Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
3) Songwriter Albert Hammond said the song was inspired by his divorce. After years of legal wrangling, he was finally free to marry his long-time, long-suffering girlfriend. They're still married today. What is something you waited a long time for? Was it worth the wait? LOL... I waited a long time to retire, and it is so worth it.
7) In 1987, when this song was popular, Aretha Franklin became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Aretha was proud of her Detroit roots. Have you been to Michigan? If yes, where did you go? I was in the Detroit airport for two hours last October. I may be changing that this summer.
Saturday 9: Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now (1987)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) In this song, Gracie Slick challenges, "Let them say we're crazy!" Tell us about something you're glad you did, even though your friends or family may have advised you against it. We weren't advised against it, but quite a few people (family & friends) thought we were crazy when we bought a house in Florida while on vacation, with no planning or much forethought. It all worked out, though, and we never looked back..
2) Slick is the lead singer of Jefferson Starship. This band got its start in 1965 as Jefferson Airplane but updated their name in 1974. Part of their reasoning was that by the 1970s, airplane travel was commonplace. In 2023, an estimated 820 million Americans flew domestically. When was your most recent flight? When is your next one? I flew to Ohio last October for my nephew's wedding. I don't have dates yet, but I may be flying north sometime this summer.

4) Albert Hammond is perhaps best known as the one-hit wonder who sang, "It Never Rains in Southern California." Is rain expected where you are today? No, not today or anytime soon. We had some glorious rain last week, but we are dry again this week. The fire ban was lifted for our area, though, and our rainy season is coming.
5) He co-wrote the song with Diane Warren. In January, she lost her home to the Los Angeles fires. When a friend is confronted by heartache or tragedy, what can you say or do for them? What shouldn't you say or do? Just be there for them. Be quiet when quiet is needed, and let them talk when they need to talk. Listen. Find something to do to get out and about. I speak from experience, and bless my friends who were there for me when Joe died.
6) "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" was the love theme to the romantic fantasy Mannequin. In that movie, a department store mannequin comes to life and falls for a struggling artist. While it was a moderate success at the box office, the gritty Vietnam drama Platoon was a much bigger hit. When you sit down to watch a movie, what genre would you prefer (fantasy, romance, comedy, drama, etc.)? I enjoy historically accurate dramas, quirky comedies, and a romance is good if it isn't soupy and transparent. I don't care for fantasy or science fiction. A good mystery that isn't easy to figure out and keeps me on the edge of my seat is always good (in a book, too!).
8) In 1987, the Chevy Corvette made news by adding a low tire pressure light to its dashboard. When you're driving and a yellow warning light comes on, do you handle the issue promptly? Or is it something you'll get to when you get around to it? I stop when I can do so safely, and look in my owner's manual. I also have FIXD and can easily attach it to the car's computer and check the problem on my FIXD phone app. It will tell me what's wrong and how much it should cost for the repair. I also have AAA in my wallet and have never hesitated to call them when needed. They have even come to my house a couple of times and have done repairs in my carport. So worth it.
9) Random question: A magic mirror reflects your appearance five years from today. Would you look at it? I had to stop and think about it. No. Don't ask me to do that. I am happy taking each day that God gives me and trust Him completely to lead me on.

Peace and Hugs!!
When my way groweth drear
Precious Lord, linger near
When my life is almost gone
Hear my cry, hear my call
Hold my hand lest I fall
Take my hand, precious Lord
Lead me on

You know, regarding to #1, I might say "What were we thinking", but all in all, I am happy to be living in the free state of Florida, smiles. Wishing you a beautiful day and I can't wait to hear more going north. ☺
ReplyDeleteI don't want to see in the future either...
ReplyDeleteYes, to seeing Michigan!
I never heard of FIXD, but sounds like something I would like.
Yeah, it’s clear buying a house in Florida worked out for you.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite songs!
ReplyDeleteI agree, even with less discretionary dollars, retirement rocks! There's lots of places I still want to see, but refuse to fly. That said, I need to check out FIXD! Please, let me know if you happen upon a "good mystery that isn't easy to figure out and keeps me on the edge of my seat"!
It all seems like yesterday, but it is our time for a lovely season here in the north, and moving on to summer which I did not care for in Florida.. :)
ReplyDeleteHere is the link on Amazon, for FIXD. We got one for us and one for each of the boys, for Christmas one year. It is easy to use. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=fixd+car+diagnostic+tool&crid=6AHPSWJA1ZBM&sprefix=FIXD%2Caps%2C170&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_4
ReplyDeleteI was jumped off our local bridge (30') and that was pretty crazy--I thought I was never going to surface again! lol
ReplyDeleteI love your last answer, Terri. That's the way to live each day fully. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteLooking in the mirror just confirms we are who we are! Corvette, I double dated in one, yep, we were crazy back in those days, and skinny. Enjoyed your answers today, hope all is going well for you and your days are happy and blessed.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are loving retirement. I am also happy that you are going north for a little while this summer!
