January 30th: Friday Focus

I can't believe it's another Friday since this cold started, and I'm still coughing and blowing.  Didn't colds used to last a week?  It's been two.  At least I feel okay and am getting my stamina back.

I posted about my lunch with Wendy and Suzette on Wednesday.  We had such a good time!!  It was good medicine for me to get out of the house and spend time with friends.

I had a haircut on Wednesday and then went to Publix (next door to the salon) for a few things.  I still had the bags of clothing from my closet cleanout in the back of my car, so my next stop was the Children's Home donation center.  Whew!  Done and done and done.  I got home and made some vegetable beef soup in the crockpot.  It didn't take long for the house to start smelling really good.  Did I say I could smell!!  YES!

I intended to go to Bible study on Thursday morning, but got a call from Cindy that it was canceled because Pastor Dave had a meeting.  I decided to not go out to eat last night either.  It turned out that no one wanted to go out, so Judy canceled it.  I did some cleaning.  It had been two weeks since I cleaned, and the cat hair was everywhere.  I didn't do much, but the main parts of the house look like someone cares.

That's a good thing, because Cheryl (sunlit pathway) and her hubby, Pat, are coming over, and we are going to lunch at Metro Diner.  I told them we could have some dessert back here at the house.  I have angel food cake, fresh strawberries, and blueberries.  Whipped cream, of course.  One of their sons lives here in Lakeland, so I get to see them a couple of times a year when they are down visiting. Lovely people, and their son has a beautiful family!

Justin and his family were all here, at my house, last spring...

Pat and Cheryl, also here last year...

I have nothing for the weekend, other than church on Sunday.  Another cold front is blowing in on Saturday night and may even bring snow flurries to Lakeland.  That will be the first time since 1977, when 2 inches fell.  I really don't want to see snow!!  We moved to Florida in 1989 to get away from the snow!  Yikes!  It won't stick, and I won't have to shovel, so that's a good thing!  Hoping the snow stays away!

Peace and Hugs!

Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun
And I say, "It's all right."
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes

  1. Oh, I love the Beatles song, "Here Comes the Sun"! And I do hope the sun comes back soon and stays a while!! I think I've had enough of this winter weather! Yes, we are spoiled down here in Florida. My heart goes out to those who are stuck in the snow and ice and slush and deep freeze up north. I am sorry you are still coughing and blowing...but yes, it takes at least two weeks to get rid of that mess...trust me, I know!! I hope you have a good visit with Cheryl and family. I am sorry we couldn't work out some way to get together. Be sure to take a lot of pictures! Your dessert sounds perfect!!!
Take care and don't wear yourself out!! Oh, your vegetable soup sounds great!!!

  5. I'm happy to hear the worst of your 'bug' seems to be waning ... mostly, you won't feel obligated to be out in the Big Chill. Yes, I heard something about Tampa may be getting snow? Unbelievable!
Your soup sounds so good! I was going to do your cabbage-and-sausage stir fry, last night but Tom (wisely) suggested we first eat what's already in the fridge for the next few days.

  6. Back in the 20's this weekend but no snow forecast here, good! It's pretty to look at but causes a big mess. Vegetable soup sounds so good to me, Mr D prefers chicken noodle, so we compromise and just eat something else!! lol Hope you continue to feel better and the lingering cough and blow goes away.

  8. Oh no! So sorry the cold is still hanging around. It sounds like it did you good to get out with your friends. Have a great time with Cheryl and her husband. Eek to the snow, I hope it stays away from you!

  9. Your haircut looks nice. I'm letting mine grow and it's in the scraggly stage. Ugh!
So glad the 'bug' is leaving you or gone. So far we haven't got 'bitten'.
I think y'all may be colder than us in SE Georgia. That's surprising. "They" are predicting high teens for us but it may not happen. Golly, I'm already sick of winter this year. ❤️✝️❤️

  12. I can't believe your cold is lasting so long. Are you taking Vitamin C? I would love to see a little snow myself. :)

  13. Since I live in a state that sees some sort of snow every year from Jan.-Feb. (and sometimes into March), I can add to your sentiment of not liking the cold and snow. But this is where all our family are, in the same little town, and where I will stay. I hope you only get a dusting, if anything! We are still dealing with the melting of 6.5" from last weekend.. the sub-freezing temps and wind chills just aren't letting it melt. // Nice haircut! It looks so good! I put off my own perm/cut to March (because of winter), so my hair will be longer by then. I usually do every two months, but with the iffiness of our winters all the time, I can just wait it out. // Mmmm, now I want dessert. Thanks for that. 🤣 Hugs and blessings to you, Terri! 💕

  14. I hope it doesn't snow for you because if it does, it means I will get some, too! Yikes! Have fun with the company!

  15. Dear Terri, I love ❤️ this song 🎵 by The Beatles...I'll Follow the Sun.
Today we are getting snow ❄️ here in Montreal, and this is good, because the temperatures rise when it snows.
Vitamin C is a good preventive measure for colds.
Drink plenty of water, it helps to flush out any impurities or bacteria.
