The Tuesday 4...

Thanks to Annie for today's Tuesday 4!!  You can join in HERE!

Home Where the Heart Is

Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.
This week let's talk about home or the house in which you grew up.

1. What do you think of this picture... the staircase? Do you like how it looks?  Does it say "home" to you?
Would you like something that looks like this?  It seems old-fashioned to me, and I am not fond of it.  I don't like wallpaper, and I don't like the busy carpeting.  Just me.  It would not be in my house.  I am sure it says home to many, though!

2. Did you love growing up in your family home? Could you live in a house like that today? I grew up in a great house and loved it.  I loved my family, the home, and the small farming community where we lived.  I would not live in a house like that now.  Too many stairs, too much yard to care for...  but it was a great place to grow up!!

3.  What did your bedroom look like when you were a teen?  It was painted lavender (my choice), and I had a double bed, a dressing table, a desk, a chest of drawers, and a nice closet.  I didn't have to share.  No photos.  :(

4.  What kind of vibes or atmosphere do you like to foster in your home today?  Sophisticated, homey?  Comfortable and lived in.  It is not matchy-matchy and is very eclectic.  Put your feet up, have some chips and a beverage.  No worries.

Peace and Hugs!

In every condition,
In sickness, in health,
In poverty’s vale,
Or abounding in wealth;
At home, or abroad,
On the land, on the sea,
“As your days may demand,
Shall your strength ever be.”

  1. The wallpaper and carpet on the stairs are very busy patterns! I tend toward clean lines and more simple patterns for most home furnishings - not all, but most. My sister, that is here visiting right now, and I shared a room for some of our growing up years. We had this cool red furniture that was purchased at a local furniture store. I thought it was the coolest furniture ever (at the time!).

  2. I will be working on this Tuesday 4 post a little later today. It will take some thinking for me. I am not fond of the carpeted stairs and wallpaper together...too much, and like you, I can't do stairs anymore. They are beautiful to look at, but I'd hate to have to go up and down them all the time, especially if the only bathroom was up or down! Oh, you were lucky to have your own bedroom since you had two sisters and a brother! Wow! I guess because you were the oldest! I loved lavender too, and at one point I did have some lavender accents in my bedroom, I think after my sister moved out, but until then we shared the bedroom and had twin beds, but I'd better save this info for my post. I love the picture of your old home! It looks roomy and comfortable and very homey! I can imagine it was a happy and busy place with the 4 children, especially with three of them being girls! How many bathrooms did you have? We only had 1 for 6 people (4 children, 2 boys, 2 girls). The bathroom became grand central station and was much in demand at all times. Anyway, you were blessed to grow up in a small town (so did I) and have a loving, happy family. I can tell that you have brought your family values of hospitality with you into adulthood! I enjoyed your post and more than that, I enjoy knowing YOU!

    1. Our bathroom was upstairs and there were six of us. I learned to get up an hour before my dad so I could be first in the bathroom every morning! Survival of the fittest!! LOL Later (after I left home) Dad built in a half-bath downstairs by taking part of the front porch. You can see it in the photo above, on the right side of the porch.

  3. I grew up in a home with only one bathroom, too (saw your response to Pamela). I don't know how we survived, but we did. I do love rustic looks in homes and the simpler the better. Blessings, Terri!

  4. I have loved each home I have lived it--all comfortable and not show cases. I like people to be welcomed and not feel the house is fussy!

  5. I really like the photo of the floral carpet on the stairs and the wall paper. A dated look for now, of course, but if it were given to me, I'd take it!

My family moved just about once every 1-2 years until I moved out at age 20. But then with my late husband's career, we still moved quite a lot. I didn't stay in the same house for more than 4 years until I was nearly 50 years old.

I am so thankful for where I live now, going on 3 years very soon.

  6. The old wall paper - I would never have it - but it did remind me of the good OLD days.

  7. What a grand home in which to grow up. I can just imagine all the laughter of the four children you were.
    Eclectic works for me!

  8. I agree, I don't care for the look of that stairway. Lucky you, having a room of your own! Actually, I never had a room of my own my entire life! Growing up I always shared a bedroom with at least one sister, sometimes with three sisters! And then I got married and have been sharing my bedroom with Dick for 53 years!
