Good-bye October and hello November! It's time for Saturday 9:
Welcome
to My Nightmare
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed
to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the
post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally
unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We
encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we
don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however,
and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Welcome to My Nightmare (1975)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Tell us about a bad dream you've had. I rarely remember my dreams, and can't think of any bad ones. I guess that's a good thing!
2) Sam is not crazy about spiders. What frightens you, or gives you "the creeps?" Roaches. I can't stand seeing a roach in the house. We have good pest control down here in Florida (you have to have good pest control in Florida!), so I rarely see bugs in the house, of any kind. Once a year with BioTech, and the stuff they use doesn't hurt pets or humans - it works!
3) This week's featured artist, Alice Cooper, has always liked to dress up. Performing as Alice, he wears garish eye makeup. In his first group, he and his band mates dressed as the Beatles. Will you be wearing a costume this weekend? Nope.
4) Alice says his makeup was inspired by Bette Davis in his favorite horror movie, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? This Halloween weekend, will you seek out horror movies and scary TV shows, or will you avoid them? I don't go for the bloody Halloween movies that are more gore than anything. However, if you've never seen Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, you should look for it. Now that is one creepy movie!
5) Born Vincent Furnier, Alice used to tell reporters that he and his band got the name Alice Cooper from a Oujia board. Have you ever tried a Oujia board? Years and years ago, at a slumber party. It was hogwash, but I refuse to have one in the house - just because.
6) Alice and his band (also called Alice Cooper) were discovered by music manager Shep Gordon while playing in Venice, California. Have you ever visited Venice, California or Venice, Italy? I've never been anywhere in California, but have been to Venice, Italy. Loved it!!
7) In 1970s England, a morality campaigner named Mary Whitehouse persuaded the BBC to ban Alice Cooper. The ensuing publicity resulted in such a bump in record sales that Alice sent Ms. Whitehouse flowers. Do you believe in censorship? Or should adults be able to choose to see/hear whatever they wish? I think adults should be able to see/hear whatever they wish. Censorship just results in bigger sales and more celebrity anyway. If you don't like it, don't watch it or listen to it or read it. Simple as that. Joe recalls his days as a youngster, being raised in the Catholic faith...the Priest would post a list of banned books on the bulletin board in the back of the church. All the kids made notes so they could be sure to read those books. So silly. This subject could make a week's worth of posts, so I'll stop now.
8) Today Alice has a popular syndicated radio show, Nights with Alice Cooper. Listeners all over the United States, Germany, Denmark, New Zealand, and the UK hear him introduced as, "a man for whom even Dr. Phil has no cure." Do you watch Dr. Phil? No. I don't watch any of the shows like that, and even avoid Oprah now.

9) Did you get many trick or treaters this year? What candy did you give them? We don't participate any more. The lights are turned off, and we don't answer the door. Bah humbug.

So happy the weekend is here!! Wishing you a good one! Peace & blessings!

I dont or didnt listen to Alice Cooper, whoever that is or was. Didnt dress up and only had 2 tricksters. After they left, we locked up and went to bed. Ants and roaches......ughhhh
ReplyDeleteI grew up listening to Alice Cooper. We haven't given out candy for the last few years. My son still trick or treats even though I think he is too old. He goes to another neighborhood with a group of friends. He still enjoys it.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
I loved Alice Cooper and even saw them in concert. I agree that banning something makes it much more attractive, and some books that have been banned at one time or other and in one place or another are some of my favourites like Vonnegut and Faulkner's. I also think I'd like to tune in to that programme with Alice Cooper just to see what it's like.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't much of a music lover in 1979 so I do not know much about Alice Cooper. But when I click on the link given here, I was intrigued because I thought he was a woman. so I went on reading to find out why he called himself Alice, although I still do not understand how the name coould come out of a ouija board
ReplyDeleteThis is the 1st time in decades that we had trick-or-treaters....I loved it! We've lived in the country most of our lives, so we didn't get anyone coming by. This year we ran out of candy and had to turn out the light. It was wonderful seeing the little guys, so cute.
ReplyDeleteI have never liked Alice. From day one, he gives me a very uneasy feeling. And the noise he creates is NOT music.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch Dr. Phil (or Oprah) anymore either.
We didn't participate in Halloween T-or-T either, kept the lights off this year too for the first time.
I am with you those big Palmento roaches or wood roaches - YUCK!
