Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 303

Hi Hodgepodgers! I've got a fun little spring break trip planned with my teacher Daughter2 next week, so no Hodgepodge on April 12th. We're here this week of course, and then will be back the week after Easter, April 19th. Thanks for understanding!

From this Side of the Pond

1. April is Lawn and Garden Month. On a scale of 1-10 what's the current state of your lawn and/or garden. (10=a showpiece, 1=send in the professionals). Tell us about any lawn or garden plans you have for this month.  How about a big 0!! We have a tiny postage-stamp sized lawn now that needs lots of help. We have spoken with the folks who mow for us and they will put in some new sod.  Joe wants to plant a couple of shrubs.  I am not a plant person, but I do want it to look like someone cares! :)

2. "Many things grow in the garden that were never sown there."~Thomas Fuller  What does this quote mean to you?  Oh, so many meanings.  Seeds blow in and/or get dropped whether you want them there or not...could be weeds, could be edible, could be pretty.  The same can apply to our lives once we venture out into the world, leaving a nurturing home where (hopefully) only good things were sown.  One way or the other, you can't let the nasty stuff take hold or it can take over and overwhelm a garden OR your soul!!

3. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think about God?  Peace.

4. If we were chatting in person, how would I know if you were nervous?  Sweat. LOL

5. Do you like the color yellow?  Yes.  Would I find any in your home or wardrobe?  Yes, both!  Daffodils, tulips, roses, sunflowers, day lily, black eyed susan...which yellow bloom on this list is your favorite?  I love all of those except the lily. I can't stand to be close to any lily because they give me fierce headaches.  I would put the black eyed susan first on the list, followed by daffodils and then sunflowers.

6. Flip flops or bare feet?  Bare feet if I must pick. I can't wear flip flops and I really don't like to go bare foot either. Sandals or canvas shoes please.

7. Tell us about any Easter plans, celebrations, or traditions you'll carry out this month. I usually cook Easter dinner for us and friends. This year we will also have family! I always do ham and deviled eggs and then fill in from there. Everyone gets an Easter basket.  We usually go to the Easter Vigil service at church, but probably not this year since we will have non-Catholic company.  The Easter Vigil lasts about three hours, full of beauty, candlelight, and tradition but very, very long.  We'll get up and go early Sunday instead.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  Not random really, but just wanted to mention that there is a lot of sadness lately with friends and family.  Cancer, death, sickness, loss of trust and connections...  Life can be hard at times, but when we can lean on our faith and trust in our Lord, the hard times are easier to handle.  I'm praying for so many right now.  Joe and I have a memorial service to attend this afternoon.  Our dinner plans with friends were canceled last Friday due to sickness and hospitalization.  Another friend lost his battle with cancer while several others continue to fight that battle.  I only wish I could do more.

Thanks for your visit today!!  Be blessed!! Peace & hugs.

  1. Keeping you and your friends and family in prayer...yes, I can relate, lost connections, sigh...not to mention not allowing the good Lord in...just so sad.

  2. I am not Catholic, but I love the Easter Vigil. I used to date a Catholic guy and we went every year. I find it so meaningful.

It is so sad that there is so much sickness and death around or so it seems right now. I also have a friend who I am close to and is near death. She is 93 years old and has lived a good long life, but even then it is sad. I've always thought that we were not created to die and that is the glory of Easter. I'll be praying for you and your friends.

    Have a great day today.

  3. Lilies bother me, too! We used to have hundreds of lilies in our Easter worship service but our minister has allergies so now we use hydrangeas - equally beautiful!! I'm so very about all of the loss and sadness in your life right now.

  5. I'm sorry for the sadness and loss in your life right now Terri. Sometimes these things seem to happen all at once. I would love to attend your Easter service. I wish more churches would make a huge and beautiful celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord.

  6. What a great blog this morning. Prayers for those suffering right now, in all ways. I learned a long time ago, one doesnt have to be in a building, at a certain time, to love and worship God. If you miss the Easter vigil, you will still have Him with you and your friends and family. Happy Hump Day dear friend.

  7. Teri, your answers are so good as always. I'm so sorry about all your friends and we are experiencing the same here. So many needs and concerns. May God bless you for your faithful prayers. I can't imagine you being nervous.

  8. Black Eyed Susans are the state flower of Maryland, so naturally I thought I'd grow them there. The very day my lush garden of Susans bloomed, a rabbit came by and ate every single flower. Grrr....I do love them though. They're a happy looking flower. Hope you enjoy your Easter and your company!

  11. Oh, I wish I'd thought to put 'sweat' down for #4! :)))

I"m so sorry to learn your (and Joe's) hearts are heavy. Those quote boxes are really spot-on and comforting.

  12. It was so good to catch up with you again through the Hodgepodge. I'm so sorry you are having so much sadness and turmoil among your family and friends. We all seem to go through those 'valleys' at times.
I love your thoughts on #2.
I hope you and your family/friends have a very happy and blessed Easter.
