December 10th: The Wednesday Hodgepodge...

I am quickly checking in with the Hodgepodge today!  The wedding was beautiful and lots of fun.  I will have photos and stories to share on Friday.  Travel to and from was fine, and my son, Jeff, arrived shortly after I got home on Monday.  I am enjoying his visit. He is taking me out for crab legs and shrimp tomorrow, for my birthday!! I am behind on reading your posts, but I will catch up as soon as I can. 💗

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 632

From this Side of the Pond
1. Do you struggle with the commercialization of the holiday season? What helps you keep your focus when the season’s busyness and commercialism start to take over?  I don't struggle with it, but it starts earlier and earlier each year.  I  just try to ignore it until after Thanksgiving.

2. What's one small thing you want to savor before the year ends?  I count my blessings every day, big ones and small ones.

3. December 9th is National Christmas Card Day. Do you still send Christmas cards? If so, does yours include a photo, or is it a more traditional card, or maybe homemade? How do you feel about the tradition of exchanging cards at the holidays? If Hanukkah is the holiday you celebrate in December, do you send cards to mark the occasion?  I love getting Christmas cards, and I just mailed over 80 yesterday.  I don't do a photo, but I do include one of those holiday letters.  I love getting photo cards, cards with pictures, cards with a letter, cards with a note, or even just a card with a printed name.  It says Christmas to me.

4. What's your least favorite holiday-related task? What's your favorite? Least favorite used to be shopping for gifts.  Buying for the little ones was fun.  Buying for adults, not so much...only because we don't live close anymore, and it's hard to know what to get.  Gifts gave way to checks, cash, or gift cards.  Most of us quit exchanging gifts because it seemed silly to exchange a gift card for a gift card.  I know... bah-humbug.  I have more fun now when I find something to surprise someone with and just send it off.  My favorite would be cooking Christmas dinner for friends (and family, if they are here)!!  Having loved ones in my home makes me so happy!

5. Let's do a little holiday this or that?

  • shopping or wrapping gift bags!!
  • baking or decorating
  • eggnog or wassail  neither
  • real tree or artificial
  • turkey or ham
  • white lights or colored lights
  • ugly sweaters or matching pjs neither
  • peppermint or cinnamon
  • presents Christmas Eve or presents Christmas Day little ones should get Santa gifts on Christmas morning

6. Insert your own random thought here. Here is a wedding photo preview. Forgive my excitement.  It was so sweet, and I'm a proud grandma!

Peace and Hugs!

O Come, O Come, Immanuel...

Oh yes, I agree. Christmas seems to be starting earlier each year, I always ignore it until after my birthday at the end of November.
Wow! Go you with the Christmas cards. I am sending 2 out this year as no one I know seems to send them now.
