Wednesday's Hodgepodge!

For the weekly Hodgepodge questions, visit Joyce at http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com
Thank you Joyce!!

1. The USA will mark Columbus Day this year on Monday, October 14th. What's something you need or want to explore (literally or metaphorically speaking)?  Literally, my exploring days are behind me, I think, though I do enjoy day trips to new locations, especially if a new restaurant is included!  Metaphorically...in my mind I explore lots of things that will never come to fruition!

2. The Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz, Ursula from The Little Mermaid, or Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty...who do you most love to hate?  Definitely the Wicked Witch of the West.  The Wizard of Oz was my all-time favorite movie when I was growing up, and she terrified me with her wickedness!  “I’ll get you my pretty and your little dog too!”  still makes me shiver in fear!!

3. Is open-mindedness a virtue?  Most assuredly!  Times and things change so quickly these days. We have to have an open-mind to keep up!!

4. How often do you weigh yourself?  Weekly.  That’s all I’ll say about that.

5. This question comes to you courtesy of Rebecca over at Making Memories, so thanks Rebecca!

Costa Rica was recently named the happiest country in the world on the Happy Planet Index. What's the happiest country in the world to you, and what makes it so?   I want very much to say the USA, but because of our current government, I am not happy with how things are going. I can’t imagine living anywhere else, though my heart is breaking.  We were very happy when visiting Italy – that was a very happy vacation!

6. Besides The Bible, what is one book you think should be mandatory reading for high school students? Why?  1984’, by George Orwell.  We are finally living in his perceived world, written in 1949. Check it out here:   1984  (More scary than the Wicked Witch of the West.)

7. I went shopping at some nearby outlets last week, and while I was there, I picked up a couple of Christmas gifts. How about you? Have you started your holiday shopping yet?  I’ve picked up a couple of small things, and have dog-eared some catalog pages. I also have a couple of links on my desktop, to revisit.  My Christmas cards were ordered and arrived in my mailbox a couple of months ago, though!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  My heart is breaking over the mess in Washington.  I stand behind my conservative views that a smaller federal government is a better federal government.  Too much has been taken away from our individual State governments, and now our individual rights are also being compromised. We must get back to our constitution. It works for us.  I'm praying.

And on that note, I'll wish you a good Wednesday! Hump Day it is!  Peace, love & hugs (and prayers).

  1. Do you know that I've never read 1984? I should put that on my list!
Don't all of us from the USA want to say our own country? I really wish Washington would get their act together. It's starting to get scary.

  3. I've never read 1984 either. I should check into it! I'm with you on the concerns for our country.
I've got about 1/2 of my shopping done. I'm always on the lookout for gifts.

  4. I think I was most terrified of Malificent when I first encountered her and those scary thorn trees she created around the prince when he was trying to rescue Aurora, but then the Wicked Witch was scary with that cackly voice. I think, though, I was most terrified of her flying monkeys and that music that accompanied them. Eeeeeeeeee!.

And your adventures, Terri, are meeting blogging friends. I think that qualifies as adventurous! ;-)

Hope all is well. Trying to blog and see how my hand holds up. Wrote my first post in months, but I had to wait to use Fred's computer to upload the pics. So far so good. ;-)

    Love you...

    Sheila

    1. Thanks, Sheila! I guess meeting my blogging friends IS an adventure, and I'm glad that journey led to you last summer!

  5. Good answers and very similar to my thoughts regarding the Wicked Witch, Oz, and our government. I did read 1984 many years ago ... It was scary then, and even more scary now.

Although I do like visiting new places, I really prefer staying close to home these days.

  6. We are trying to get in as much travel as we can before we have to stay put.

  7. As always, I enjoyed reading your answers.

I just realized that I was going to buy Christmas cards when I was in the US, but, of course, didn't. Actually I didn't go out shopping very much this time. I told my sister she was my personal shopper, because she bought me some underwear at Victoria's Secret one day. Most of my Christmas presents will be things I make, so I hope I have time.

  8. I agree on #8 ! I have the similar views as you do. Hopefully they'll get this turned around. I am hoping for a Republican president in '16! Though i shouldn't say anymore..
    I love the Halloween decor!

  9. I enjoyed reading your responses but am too lazy after going out to a Taize meeting to add any of my own. We are worrying about the backlash that will hit us in Canada from your government shutdown. They are all starting to look like bullies on a power trip, and be damned to the little guy.

    1. Karyn, 'bullies on a power trip' just about sums it up - for ALL politicians these days. It's a power trip and they don't care about people at all. Our patriot founding fathers are rolling in their graves.

  10. You only weigh once a week - maybe that is my problem. And I agree with you about George Orwell's book - 1984!
