Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 199
1. Besides U.S. Thanksgiving, it's also National Game and Puzzle Week...what game have you played most recently, and who were you with? Have you worked a puzzle of any kind in the past week? We have a home-made board game (by a family friend) that is played with two decks of cards and marbles. We call it Webster, but it is really just Aggravation on steroids. Everyone who plays it, loves it, and it usually comes out when family and friends are at our house. Joe works the jumble puzzle in the newspaper every morning. I'm terrible at puzzles, so rather than feel stupid, I just ignore them! LOL
Grandpa and Lauren, playing Webster. I think that's the last time we had it out.
2. What is one place you were thankful for this year? Our home. So thankful for our home.
3. Take a nap, watch football, go for an after dinner walk, or hit the stores...which ONE is on your must-do list for Thanksgiving day? For those of you playing along who aren't in the US, answer as it relates to any big holiday meal. Since the Eagles are on TV, we will be watching football.
4. Besides Thanksgiving, what's your favorite home cooked meal? You can't beat pot-roast, with potatoes, onions and carrots cooking around it in the oven or crock pot.
5. What product from an infomercial would you most like to own? I haven't seen anything lately that made me want to pick up the phone or go online. Awhile back, though, Joe saw a battery powered blower that he ordered and it really does work. He loves it (and so do I....keeps the leaves out of the garage and from around the front door!). It is called the WORX, and I would recommend it if you have someone in your life who likes to get useful gadgets....
6. Christmas shopping? Have you begun? Finished? Will you shop on Black Friday? How do you feel about stores opening on Thanksgiving Day? What percentage of your Christmas shopping is done online? I have a few things, but we really don't do a lot of shopping anymore. We send money or gift cards, since most of the family are far away. I have never gone out on Black Friday, and think stores should be closed on Thanksgiving Day. I do as much online as possible - all the time.
7. What are you most grateful for that adds beauty to your everyday life? Grateful that we were able to get the outside of the house painted, and all the ugly bushes pulled out. It looks so much better, even with nothing in the beds. Beauty is as beauty does. My life is beautiful. I am blessed, every day.
8. Insert your own random thought here. Why is it, that when you make an appointment with your doctor, so you can be his/her first patient of the day and will presumably be able to get in and out quickly, that you still end up waiting an hour? My appointment yesterday was for 8:00 a.m. I was the second person to sign in, at 7:50. THREE people were taken back before they called me for x-rays (which I was not expecting). I got x-rays at 8:25, was taken to a room in the back at 8:50 and finally saw (not the doctor, but the PA) at 9:00. And that's another beef I have. I have to pay a bigger co-pay with my health insurance, to see a specialist, but rarely do I really see a specialist. I see the PA (physician assistant) instead. Maybe any of you who were or are nurses or medical technicians can explain this to me so I can stop being so aggravated. Grrrrr!!! BUT - I am thankful to have a good health insurance plan through my work, and I am thankful for a car that took me safely to the next town for my appointment. Perhaps those elderly people who went ahead of me had a more pressing need.... but I am thankful, and need to work on having patience. As my Joe says, though....doctors have patience, not accountants! LOL
Happy Wednesday Hodgepodge!! Thanks for stopping by, and many thanks to Joyce for another fun meme!! Peace & blessings!

Oh I remember one yearly exam with my cardiologist ...I was the 1st patient....thinking I would be in and out within an hour....pshaw!! Wrong!! The doctor was in a meeting...and naturally, it went into extra innings. I wasn't seen until nearly 9 a.m. I was so P O'd.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna have to check this blower thingie out. Something for Christmas for Bud maybe? Thanks for the tip.
It is aggravating to wait so long, when you're one of the first ones there, but like you say there may have been something more pressing. We'll be watching the Eagles too. Going to our neighbors house who are big Patriot fans, so not sure who they will want to root for less-Eagles or Cowboys : ) Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had the answer to your question as to why when you are scheduled to be the first patient seen that day, you still wait 1-2 hours. It is aggravating and the scheduler should do a better job...leave enough time in between people, etc. As for seeing the PA, I have no problem with that...some are better than the DR. I like that leaf blower and would order in a second, but we already have one, albeit an electrical, heavy duty one...:( Enjoy the day and in advance, have a wonderful day tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind seeing the PA and agree with you that they are oftentimes more perceptive than the doctor. I just have a problem paying for a specialist, when I see a PA instead. I'm sure the doctor reviews the paperwork and has to sign off - it just feels like I am not getting what I pay for. I pay to see my general practitioner, a lower copay, and get to see her! Go figure.
DeleteMy last trip to Dr I waited over a hour in waiting room. Then another half hour in exam room waiting to see Dr. So frustrating.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Hi Terri, I had my physical yesterday (first appt. of day) and STILL it was a long morning! oh well!
ReplyDeleteWishing you guys a blessed Thanksgiving!
Ugh, don't even get me going on dr's! Liam's dr. just called and the INSURANCE CO is demanding a physical get done this Friday. For whatever reason for, no one knows, as he has regular appt.s because of his asthma and heart condition. ANYWAYS--Loved your answers, HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Blessings
ReplyDeleteI can't stand waiting for appointments. My brother-in-law was waiting about 5 hours I think this summer, but I think they'd forgotten about him. Needless to say, they're understaffed.
ReplyDeleteI think it's so funny that we don't celebrate Thanksgiving yet we have Black Friday. I really think shops should be closed on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. I hope to get a few more Christmas presents soon too.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving holidays.
I like pot roast, too, but BBQ chicken and corn on the cob is my all time fave. We definitely will be watching football tomorrow.....We've gotten most of our shopping finished. Maybe watch a movie on Amazon in the evening. Its our anniversary, so plan to hang close to home and reflect on our blessings.
ReplyDeleteI think you need to call the office and ask a few questions. Our Dr does have to oversee the PA, but it's a lesser charge. Also, it seems they have a scheduling problem!
ReplyDeleteThat blower looks like a nice one!
I have noticed the same problem. I always tried to schedule the first appointment so I wouldn't miss too much work. The last time I had an early appointment, I was so stressed out by the traffic and trying to be there on time, only to have to wait. They took other people ahead of me. I said I will not do that again.
ReplyDeleteI am with you on the puzzle thing, home was my answer as my favorite place, and pot roast was the meal!!!
Hope you have a grand Thanksgiving with all your family.
How annoying! I hate waiting for the dr., but then to not even see the dr. would be extremely aggravating!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Thanksgiving!
