I have a busy sidebar! The kayak does look like a helicopter at first glance!

  5. That really is a lovely picture. And so nice that someone else will hang your artwork. It is so difficult to get four pieces in a row exactlly level and in line with one another. And when they're off just a bit, it drives me crazy. Glad you got your refrigerator moved too. Isn't that second refrig handy!

  6. WoW, he really did a great job hanging all your art, his years of experience has surely made him an expert! We have an extra fridge too, it's in the garage. How I wish it was in the kitchen. Probably won't look so good...I have a girlfriend that has 2 side by side in her kitchen, and it doesn't bother me at all. It's great that everything is coming together for your new home, when you retire you can sit back and enjoy it all. Hope you're having a good day!

  8. I totally understand about having the spare fridge....we have one in our utility room, which is right thru the back door, and dont even have to go outside! Your new home is looking mighty nice and I know you will love living there.

  9. Your house is quickly becoming your HOME, and it looks wonderful!! I totally understand about the 2nd refrigerator. We also have one for all the same reasons, and when ours died this past week I thought I'd die, because it was only 3 yrs. old. God blessed us with a better Used one that is perfect, and much cheaper too!!! So thankful! Your artwork, etc. looks great. I do love that kayak pic too, and agree, a darker background would make it stand out. I do hope that you and Joe will soon be able to stop coughing...praying for you both. I know how frustrating that is. It was good you could sleep in. I know it did you good. Love seeing your home coming together.

  10. What a sweet gift of Gregory's time and talents! Especially, I'm taken by that trio above your wine rack. I know how comforting it feels, being surrounded by objects that make us smile inside.

Having 'suffered' from chronic bronchitis for more years than I want to count - 'barking' even after being well ... a couple years ago I discovered the AWFUL tickle in my throat would subside if I just sat and slowly sipped on hot water. Sounds dumb - and tastes worse, but I was desperate.

  11. You are doing good! I love, love, love that photo!
I have a spare frig in the garage, but the garage is connected to the house, so easy to reach. I think you'll be glad you moved it!
