December 30th: The Last Tuesday 4 of the Year...

The End of the Year

Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 in the new year.  We wish you a very Happy New Year!

January is named for  Janus, the two-faced god who looked into the past and future. Some believe he was Noah, who may have been worshipped by his progeny. He certainly looked into the pre-flood world and the new world.

The Anglo-Saxons called January Wulfsmoonth, meaning "Month of the Wolf," and the Wolf moon appears in January.

1.  January 1, 1892, Ellis Island opened its doors.  Did any of your relations enter the United States through Ellis Island? Not mine, but Joe's dad, aunts, and uncles all came through Ellis Island in the 1920s.  If not, do you know your family's history?  I do know a lot of my family history.  All branches have been here for hundreds of years, long before Ellis Island.

2. January's birthstone is garnet, and the flower is the carnation.  Do you have a favorite gemstone or flower?  I love gemstone colors, especially emerald and ruby.  I love the simple daisy as a favorite flower.

3. January 6 is Epiphany. Many consider that day the final day of the Christmas celebration and take down their decorations.   What about you?  I agree that Epiphany is the final day of Christmas, but I have always taken down decorations right after New Year's Day.  When I was working full-time, it just made sense to get the cleaning done while I had a few days off.  Now, it is just a habit, I think.  I am ready to put it all away for another year.

4. There is some scientific evidence that January can set the tone for your entire year. What do you think of this? Do you make resolutions, etc? Do you pick a word of the year or have any traditions like that?  I don't agree or disagree with that first statement.  I don't make resolutions, and I haven't been moved by a specific word for 2026.  I might just keep "Mindful" for another year, since it served me well this year.

Peace and Hugs!!

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning
New mercies I see.
All I have needed
Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness,
Lord, unto me!

  2. How interesting about Joe's family going through Ellis Island.
We took the decorations down yesterday while everyone was still home and could help.
Mindful is a great word for the year.
Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best for 2026.

  3. While I was working, I always put away the decorations during the break. Like you said, it just made sense. Now, it is the weekend closest to Epiphany. I may up continuing with my word/phrase from 2025 as well.

  4. #3 is me exactly. I like to get the cleaning done before I have to go back to work. I am just so tired when I get home from work and I like to rest on the weekend. Loved your answers! Have a great week.

  5. Normally we wait until Epiphany to take down our decorations, but I've already begun "here and there" ... I'm ready for a New Beginning!
I'm trying not to over-think my new Word; I guess time will tell when the calendar strikes 2026. Mindful is a great word!

  6. Joe was so Italian! I am not surprised. I need to take my decorations down this week. I like to get them up and then take them down. Mindful is a great word.

  7. Dear Terri, I am stopping by to let you know I am thinking of you. I really appreciate your posts as well as your friendship. Thank you so much for your visits and kind comments on my blog posts. It really means a lot to me.
I live alone and have been divorced since 1998 and over the last several years I haven't bothered putting up any tree or Christmas decorations.
However, I do like them and enjoy seeing them in homes and in parks and malls.
I wish you a very Happy New Year with good health, joy, peace and love.

  8. I like your word, MIndful. I've thought of it several times throughout this past year, and it always made me think of you! I may start taking down decorations after the first, but it will probably take me a week to get it done, so by then it will be Epiphany! LOL. I still don't know what my new word for 2026 will be...but that's okay. God probably has so many things He wants to teach me this year He's still trying to sort it out. LOL. I hope you have a blessed 2026!!
