The Saturday 9 on June 7th...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  You can join in HERE!

Hold On

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks, we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Hold On (1990)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song gives encouragement to someone who is enduring heartache. Have you more recently given support, or received it?  I always try to help friends and neighbors whenever I can, and they do the same for me.  Even offering words of encouragement and prayers, of course.

2) "Hold On" is featured prominently in the 2011 movie Bridesmaids. It's an anthem for the friends in the film, and they love to sing it together. Is there a song that reminds you of good times with a good friend?  Joe and I went to a lot of movies when we were dating, and the theme song for Flashdance is the first music we danced to together.  We also took dance lessons when we were dating, and the Polka was the most fun dance, so a good polka always reminded me of that fun.

3) The video for this song finds Wilson Phillips outdoors on a snowy mountainside and then on a sandy beach. What's the view outside your window?  The window blinds are closed, but through the door, I can see that my neighbor is watering their lawn, so I just see water spraying.  I can also see a bag of clothing that I need to donate, which is by the front door.

4) The mountain segments were filmed in California's San Gabriel Mountains. The girls were flown to the set by helicopter. Have you ever been in a helicopter?  I have not been in a helicopter.

5) The members of Wilson Phillips are authentic "California Girls." Wendy and Carnie Wilson's father is Brian Wilson, who wrote the Beach Boys hit. Chynna Phillips is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas, who sang "California Dreamin'." Have you been to California? If yes, where did you visit?  I have not been to California, and I don't really have any desire to visit there.

6) Another generation of the Wilson family has entered the music business. Carnie's daughter/Brian Wilson's granddaughter, Lola Bonfiglio, participated in the current season of American Idol. Has a family member followed you in your chosen profession?  No, not me, but both of our boys followed their dad and grandpa.  Joey is a CPA, like his dad, and Jeff is a Meat Manager for Safeway Stores.  Joe's parents had a meat market.

7) In 1990, when this song was popular, satellite radio was in its infancy, and streaming was unheard of. Our cars gave us a choice of AM/FM and maybe a CD player/tape deck. When you're driving and a favorite song comes on, are you more likely to sing along if you're alone? Or don't you care if anyone hears you?  I am alone in the car most of the time, and I do sing along to songs I know.  I also did it with Joe in the car, but no one else would put up with it.  LOL  I have a range of about five notes.  When I was a kid, the whole family sang in the car, including my dad.  That is one of my top 10 favorite memories.

8) Also in 1990, actor Alan Hale Jr. died. He was "the skipper" on Gilligan's Island. Without looking it up, can you name the other six castaways? (If not the actors, then their characters.)  Mary Ann, Ginger, Gilligan, Mr. Howell, Lovey, and the Professor.  I think that's it.  I loved watching Gilligan's Island.

9) Random question: What superhero would you like to have as your best friend?  I've never been "into" comic book superheroes, but I'll go with the first one that came to mind...  Wonder Woman.

Peace and Hugs!

Jesus, you're my superhero.
You're my star, my best friend.
Jesus, you're my superhero.
You're my star, my best friend.

  1. Loved your answers, and I think you are "Wonder Woman"! I wouldn't mind having Superman as my best friend! LOL. But I guess Wonder Woman would be more appropriate for a "best friend". LOL. Love the picture of the D'Orsaneo Meat Market! That's cool, and I didn't know Jeff was a meat market manager! That's neat!! I enjoyed this post. Hope you have a wonderful day today. We are heading to the market where Benton will be selling his wares today up in between Melrose and Keystone Heights.

  5. I've never been to California and wouldn't go if someone paid my way. I love the fact that Joe and you took dance lessons when you were dating and that the polka was a favorite. Gilligan's Island? Who could forget? Have a great weekend, Terri!

  7. I'm so glad my childhood dream of living in California never came true! Yes, I've seen just about the whole of it at one time or another -- glad for the experiences, but I've no desire to go back. Another of my blog friends shared yesterday (that) their gasoline prices are almost $9/gallon. Yikes!
Now with earbuds being all the rage, I'm not so self-conscious about singing to myself in the car. (No-one has to know they're not turned on, lol).

  9. I did visit the full length of California--I loved the far north and the far south! The Mts in the central eastern part was gorgeous, too. I don't listen to music usually in the car--either an audio book or talk radio.
