For the first time ever, Joe and I missed Easter Sunday Mass. Joe has caught my cold and we both spent the night coughing and blowing. We decided that no one at church would want to be seated near us because the coughing comes on so suddenly and is miserable until it stops. We are doing our best to make sure Tammy and Bruce don't get it. There are sanitizers and wipes in every room. Fortunately, we feel okay. No fever...just the incessant coughing and blowing.
Our Friday started out great! We drove over to Indian Rocks Beach to meet Bruce's sister, Kathy and her wife, Gretchen. They are wintering in St. Pete and it was a great opportunity for them to get together. The reunion was so much fun! Lunch was at PJ's Oyster Bar because Bruce and Kathy love oysters (I refuse to eat them! Yuck!).
I had a grouper sandwich and fries. Joe had shrimp. Delicious!
When we got back to Lakeland, the 'boys' decided to watch some TV while Tammy and I went to Sam's Club for a few things. On the way home from there, my back right tire blew! It went fast and we still don't know what happened, but the tire looked like someone stabbed it with a knife. We were stranded about a half mile from home, but Tammy's van was behind Joe's car, so they couldn't rescue us. As I was calling AAA to come to our rescue, two young men stopped and asked if they could help. We accepted and they proceeded to swap the flat for my donut spare. We were back on the road in 20 minutes. Richard and Fernando were probably in their low 20s, were perfect gentlemen and would not accept the $20 I offered. They did say I could do a "shout-out" on Facebook, which I did. God bless them! My sister said they stopped to help because we are so 'hot'. I laughed and said no, it's because we remind them of their grandmothers! LOL
Joe and I had to go to Walmart Saturday morning for two new tires. Not how we wanted to spend our morning, but it was necessary. When we got back home, Tammy wanted to go to the Salvation Army thrift store and then we went to Publix for the rest of our Easter dinner.
Sunday, Joe and I had every intention of going to 8:00 a.m. Mass, but I explained that above. I got the ham in the oven to start warming (spiral sliced) and started some baked beans. The rest of our meal was cold salads from Publix. Potato salad, pasta salad, carrot salad, sweet cole slaw and a marshmallow sweet fruit salad. Helen and Cheryl brought a berry pie, a chocolate cream pie, and lemon meringue pie. We did not push away from the table hungry. The Easter Bunny also left baskets of goodies for everyone.
We praised God with thanksgiving for the gift of His Son and for our salvation.
I have today off, so will be doing laundry and cleaning up after company. It has been a great weekend.
Thanks for your visit!! Peace & hugs!!

Awww....bless those two young men. smiles
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had a wonderful weekend, besides being sick---tis the time of the year, spring time. I hope you both get to feeling better.
That was very nice of those 2 guys to help you out.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a nice Easter. Grouper sandwich sounds yummy. Hope you + Joe feel better soon.
Bless your hearts....so sorry you are both coughing. I think the pollen in the air is no help either. So glad some knights in shining armor stopped to help you out. It is good to know there are still kind young people. Sounds like you had a good weekend in spite of the set backs.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed all your pictures, looks like a good time was had by all. Hope you and Joe feel better.
ReplyDeleteEven tho you two were coughing your heads off, it sounds like a good holiday all around. Sure hope you both are better soon. Glad you have the day off to play catch up.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you all were safe with the tire... & so laughed that they just wanted a "FB SHOUT OUT" - I love that.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a marvelous weekend. Except for the colds. It terrifies me when a tire blows out. We had that happen about 3 weeks ago. Too sweet of those fellas to stop and help. I love how you did Easter dinner. I might have to do that next year if the girls will let me change the menu. LOL
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have a day off after a weekend of celebration and company. What a bummer to miss Easter services, but you were right to stay home. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Hope joe gets well soon. That was such a nice thing to have help with the tire. God was watching out for you.
ReplyDeleteOysters aside (double yuck!), you all look so happy at PJ's. I don't remember that spot, but would kill for a grouper sandwich again someday.
ReplyDeleteBlow-outs ... rather the potential for one, scare me to pieces. Thank goodness, chivalry's not dead!
PS - Get well, Joe!!!
Do hope your hubby is feeling better now. So glad it didn't keep you all from having a good visit with your family and friends. Looks like it was a wonderful weekend, in spite of the oysters! LOL. I don't like them either! How wonderful that God provided His sweet angels to come to your assistance on the road! Maybe that is why they turned down the $$...they really ARE angels in disguise, and what would they do with the money? LOL. Anyway...God sent them, one way or the other. Great story. God bless you all and get well soon!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a wonderful weekend, in spite of the coughing and nose-blowing!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had such a nice weekend. Bruce is looking good.
ReplyDeleteI saw your FB shoutout. Those young men were a blessing!
And there's so many complaints about the youth of today! What sweet young men. Glad you had a good Easter weekend. So sorry you both have the crud, though.
ReplyDeleteI had that wicked cough/cold thing for a solid three weeks. Even then it wasn't completely gone, but the worst of it was over. So glad for good samaritans and that you had a happy Easter day too!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun and eventful weekend. Praise God for His protection and provision in the tire-blowout!! And yes, it is great to see Bruce looking so well. He and his sister really look alike!
