Up the Ladder to the Roof
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Up the Ladder to the Roof (1970)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Many people are uncomfortable with ladders. Some feel unsteady on the steps, and others have a fear of heights. Then there's the superstition that warns against walking under ladders. Are you afraid of ladders? No.
2) In this song, the Supremes advise us to go up the ladder to the roof to be closer to Heaven. While poetic, that's not really why most homeowners climb onto the roof. They're more likely to be replacing shingles or cleaning the gutters. Have you ever been on the roof of your building? No, not this one or any of the houses I've lived in. My BFF Elaine and I used to sunbathe on my grandma's garage roof, though! We were 15-16...
3) The record was the Supremes' first and biggest hit without Diana Ross. When Jean Terrell replaced Diana as lead singer, the two ladies appeared together at a press event to launch this new iteration of the Supremes. Have you ever met your replacement at a job, or perhaps the person you replaced? Yes to both.
4) Mary Wilson was a member of the group when it was formed in 1959 and stayed through 1977, when the Supremes officially disbanded. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American stays at a job 3.9 years. Looking over your job history, how long did you typically stick with an employer? The longest was 20+ years. The shortest was 18 months because we decided to move to Florida.
5) The third Supreme performing on this record was Cindy Birdsong. After the group broke up for good, Cindy finished nursing school and practiced at UCLA Medical Center. When did you last interact with a nurse or nurse practitioner? Two of my walking buddies are retired nurses. Does that count? It's been a few months since I was at the doctor's office.
6) In 1970, when this song was popular, TV shows about doctors like Marcus Welby, MD, and Medical Center ranked high in the Nielsen ratings. Medical shows are still popular today, with Grey's Anatomy entering its 22nd season and The Pitt earning critical accolades. Do you have a favorite TV doctor? It was Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) on Grey's Anatomy. He left after season 16, and I haven't watched it since. Justin Chambers is my 2nd cousin on my mom's side of the family. His grandpa was my grandma's brother. I haven't seen him in person since 1994, though. I am close with his mom and uncle. He has a twin brother, and I remember them in highchairs!
7) Also in 1970, when this song was popular, audiences were lining up to see the movie Love Story. Without looking it up, complete the film's most famous line: "Love means never having to say you're sorry."
8) Slumberchums™ were all the rage among pre-teens in 1970. These sleeping bags had attached pillow "heads" that made it look like you were slipping into sleep inside a plush bear. When did you most recently sleep in a sleeping bag? So long ago that I can't even remember.
9) Random question: Did you take a multivitamin this morning? If yes, did you swallow it or chew it? Yes, I did, and I swallowed it.
Peace and Hugs!
God is good, all the time!
Writing this last evening, but feeling so much better.
I believe I will be able to go to the prayer workshop this morning!
Thanks to those who have lifted prayers for me!
Update: Well, I got a little ahead of myself. This morning was not as good as yesterday morning. I skipped the workshop and already told my church friends that I won't be there tomorrow. This better skeedaddle by Monday!! I feel like I've done 100 sit-ups with the muscles in my midsection. Will that count toward exercise? Coughing still hurts. Whining about a cold. Sorry!!

Wonderful news that you are feeling so much better this morning! Praise God!! I remember the Supremes when Diana Ross was still with them, but after she left I don't recall ever seeing them again... Oh, my favorite TV Dr. was Dr. Kildare! I never watched any of those newer shows. LOL. We have several retired nurses in our church, so I see them quite often. I will see our nurse practitioner in a couple of weeks for lab work, and the week after for follow up. I will take a multi vitamin tablet in a little while after I eat breakfast. Oh, I'm not afraid of ladders, but I really am not fond of climbing up too high on them. I think the last time I was on a roof was many many years ago, and my hubby thought it would be funny to move the ladder to another location while I was up on the roof. That didn't go over too well with me. LOL. I don't get up on roofs anymore. I think the longest I was with one employer was 6 years, although I worked in several different job locations for county school boards for a total of around 10 years, I think. We moved around a lot, but I was thankful to get jobs with the different school systems, which gave me a very small state pension when I retired. I am VERY thankful for that supplement to my S.S. now!! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, but don't overdo it!! (((HUGS)))
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun one. I remember all of these things. I haven't watched Grey's Anatomy in several years. I am glad you are feeling better. A lot of my answers are close to yours! Have a wonderful weekend. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteSo interesting that Justin Chambers is your second cousin, Terri. Keep on getting better!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI loved Marcus Welby, actually I enjoy a lot of medical shows. Very cool about Justin Chambers and remembering him in a high chair.
I'm not a height person and I don't think I've ever been on a roof!
Hope your day goes well!
Hooray for feeling better! I will use the 6' ladder but nothing higher.
ReplyDeleteOh no. I hope you feel better soon. The coughing is what is going around my classroom! I have had it twice. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend and stay warm!

Interesting Q-andA's! I remember when longevity in the workplace was a Good Thing, and did my best to comply. Smiling to remember, when I started my favorite job (WTSP-TV), my boss told me they chose me b/c I had the same birthday as the girl who I replaced.
ReplyDeleteIf he was my cousin he would be my favorite too!!! lol I'm going to check him out as soon as I finish this comment. :)) I hope you continue to get better - enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteOh, no …feel better!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your Saturday 9 answers, especially the garage roof sunbathing story, so vivid! I laughed at the mental image of those Slumberchums™ too. I hope the cold eases soon; coughing with sore muscles sounds brutal.
ReplyDeleteI remember very well the Love Story movie's famous line, "Love means never having to say you're sorry." It angers me every time I hear it. I get it that we love each other no matter what, but the courtesy and respect it takes to say, "I'm sorry," is invaluable for good relationships.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you've had such a time with this cold. Yes, I imagine your stomach muscles are terribly sore from all the coughing and nose-blowing. I hope it comes to a peaceful end very soon!
Whine away! There are a few nasty bugs out there this year. We've all had one or another of them since Christmas. I hope you get over yours quickly.
ReplyDeleteI am not afraid of walking under ladders, I am more afraid of climbing them.
ReplyDeleteMy friend and I used to sunbathe on her garage roof too. What a wonderful memory that I hadn't thought about in years.
Ahh! I loved Alex Karev in Grey's Anatomy! How cool that he is your 2nd cousin.
I hope you start to feel better soon.
Glad you are better. Love means never having to say your sorry - right words - but I don't believe it. lol
ReplyDeleteI would be shocked if someone lost or left a job.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry that you are sick. Maybe another day of rest will make it better!! I loved Marcus Welby haha! What a cool "fun fact" about yourself and your second cousin!!
ReplyDeleteUgh, so sorry you're not feeling well. I pray that you will be tip top shape soon, Terri.
ReplyDeleteDear Terri, I do not like ladders, because I have fallen off the two step ones on few occasions. I love ❤️ this song 🎵 by The Supremes.
