Straight Up
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Straight Up (1988)
1) In this song, Paula sings about being in a dream. Did you dream last night? I think all of us dream most nights, but I rarely remember my dreams.
2) When Paula enrolled at California State University, she planned on studying broadcasting and becoming a reporter. Think about your career aspirations when you were 19. Did you follow through and stay on track or, like Paula, did you veer off and find success elsewhere? I wanted to be an art teacher when I was in high school and was enrolled at Ohio University, but at age 19 I was married, instead, and working while my husband went to school on the GI bill. Gave up on my teaching aspirations. Advice to young women everywhere: Never give up on your own dreams for someone else's, even if he is your high school sweetheart and just home from Viet Nam. I DID find success (and love) elsewhere and am quite happy with my life. Everything happens for a reason.

3) For a while, she was a "Laker Girl" and performed at L.A. Laker games. Do you have a favorite NBA team? Nope. I'm not a basketball fan at all. Joe follows the Villanova Wildcats.
4) Paula was once married to Brad Beckerman of Stillhouse Spirits, a company that specializes in whiskey. What's your favorite alcoholic beverage? I don't have a favorite. I drink a glass of red wine now and then and will have a Margarita or Sangria occasionally. I just prefer water or iced tea.
5) Paula has been dancing since age 8 and, as you can see from the video, Paula moves very well in heels. Tell us about your most comfy shoes. Crocs.
6) Paula admits it was her passion for jewelry and that inspired her to design her own line for QVC and Avon. What is your favorite thing to go shopping for? Believe it or not, I am not a shopper. Joe is a better shopper than I am.
7) She advises young girls to "keep the faith and don't lose your gut instinct." How about you? Are you more logical or instinctive? I am a good mix of both, I think. I always follow my instincts, though. A good part of the time, it's your Guardian Angel or God speaking to you!! Pay attention to your gut!
8) In May, Paula traveled to Austria for The Life Ball, a fundraiser to help those afflicted with HIV/AIDS. When is the last time you left the country? 2007, when we went to Italy.
9) Paula Abdul is a spokeswoman for Avon's "Go Check Yourself" campaign for breast health awareness. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Do you know anyone who has been touched by this disease? Oh my, don't we all know someone who has been touched by breast cancer? Yes.
Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Nice to get to know more about you too Terri. Red wine's my favourite ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat questions and answers, mine will be up in a minute or two (or three, wink). Have a beautiful Saturday, Terri.
ReplyDeleteReally like all your answers. Number 7 reminds me of something I've heard about how your gut is your second brain! So true. HOPE you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love my Crocs too. They are so comfy.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
I wanted to be an airline hostess! Yes, I really did, but 'back then' you had to be a certain height, of which I wasnt, so that went by the wayside. I ended up an RN, and also a licensed insurance agent, but the most important job in my life has been being a mother. Anyone who knows me, knows coffee is my drink of choice. Shoes - none! The only time I have been out of the country was on a cruise to the Bahamas. Hope you and Joe have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a shopper either Terri. I'm the kind that is in and out. Get what I need and be gone. Hope you are having a relaxing weekend. Hope Joe is doing better too and on the mend.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your replies to this meme today. You sound like you are feeling better and I hope so. You and Joe have had a tough couple of weeks. Blessings and a restful weekend to you!
ReplyDeleteI think I might have slept a bit last night but don't remember any dreams. I never drink alcohol of any kind when I'm flying though I do like wine and sometimes in summer beer. Maybe it's not the best American beer but I like Purple Haze. I always try to have it in Ohio. I just left the US yesterday, so that's the last time I had travelled out of a country.
