No Monday Quiz About Me....

I've been waiting to see the questions offered for the Monday Quiz About Me, but just found out they have posted a hiatus until next week. So, what to write....

Another friend posted a list of 10 names she would rather be named, than her 'real' name. I found that interesting, only because I have always had a love/hate relationship with my name.

My "real" name is Teresa. No one else in my entire genealogy, going back a dozen generations, was named Teresa.  My middle name is Lee, after my maternal great grandmother. At least I have one historic name to claim! I asked my mom once, how she came up with Teresa (which does not suit me!) and she couldn't remember. It was not after anyone special, and might have been from a baby name list.  She DID tell me that they thought (were hoping) that I would be a boy (first born) and had Paul picked out for a boy's name, after my dad's favorite uncle. So, when I came out a girl (smiling), Dad wanted to call me Paula, after his favorite uncle. Mom said no to that, because the next baby might be a boy (and was, 3 years later) and he should be called Paul.

Ever since then, I have secretly coveted the name Paula. I think it suits me, and I loved Uncle Paul and Aunt Emma. I could easily be a Paula. I like it.  I also love the name Miranda. Doesn't that name just roll off the tongue so smoothly? Miranda. Had I been blessed with a baby girl, that would have been her name. I have resisted naming one of our cats Miranda. Just doesn't seem right. (Smiling again.)

I'm glad that Teresa morphed into Terri. I was only called Teresa by my Granny Kelly, my teachers on the first day of school, and my folks when they were angry with me (not often!).  I can live with Terri.... By the way, my siblings all got that "real" name and then a nick-name. Patricia is Patti, Tamara is Tammy, and my brother was Paul Randall - Randy (see, he didn't even use Paul...I could have been Paula!!).

So, a person, by any other name.... Do you have a secret name you wished was yours? Tell me about it on this Monday without a Quiz About Me!!  Thanks for stopping by! Peace, love & hugs.

  1. When I was young, I wished for a cute, sporty name....maybe Buffy or Candy!!!!! No one could ever remember my name because it was old fashioned. I have been called Myrtle, Mathilda etc. because folks can't remember Mildred!
John calls me Missy for short and kinda like that!!!!!

  2. I like Terri....maybe because that is all I have known you as...I cant think of any other name I would have rather had...Linda is just me. My middle name is Stayton, which was my grandmother's maiden name, is my first born's middle name, Leigh Stayton and now her daughter's first name is Stayton Grayce. We are carrying the family on with this name.

  3. Well..I was called Jennifer Lynn, my dad was in Vietnam and when he found out my mom had the baby, he insisted it be changed to Linda Marie, after the nurse who saved him (he had been shot down). It pretty much took an act of congress to get my birth certificate changed. No kidding. So, I have always been called Linda, my besties in school called me Lin Lin or Lou. My grand nieces call me Lala. I like Lala. lol

  5. My legal name is Julia but my family wound up calling me Julie. I've always liked my name, both of them - I tried to go by Julia for a while as an adult but it didn't seem to stick. It does get confusing sometimes when I must sign Julia and when people say my name it's Julie. I felt the name always suited me. I was named for my great-grandfather on my mother's side (her fathers father). Moms cousin always wanted a girl to name Julia but had only boys and when my mom had a girl and used the name her cousin was furious..never forgave her.

  6. My name is Connie Jeanette. I wanted to go by Jeannie, but it just never worked out. All the relatives called me Connie Jean, and still do. In high school, I wrote my name as Coni because it was so much cuter than Connie, especially with a little heart over the i. So, now as I am older, I have come to appreciate the name Connie and what it means.

Had I ever been able to have a child,mi wanted her name to be Alison Elizabeth. I love the name Elizabeth, and there were so many nicknames possible coming from that name. Now? My husband calls me Connie-Wonnie-Bonnie-Fonnie and usually just Connie-Wonnie. I'm good with that. And, finally, I like your name, Teri.

    1. Sorry about the typo above - it should be I wanted, not mi. Ugh.

  7. Terri / Teresa is a lovely name. I looked it up. It's French and means "harvest". That's something to be proud of. When I was a young girl, I fancied Samantha, to be shortened to "Sam". Now that I'm older, I wouldn't mind changing my maiden name. (One can, you know, I used to handle that with the State of Florida before I became an Accountant. All you need is a lawyer.) Other than that, I'm happy with my moniker.

  8. When my brother James was little - he's called Jim now though he's still a James to some of us - he couldn't pronounce my name so he called me NaNa. My oldest nephew had the same problem and he called me Aunt Bean, which I go by sometimes. In Spanish the name Maria Teresa is shortened to Maite (my tey).

  9. My name is Ruth Arlene....the casino has me as Rutharlene ...all run together. I have never liked the name Ruth. My husband wanted to name my second daughter Ruth...we compromised and named her Arlene. I don't have a favorite name but when I was young and single and went out to party we always made up fake names to tell the guys. Seems silly now..lol.

  10. I have a sister named Terri (middle name Lynne) and a friend named Teresa. I do like Paula too, but I think Terri is good for you. My mom wanted to name me Melody, but I'm glad my Dad won out, because that doesn't fit me, I don't think. My real name is Maribeth, but I go by Mari, which is pronounced Mary.

  11. My name is Kimberly, which is horrible and way too long so I go by Kim. Which is short and sweet just like me lol

  13. I could totally see you as a Paula! But I'm fond of Teresa and Terri. Lindsay's middle name is Theresa, after my mother in-law who's middle name is Theresa. I like my name but the only thing that bugs me is that I always have to tell people that I spell it with a K.

  14. I have had three friends named Theresa but only one of them was called that. When I think of Terri or Teri or Terrie, my mind smiles cuz they have good connotations. I was supposed to be named Judy but ended up Lynda after my grandmother, Lydia. She helped my parents with my care a lot the first year. When I was younger, I may have thought about other names but once I learned that Linda meant pretty in Spanish, I guess I liked it more. My middle name is Gail - - was never too crazy about it. Just didn't sound melodic to say, "Lynda Gail". However it has good meanings, too.
