Throwback Thursday....
A busy weekend is beginning for me, with the Museum's art festival this weekend. It is also our wedding anniversary, on Saturday (28 years), and Mother's Day on Sunday. Our moms are both gone, but I do have a step-grandma still living. She will turn 94 on June 12th, and I look forward to seeing her for a couple of days while we are on our road trip! She and my grandpa were married before I was born, so I grew up with three sets of grandparents, who were all loving and nurturing (and got along!!). She was a 'few' years younger than my grandpa, and that is how I am still blessed to have her in my life.
Anyway, my throwback photo today is of my mom, Helen Louise (Cameron) Kelly. I love this picture of her, taken when she was 12 years old. Not quite a woman yet, but no longer a child. She was 11 when my grandparents divorced, so she was dealing with that at this age. Divorce was not as common or accepted back then (early 1940s) as it is today. I miss my mom every day. We lost her to cancer in 1995. She was only 65 years old.
Wishing you a good Thursday!! Peace, love & hugs.

What a treasure to have that picture of your Mom , especially to have memories of loved ones who nurtured you and cared about you. Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet picture of your Mom. A special weekend is coming up for you, for sure.
ReplyDeleteShe was so cute at that age. It is hard to lose a mother and we miss them every day. ** Wishing you a good weekend and safe travels.
ReplyDeleteTerri, I love that photo of your mom! My mother's parents were divorced in the late 30s or 40s also. My grandma (and my mom) were affected by it all their lives.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful weekend and a great celebration.
Thank you!! I love this photo, too (and her). My grandpa was a bit of a ladies man, and my grandma threw him out (scandal!!). But they all got along, which made our lives much easier as we were growing up and sharing holidays.
DeleteYour mom sounds so much like my own. Her parents divorced when she was more or less the same age. I really miss not remembering her father - my grandpa or papaw. He died when I was about 2. Anyway, I see from the comments that our mothers aren't the only ones whose parents were divorced in the 40's.
ReplyDeleteI'll wish you an early Happy Anniversary, but hope to see you here or on facebook in the next few days. Have you packed yet?
Brenda, I have not packed yet, and the luggage is still in the closet. Have to get through next week - I'll do laundry on Sunday to finish packing, so we can leave bright and early Monday morning! Whew!! LOL
DeleteGreat pic of your Mom. Have a great time at the art festival. Happy Anniversary!
