We had a good weekend. Saturday morning, we got up and headed downtown for the Farmers' Market and the annual garden show in our lovely Munn Park. There were to be 40-50 vendors there with plants and garden-related items.
Months ago we tore out all of the shrubs and plants from the front of our house, to make it easier to paint the house. If you follow my posts, you know that I don't like yard work, have no luck nor interest in plants and that I actually got used to the bare look in our yard. Just to clarify, I DO like the yard to look nice and I love seeing how beautiful other people's yards are. I just don't want to have to do anything in the yard. The red, white and blue windsock has been decoration enough for me!
We walked through the Farmers' Market first, then walked through the garden show.
We found some plants we liked and approached the owner of 3 Seasons Growers. We showed him the picture of our bare bed (above) and asked if he could help us. He took out a piece of paper, sketched in a plan and then showed us the plants he thought we needed. We were amazed at how fast he solved our problem. We accepted his suggestions, paid him and went to get the car. When we made it back, he had all of the plants sitting by the curb and helped us load them, then offered to answer any questions we might have. His business is in the next town over from us, called Plant City. Seriously, Plant City.
When we got home, we unloaded the plants and placed them as indicated on the diagram he drew for us.
Please don't ask what kind of plants we got. I don't remember what they are called and really don't care. I just want them to grow well, fill out and look nice. His diagram had abbreviations on it, so I don't have the full names. Ti.... Cal.... and Orange... then there is Blue something and some kind of lily something.
We worked Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning to get them all planted. Poor Joe had to do most of the work since I can't get down on my knees. I was the go-for and the picker-upper.
Now we just have to water them every day for a week, then just a couple of times a week for awhile. I think it will all look quite nice once we get the new mulch added and the plants take hold and start growing in. I'll share another picture when we get the mulch, in a week or so.
Our big project is nearly done and it feels good. I wish you a good week ahead, and thank you for stopping by today! Peace & hugs.

Love them...and can I say something without sounding odd--I would know this--eerily-- that is my dad standing in the second picture holding onto to the pole. Yep...I will ask him on Friday when I call for his birthday. Even my son goes, uh, there's Grandpa...yep. Just plum odd. They still reside in Ocala.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful day Terri. Thanks for the smiles. Blessings
The planting looks great - it's nice to have a sketch to follow and an expert opinion!
ReplyDeleteMy sister and brother-in-law are in Plant City and also Lakeland when they come to Florida. I'll let you know when their next visit is. My brother-in-law's mother has a house in Florida (I think near Tampa), but she spends summers in Ohio. Your landscaping looks good. I'll bet you get lots of comments on your new look.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to meet your sister and BIL!! Coffee or lunch in downtown Lakeland would be great! Keep me posted Brenda.
DeleteAs I get older I really don't want to do outside work of any kind. The heat and bugs.....yuck. I didn't do anything with our yard this year and it shows. oh well. lol Can't wait to see how your plants look in a few weeks. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAnother thing (among so many) we have in common. I like the yard and around to look nice, but I dont want to do anything to make it happen. I keep the porch swept, and that is my contribution to yard work! I think what you found looks very nice and as it grows and gets a little thicker, it will be just fine and no upkeep. Hope your Monday is good and goes by fast!
ReplyDeletePlants certainly make a difference. They look very nice. I love plants and gardening, but the soil where we live now is hard clay and I HATE trying to work with it. It's nice to be able to have someone else figure it out and plant things that are low maintenance. Plus, it is just more difficult as we get older to take care of everything and I don't like dealing with chiggers. You probably have never had that problem there. ;-)

No chiggers here, but I know of what you speak...I'm from Ohio. We do have many, many bugs, lizards and snakes, though. I'd almost rather have chiggers! LOL
DeleteWhat a productive weekend! Everything looks great! How did your knees hold out?
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely and as the plants grow and spread it will get better and better :)
ReplyDeleteThe landscaping looks marvelous!!! Our daughter Lisa LOVES doing that kind of work. She calls landscaping in 90-degree heat her "other yoga"!!! I have no idea how she can be my daughter, hahaha!! She was definitely meant to live in Florida.
ReplyDeleteOh, that looks great. Love those special finds at the weekend Markets. Good job, Joe ....Lee can empathize with you :)
