The Wednesday Hodgepodge on June 11th...

 Thank you, Joyce, for today's questions!!  Click here to join the Hodgepodgers!!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 606

From this Side of the Pond

1.  June 10th is National Herbs and Spices Day. Besides salt and pepper, what herb or spice container do you reach for most often?  Garlic powder.  Is there a spice you truly dislike?  No. What's a recent dish you made that called for more than salt and pepper?  My oven sheet pan dinner called for pesto/basil.  It was good!

2.  It's been said, 'variety is the spice of life'...in what way is this true for you? Elaborate.  No, not really.  Twenty years at my last full-time job.  Married 36 years to the same amazing man. Lived in our previous house for 28 years.  Been in this one for eight years.  Not much variety, and I've been blessed and happy.

3. What's something in your life that adds 'spice' (excitement, intensity) even if it also comes with challenge or unpredictability?  Again... not much "spice" in my life now.  Past 70, retired, happy in my cozy home...

4. If you could instantly master one skill or hobby, what would it be and why?  I still wish I had stuck with piano lessons.

5. We're halfway through the year...what's one book, movie, or activity you've loved this year that you'd recommend to others?  I mentioned it in my posts a few times, but I found The Repair Shop on YouTube.  It is a British show that has pulled me in.  I love what they do, and I am enthralled with the craftsmanship of the 'magicians' who work there.  I purchased Suzie Fletcher's book and also one of The Repair Shop books.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I DID start painting yesterday and will be finished on Friday!!  One section at a time, and my bathroom is looking good.  On Saturday, I will finally be able to clean up and reorganize the "den/junk room," put all of the painting stuff away, and my summer can get started!  I have a trip planned in July and will write more about it in the coming weeks!

Peace and Hugs!

Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise;
thou mine inheritance, now and always;
thou and thou only first in my heart,
high King of heaven, my treasure thou art.

  2. I don't need much spice in life either, prefer it on my food! :)
    I did continue piano lessons! I don't play much now and am definitely rusty but it's still fun.
    Good for you for getting a start on painting.
    We love The Repair Shop and are so glad you told me about it!

  3. I don't like pepper! lol My life has been very smooth and the only spice was a few travels; it is not so now.

  4. Garlic, yessss! Call me an old stick-in-the-mud, but in this season of life I’m less interested in variety than I am in comfort. Reliability.
    If your travels next month bring you near central Alabama, I'd love to see your face again!

  5. I'm glad. you have the painting underway and it will feel good to have that job behind you I'm sure. Quite a few today are wishing they'd started or stuck with the piano. I suppose it's never too late. Enjoy your travels...are you passing my way? (Western NC/Upstate SC)? If so be sure to let me know!

  7. I think it's garlic that we reach for most often too.
    My 'spice' in life is working outside unless it's super hot. I do enjoy makin' everything purdy.
    I wish I'd stuck with my guitar lessons but have so little musical talent. Just not my thing, I guess.
    Bet your place looks so nice. I haven't done any painting in a while because my right shoulder is so weak. I can paint if it's at waist level. Anything higher than that is going to stay whatever color it is.
    Blessings. 💓

  8. I'm not one for anything "hot" spicy, but I do love garlic. Good for you getting the bathroom painted this week, Terri. Blessings!

  9. I also use garlic powder regularly with salt and pepper. I don't use a lot of other spices except when I make tacos meat or spaghetti. (However, I use store bought jars of spaghetti sauce, so I really don't do much different with that). I wish I had even tried to take piano lessons, but they were never offered to me and I wasn't interested at the time. But as an adult and a pastor's wife, I've often wished I could play. Now I wish I could learn to paint. Not the bathroom, but pictures. LOL. But like Sparky said above, I can't paint or do any woodworking projects anymore because of my weak shoulders/arms. Be sure to take pictures of your new bathroom paint job! Oh, I can't wait to hear where you are going in July! Wherever it is, I hope you have a great time!

  10. I hope you get your painting done and then you will be finished - right? I don't like a lot of spice - but my husband does, and it makes a little disagreement between us. You were married a long time to a wonderful man.

  11. Garlic is my go-to spice, too. I add it to almost everything. Good for you tackling the painting. I need to do some, but finding the time and energy..... yeah, not happening any time soon. I enjoyed your answers to the questions. Enjoy the rest of your week, Terri!

  12. I really admire how content you are with life’s steady rhythm it’s a reminder that peace and happiness don’t always come from change, but from appreciating what we have. Enjoy that painting and your upcoming trip.

  14. Congrats on the painting in that bathroom. That's a job that has been hanging over your head for a while, so I know you'll be glad to put it all away.

  15. Wow, I would not trust myself to paint a room myself anymore. I don't even trust Dick. We did our master bathroom a few years ago, and we made too many blunders - little smudges on the ceiling a few places, some visible brush marks after it was dry, etc. We used to wallpaper and paint every room in our big, old houses when we were younger. And with children underfoot.
