Linked In!

I have a Linked In account, and have acquired well over 600 connections there. We are told, as business people, to be involved in social media, and to connect with business associates, for networking purposes, on Linked In.  I enjoy the connections I have there, but I don't pay as much attention to it as I do Facebook and Blogger (and even Pinterest).  And no, I do not personally know over 600 people.  We are connected by being in the non-profit world, or associated with the arts in some way. The networking is good when there is a job opening to post (or you are looking for a job, for instance).

What I find humorous about Linked In is that more and more, my connections are "recommending" me for some of the skills associated with my work experience. I thought it was really nice, in the beginning, but now - people I don't really know are recommending me for skills, and I know they have no idea how skilled I am in certain areas.  A few have recommended me for my training skills. I've never held a training session for anyone (other than one-on-one) and they wouldn't know about it if I did. I just shake my head and chuckle.  Linked In has gone from being meaningful, to just being a silly distraction.

Are any of you on Linked In? Are we connected already? I'll recommend you for any skill you want me to recommend you for! Promise!! :)

Okay - off my rant about Linked In.

My work Friday is nearly over.  Joe and I are going to Sam's Club after work. I have a prescription to pick up, and we (of course) have a list of things to get. I think one of their yummy rotisserie chickens might be in order for our dinner.

Tomorrow, my day will start with a weigh-in at Weight Watchers.  I think this is going to be another disappointing visit, with not much off. I do great one week, then very little.  Sigh.  Our scale is off from theirs, so I don't really know, but I missed last Saturday's weigh-in because we were in Naples. I have been within my points, but not moving much.

I also need to clean the house. The cats are all shedding now, and you can see cat hair all over. With tile in most of the house, it just blows around, then sticks in a corner or up against a piece of furniture. I would be embarrassed if someone knocked on the door and had to come in.  Vacuuming is a must!  After Mass, we have another list to take to Publix, for groceries we can't get at Sam's. It is tomato season in Florida, so I am looking forward to some yummy home-grown tomatoes! And they are zero WW points!

Sunday - laundry and catching up on other things.

We're getting ready to head out on our two-week road trip toward the end of the month. Part of it will be "vacation"....in a hotel, with meals in restaurants and new things to see and do. We are going, though, to see my niece, Kelly, graduate from high school, to visit with my sister(s), nieces, nephew, and my almost 94 year-old grandmother. In between, we will be enjoying Savannah, Georgia, and on the way back, Chattanooga, TN. Hoping to connect with blogging friends along the way. Let me know if you are near. I love meeting blogging friends in person!!  Have already made some tentative plans with Linda and Sandie....at least we have 'talked' about it.  Need to touch base with Tony & Laura, too.  My old boss is also in Chattanooga.  We have a niece in Savannah, going to Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). Not sure if she will still be there, or if classes will have ended. I messaged her earlier today, to inquire about it.

Our granddaughter, Lauren, was to also be graduating from college during this time, and we were going to Philadelphia for that. Lauren found out, at the last minute (during finals), that she is short one class and they won't let her graduate without it. Plans were made for family, balloons and champagne ordered at a nice restaurant, cap & gown purchased. She is devastated, as are we all. It is a class she can take this summer, which puts graduation in August, with no ceremony until January. She will be going to school in Florida by then, to get her Masters Degree.  Crazy situation that no one, including Lauren, expected. She has changed her major a few times, and has been taking classes accordingly.  This is a public speaking course that would normally have been a 2nd year course.  Just 'one of those things' that we have to experience and move on. At least a new plan is in place and it will all work out.

So, I guess I should stop. Wishing you all a good Friday evening and weekend ahead! Thanks for stopping by! Peace, love & hugs.

  1. That's too bad about Lauren's class and graduation.
Hope you and your husband have fun shopping tonight - chicken ready to eat sounds good to me.
As for cats, mine are shedding also. Always something to clean up!

  2. I don't have a cat anymore but I know what you mean. ** Your vacation sounds like it should be fun, I'm disappointed that I couldn't be on your itinerary. What a disappointment about Lauren's class. My grandson has found out some things about college life that we just shook our heads. ** I'm not on Linked In and no, you don't need to recommend me for anything. hehehe ** Good luck on your weigh-in tomorrow.
Hope you have a good weekend. ♥

  4. I don't do any of that other stuff, but I am constantly getting messages via email to link to people on some of those business sites. I just delete them.

If you come through St. Augustine on your way to Savannah, maybe we could do lunch. I have some commitments, but depending on when you will be there, I would love to meet you Teri. I also get down South from time to time. Let me know your date range.

That's a shame about your niece not being able to graduate. That's terrible that they waited to tell her that. How awful! People should know before their last year in school if they can graduate at the big ceremony or not. She could have rearranged her schedule to make it work. I'm sorry. I know that is a blow to her.

    XO,

    Sheila

  6. I get an invite from one of my friends every once in a while for Linkedin, but no I haven't signed up. As for the animal hair, I have a red sweater that must shed because I'm always brushing up red fuzz. It doesn't matter whether or not you have animals the floors still need cleaning, at least mine do. I guess I track in city dirt, like people in the country track in grass and things like that.

Enjoy the graduation and visits with family and friends and say hello to Ohio. I can only imagine how disappointed poor Lauren must feel. Still hopefully she'll have a big bash when she gets her Masters.

  7. I am jealous of the tomatoes! lol We are getting them from Florida, but by the time they get here, they are mush on the inside, although beautiful on the outside! That is a disappointment for Lauren and the family, through no fault of hers and unknowing too. I know you will enjoy your trip and I look forward to your stop here.

  9. I have finally had a couple of extra minutes and read some of the extra stuff on your page. You are almost a year younger than me as my birthday is in January on '51. You are quite an accomplished hard-working person. I like people who don't let grass grow under their feet!
About the WW - - the important thing as you know is to just keep plugging away at it. Add some activity points whenever possible - - even the little things like parking farther away in the parking lot.
Rotisserie chicken - - it is one of the best inventions! I often buy it to add to recipes like soup and stir-fry rather than just eat it as the meal.
And cats - - - we love them, too. I need to see if I can remember all the names of the ones we have had since being married in '76.
I live 25 miles north of Chattanooga but don't know how my schedule will be when you come through. My availability is not free until the afternoon of May 28 - - but since we just met, I can catch you another time. Do what's important on your schedule first.

    1. We will be in Chattanooga on the 28th & 29th, if our schedule doesn't get messed up along the way. Right now, nothing is tied down. I hope we can do a little site seeing around Chattanooga - like Lookout Mountain. Last time we were there, it was too short to see much of anything. If you want to email me your phone number, Lynda, I'll send you mine and maybe we can make it work for us! It would be another 2 years before we head back up that way again. We do Ohio one year, and Pennsylvania, Virginia the next. My family - his family. :) My email is jtdorsaneo@gmail.com if you are comfortable sharing!

  10. I'm on Linked In, but really don't know why, I don't see that it has served to help in any way. I have seen the same - people recommending me for things I don't do LOL! I rarely check in there and haven't done much with my profile page.

Sounds like you're looking forward to a nice trip!
