Memory Monday is here....

Join us in this new meme by visiting Retired Not Tired HERE and posting your link!  Today's memory subject is to write about your FIRST FRIEND.

I have to say that my first friends were my cousins.  I have wonderful cousins and we all grew up together, enjoying the holidays, weekend get-aways, and Sunday dinners....

Bob, me, Pam and Jim (my Willman cousins)

Tom, Peggy, me and Aunt Phyllis (my Kelly cousins)

Lana and Vicki (my Kentucky Willman cousins), Bob and me.

Cousins are such a blessing in my life.  But, I think we are supposed to talk about the first "real" friend we remember, and that would be Linda Mallow. We were in first, second and third grades. She lived in the neighborhood, and is the first 'girlfriend' I remember having. As a matter of fact, in this picture from second grade, she is wearing a dress that matched one I had. Look alike dresses! It was bright red, with white lace and a balloon hemline. It would sure be fun to find Linda again. We lost touch after third grade. I don't know if she moved away, or if our school district changed, but I got bused to a new school for fourth grade, and she didn't go there.  I don't remember much more about that.

There were other friends I remember. Dee Ann Dennan, Patty Gormley, Elizabeth Sowers, Susan Eastman (I think that's right), but Linda and I had look-alike dresses!

Do you remember your first real friend?  I look forward to hearing about it.

I have to mention that today would have been my dear dad's 88th birthday, and I'm remembering him with love.  Thanks for stopping by! I wish you a good week ahead. Peace & blessings!

  1. I'm glad you're having good memories of your Dad today.
I have lots of cousins who were my first friends too. I also have lost touch with my first real friends.

  2. Sweet Terri I always so enjoy your pictures from the past. Aren't cousins just great? I have cousins that are more like sisters and brothers than cousins to me. Hugs

  3. I really dont remember my very first girlfriend. My past is locked up somewhere in my mind and try as I might, I cant get it to come forward. I will say that I am in contact with a friend from Jr. High. She found me on Facebook, and we have been talking ever since. She remembers everything - I remember very little. Good memories about your Dad today.

  5. The 1st friend that I remember was Sue in 3rd grade. In 5th grade we were in different classes so we didn't see each other and we lost touch.

  6. Teri, I too thought about other first friends, such as my cousins, and then the first "real friend" but had to choose my friend BJ because she was technically the first friend of mine outside the family. You reminded me of one of my little friends in grade school and my cousin Charlene. My Mom made us outfits alike. I may go back later to include pics of my cousin and that friend.
Happy birthday memories of your Dad today. I'm sure you think of him every day, but today is special.

  7. Hi Terri, First 'real' friend, huh? Well---I have several and don't remember many of them being the first one. There's Ann--who always loved to sit and read comic books, when I wanted to go outside and play. Then there's Susan--who was a great friend all of our lives until she died a few years ago from cancer... But--I guess my 'best' friend back then was Reida... She also died a year ago and I really miss her too....

Since my family was a small family--I didn't have many cousins around. I do have a couple of cousins I keep up with now. One is Bonnie and one is Ellen...

That's about it when it comes to those special friends from years ago...

I know you are thinking of your Dad today.. Prayers for you.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  8. That is awesome that your cousins were your friends. Sounds like some wonderful memories. Nice that you had Linda as a friend for a few years. It would be awesome if you could connect with her.

  9. Great cousin pictures! My mother was an only child and I got only 3 boy cousins (far, far away and younger, too) on my dad's side. But I have a great sister!

  10. My first friends were my cousins too. Most of the people I'm connected to on facebook are family. I come from a large family as do most of my cousins. I enjoy seeing all your old photos. I wish I had more photos, but I do have a couple of CD's with old photos.

  11. I lived across the street from my dad's sister and her four kids. We had a great time together- for the most part. I can remember a few times that weren't so great but I try not to let those ruin all the good ones.

  14. I don't have time to write about her, but my first friend was also my first experience with deep grief. She died unexpectedly after a heart surgery at the age of 19. Even all these years later, I can't think of her without tears.
