1. Picture postcards were first printed back in the
mid-1800's and deltiology is the official name for postcard collecting. When
did you last send a postcard? Receive one? Do you save postcards sent to
you? Do you collect and/or send postcards when you travel? I haven’t sent a
postcard in years, but we did just receive one from Joe’s cousin, who lives in
Italy. I do not send postcards when we
travel, just because we only travel to see the people we would be sending cards
to!! When we went to Italy, we would
have beaten the mail back, so we just brought souvenirs home with us to give to
people.
2. What treat do you most like to indulge in while on vacation? It is only a vacation, in my estimate, if I stay in a hotel, and someone else makes the beds, picks up dirty towels, and I get three meals out in a restaurant, with no dishes to wash. We also like to shop when we travel, and rarely do at home (except for necessities) , so I guess eating and shopping would be the greatest indulgence.
3. Are you good at hiding your feelings? Nope. My face and eyes give me away all the time, so I don’t even try to hide my feelings anymore.
4. Does your town/city/county still deliver telephone books to your home? Do you check the yellow pages when searching for a local business number or has the internet replaced the phone book in your home? We haven’t received a phone book in a long, long time, and even when we did, it is easier to do a quick search on the internet.
5. Would you rather be first or last? I am always happy being last. I don’t like being the center of attention, I don’t care about winning, and I would rather put others first.
6. July is National Park and Recreation Month (in America, but everyone can still play along)...where and when were you last in a park? Did you participate in any recreational activities while you were there? We have lots of parks here in Lakeland, and the last time I was actually in one was in May, during our local art festival, which takes place in two parks. I don’t participate in any recreational activities, whether I’m in a park or someplace else. That’s terrible, isn’t it!
7. What was one of your worst ideas? Selling Avon, and later Mary Kay. I am not a home-party kind of person, and ended up only buying for myself and gifts for others. Sales is not one of my strengths.
8. Insert your own random thought here. A church I pass on my way to work each morning has a sign out front that (this week) says "If Jesus knocked on your door today, would you let him in?" I've been thinking about that all week. In this day and age, would anyone let a stranger into your house without some kind of identification? Would Jesus return to us, looking like all the pictures we see that portray Him with long brown curls, a beard and gentle eyes? What would he look like, dressed as we dress today? How will we know who He is when He returns? What are your thoughts about this? I really want to know.

On the phone books...we get about 6 every year. I don't know why. Some are from our phone company (Verizon) and some are from a company called Yellow Book (I think that's what it is called). Some are big like regular phone books and some are small. Some have only businesses in them. As far as I can tell they have the same stuff in them. I never use them but I feel obligated to keep them. I do feel bad for the recycle people when everyone gets rid of all their old ones at the same time. Those recycle cans must be much heavier than normal.
ReplyDeleteWe used to have a separate recycle day for phone books, Kim, but now that we don't really get them anymore, it doesn't matter, I guess.
DeleteSales are not my thing either! My hubs is a born salesman so I always let him do any negotiating.
ReplyDeleteInteresting question-I never answer my door, unless I know the person on the other side. I hope I'd recognize Jesus : )
Me, too, Joyce! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteHi, Terri! Nice to "meet" you...I'm your newest follower! Glad you're joining in Hodgepodge with us! I love to do a little shopping on vacation, too. I really enjoy looking for artsy trinkets for our home. Stuff out of the ordinary. I think I'll know when Jesus returns because He's my Savior and there will be no questions, for me, as to His identity.
ReplyDeleteApril, that's how my thoughts were going, too. Hopefully Christians will feel Him in our hearts and will know it is Him! Welcome!
DeleteSales aren't my thing either! My latest was allowing someone to host a Partylite party at our house. Loooong evening that I hope I won't be repeating anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteI know! I tell people to just give me the book and I'll order (but please don't make me sit through a "party"!!).
DeleteI havent started participating in Hodgepodge but do enjoy reading everyone's answers. I prefer to be last...not a saleswoman at all. As you know, I am now sending and receiving post cards and enjoying it just like the old days. We do still get the phone books, but I look everything up on the internet these days. Hugs to you on this Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteWe really are soul sisters, Linda! Hugs back to you on this Wednesday!
DeleteI have given many of those parties and always felt bad about inviting anyone because I didn't want them to feel obligated to buy. But on the other hand, I was trying to do someone a favor by giving the party. I've learned to say no to the party and look at the catalog.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of Jesus as to His appearance now, I think of Him as described in the book of Revelation, and that I will recognize Him at His coming because He said it would be as the lightening flashing and lighting up the sky. I think His appearance will be more glorious than I can imagine.
But, if He were to appear on my street, at my door, dressed as a modern man, I pray that my heart would be open to receive Him and hear what He wanted to say to me and not turn Him away.
Hi Nonnie! Yes, we are certainly told that we will recognize Him, and He us... and that is part of the reason I have been pondering that question on the church's sign. Makes me wonder what the pastor's message will actually be about this Sunday!
DeleteI enjoy shopping too when I'm on holiday. However, I like to cook some dishes that I've collected for my family so I'll know if the recipes are keepers. I don't try a lot of new dishes in my place in the summer because it't too hot. I like winter because cooking helps warm up my little flat. I really don't use the big telephone books we get and wish they would stop publishing them. After all, the print in them is tiny and they occupy needed space.
ReplyDeleteI hope Jesus wouldn't have to knock on my door, but the way I pass people I know on the street without seeing them, I probably would walk on by Him.
I enjoyed your post a lot, Terri. Thanks for sharing another hodgepodge.
I agree, Brenda. I would hope He wouldn't have to knock on my door either!! (I pass people all the time, and don't see them. Terrible at doing that, and get called out for it frequently!)
DeleteI always enjoy your hodgepodge posts. I just posted mine and I see your answers could be mine too. We have a lot of common thoughts and feelings. :) Thanks for sharing these.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good question about Jesus coming to my door. I'd like to think I would know Him at once. He's my Savior and my heart would know Him. As for His second coming, I believe the Bible when it says "For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout..... " (1 Thessalonians 4:16)
Hope you're having a great "hump day". ♥
I will get over to your page soon, Carol! I hope Jesus wouldn't have to knock at my door. I hope that Christians would all hear that shout....
DeleteI am surprised that I didn't already know that you once sold Avon and Mary Kay! I sold Avon too but it wasn't to make money, only to get the discount..lol. We visit state and national parks all the time. We were just at one this past weekend and we enjoyed hiking on the trails. I think I would know Jesus if he knocked on my door. I think there would be some kind of overwhelming feeling of love when I looked into His eyes. Have a wonderful day, Terri!
ReplyDeleteKris, it was YEARS ago, before Yahoo 360 days.
DeleteI would also think there would be an overwhelming feeling if Jesus knocked on my door. Actually, I would hope he would just walk right in - no need to knock, since I have already accepted him into my heart and life!!
Oh, I so understand about home parties! I considered direct sales for about a minute when a friend tried to rope me into her "downline," but I knew better. I am *so* not a sales person.
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca! Thanks for stopping by my page today! The only home parties I've had, that I really enjoyed, were the Pampered Chef parties - everyone gets to eat! LOL
DeleteGreat questions/answers today, Terri. I rarely receive postcards. Maybe when my adult niece/nephew travel abroad!
ReplyDeleteI am always surprised (pleasantly) when I get a real piece of mail (not bills or advertisements)! I'm thinking of joining Postcrossing....
DeleteOh, goodness, what a thought provoking question! Honestly, I would not let a stranger (male or female) into my house if I was home alone. If my hubby was home, I would let him decide ;)
ReplyDeleteHello Veronica. I would not let a stranger in the house either, but would hopefully feel the presence of Christ inside me if it was really Him knocking!
DeleteGood Morning Terri...I love reading your Hodgepodge. Our building gets a pallet of telephone books left in the lobby...it's up to us to pick one up if we want it. I saved my old phone books...silly I know but I actually use them sometimes to find people who have decided not to be published anymore. I have a postcard from my daughter on my frig...I think I will post it later so everyone can enjoy it. She sent it to me several years ago and it's the last one I received. I think Jesus might have a hard time getting into my building...since everyone is suspicious and won't allow strangers in. I'm glad He isn't a stranger to me though. I agree with you about vacations...hotel, meals, shopping all good things. I hope to get to a state park here in Michigan soon...everything has been put on hold here and I guess I need to start making new plans to enjoy myself.
ReplyDeleteAmway was our worst idea!!! Not only did we not make money because we can't pressure anyone into anything but rather let them decide for themselves but then one of their products ruined the finish on a NICE car of one of Bill's co-workers. He called their main office and they did not offer a solution or compensation. It was definitely an awkward and difficult situation.
ReplyDeleteVacation - - I agree with you - - air-conditioned room with a comfortable bed and no cooking!!!
If Jesus were with us as HE was during Biblical times, HE would blend into society since HE did at that time but when HE returns a second time, it will be obvious as others have stated. We Christians will recognize HIM but I am not sure non-Christians will immediately - - - but eventually "every knee will bow and every tongue confess" Him as Lord - - whether they accepted HIM here on Earth or not - - when HE knocked on their heart's door - - probably multiple times. Great post!
Terri I am so like you - I would rather be LAST! It is so much easier. Less pressure. Now the other thing is - I like to vacation like you do! sandie
