The Wednesday Hodgepodge on June 25th...

 Our hostess, Joyce, has done it again!  Thank you for the fun, Joyce!  Join the fun HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 608

From this Side of the Pond

1. What does adventure mean to you?  LOL, these days, going to the grocery store can be an adventure!  Joe and I used to call going on an impromptu car ride an adventure - exploring a place we hadn't been to before.  Always fun!

2.  What are your thoughts on tipping? What businesses or service providers do you regularly tip? Do you resent being asked if you'd like to add a tip? What about when a suggested amount is presented?  I am happy to tip well for good service.  I tip in restaurants and for hair and nail services.  I do not like being asked for a tip.  I don't mind when the restaurant ticket shows the tip amounts, but it is sad that many people don't know how to compute a tip, and that it is therefore suggested.  If the tip is added "for me," I may or may not pay that amount.  Don't be presumptuous.

3. I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream...do we? Is ice cream a favorite treat at your house? What's your favorite flavor? Regular, soft serve, gelato, sherbet, or some sort of non-dairy version of ice cream...what's your pleasure?  I do love ice cream.  Joe used to call it his favorite food group! I always have ice cream in the freezer and admit to having some most days. I love chocolate, mint chocolate, caramel, butter pecan...  I do like DQ soft serve, I love gelato (we had it every day we were in Italy), and sherbet is okay, but not necessarily a favorite.  I also like frozen yogurt.

4. What's your 'back in my day, we____________________ ' story or saying?  Back in my day, we didn't have cell phones or computers.  TV had three stations and they all ended programming at midnight!!  How did we ever survive?!!  LOL

5. Somehow, this is our last Hodgepodge in the month of June. Next week's Hodgepodge lands in July. Wow. Sum up your June using three adjectives.  Busy.  Hot.  Fun.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I had such a nice time with my neighbors/friends yesterday.  We had a girls' day out.  Shopping at Southern Hospitality and lunch at...

Susan, Sandy, and Terri

Peace and Hugs!

Love Divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of heaven to earth come down;
Fix in us Thy humble dwelling;
All Thy faithful mercies crown!

  1. Hi Terri, I enjoyed reading your responses to these questions! Here in Quebec the government has actually stepped in (recently, like in the last couple of months) to moderate the tipping in restaurants and bars, because it was discovered that these establishments were calculating the tip percentage including the tax. It should be done before tax, so now the government has made guidelines. I am like yourself, I don't mind tipping well for a service that I am very satisfied with, but I don't like it to be asked for tips. I often give higher than the "percentage" stipulated and to be honest, I don't even look at what is recommended, because my tip exceeds what is suggested.

  2. I think the world was a bit gentler and we had more patience for one another when we weren't living in a 24/7 everything all the time kind of society. Glad you had a fun day out with friends. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  3. Glad you girls had fun yesterday!
    I tip for good service too. However, I hate that now they ask for tips for everything! I feel like if you go to a drive through for food, there's no need for a tip bucket.

  5. I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Tom enjoys a bowl just about every night, but I try and control my cravings to a cup of Rebel (keto) once a week. Now, if I come across a soft-serve gelato stand, all bets are off!
    I don't mind tipping my hairdresser or server, but generally I fear the 'business' of tipping is getting out of hand.
    Now, I think an adventure is in order!

  6. Ahh! I agree grocery shopping is an adventure, especially when all my family decide to come along.
    I don't like being asked for a tip either, if they deserve it they will get it but there's no need to ask.
    I am always telling my girls that they would have never survived back in my day. lol
    Your girls day does sound like fun!

  7. I do love ice cream, but now I have to watch my sugar intake, so I won't have it as much as I'd like. I do love chocolate, too! That's a nice photo of you and your friends, Terri. Glad you could have so much fun together.

  8. Your 'back in the day' answer is so true, how in the world did we manage without all this new stuff? lol I can remember when we didn't have air conditioning. Attic fans and open windows were how our house was cooled. WoW At the time we didn't know any different, how can you miss a/c when you don't even know what it is? Now that's going WAY back!! ((hugs))

  12. Tipping as always been a little bit of a mystery to me. Not so much as how much - but who and when.
    Do you have a Brewster's there - chocolate raspberry truffle. YUMMY
