Hard Working Women
Well, it's good to see you back here at Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.
Whenever I write Tuesday 4 I will inevitably hit the 5 instead of the 4.
Oh well... Let's talk about Moms and Wives and other unpaid domestic servants.
1. Have you ever found yourself in the same position as this lady? How did you feel about it? Joe was a good helper, so no, I haven't experienced that.
2.. Women do the cooking, the cleaning up and the organizing while the rest of the family reap the rewards of that.. is it fair? I think each family is different but times are also different. Women are more likely to be working outside the home these days and in a "perfect" world, chores should be shared.
3. Vacations at air b&bs or rental homes often mean Mom does all the work. What kind of holiday or vacation would be most restful for you? That made me chuckle. I have always said camping and rentals are not a vacation if I still have to make beds, do the cooking, and the cleaning. Joe and I enjoyed sharing a beautiful house at Folly Beach with my sister, sister-in-law, and my sister's sister-in law and all of the family members. There were six bedrooms, five bathrooms, and it was right on the beach. Each family had a day for chores... shopping, cooking for everyone, and cleaning up. It worked really well... so there are exceptions to my statement above. Alternating chores makes it better when there are many hands. BUT... a vacation for me has always meant three meals in a restaurant, someone else cleaning the room, making the bed, and putting clean towels in the bathroom! LOL
4. In Proverbs 31, the wife is married to a very prominent man in town. She runs the house, has a cottage industry, owns vineyards on her own and buys and sells real estate.
What kind of woman are you? Do you hold a job.. do you do the housework.. do you find rewards in service to others or do you find it can be wearing on you or perhaps a little bit of both. I always held a full-time job but have also always taken pride in my home and I enjoy entertaining. The older I get, the more wearing it can be, though!!
What earthly rewards do you get out of the life you are living? I count my blessings every day. I have a wonderful family, many friends who are like family, a safe and comfortable home, caring neighbors, and faith in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

I love your answers and feel much the same way. Our last "vacation" was to the mountains with our kids and hubby's brother and wife. We women did do all the cooking, etc. in our Airbnb, but we worked together and had fun figuring out the meals, etc., plus we did usually go out to lunch. However, a real vacation where I don't have to do anything like that would be nice sometime. And you are right, the older we get, the harder it gets to be all that "hospitable". I often wish I had a cook and a housekeeper to take care of things so I could just relax and enjoy our guests! LOL. But I am thankful for what we have and the friends and family we have, and wouldn't trade that for any cook or housekeeper...
ReplyDeleteLove the answers, Terri. Wishing you a beautiful day my friend.
ReplyDeleteWhen my kids were little, we had a 'camp' and I did note that I had all the work of packing, cooking, cleaning and caring for the littles without the conveniences of my home!!! I don't count it as my fav way to vacation! lol The change of scenery was nice and everyone else loved it! I am generally happy wherever I am now-
ReplyDeleteI actually LOVED packing and organizing our stuff for camping in our little pop up camper. I kind of miss those days. It was a lot of prep work but once there, my husband did the bulk of the work and we used sleeping bags so no beds had to be made hahah. We also always treated the girls to a night out at a restaurant or if it ended up raining we would go out to eat. I enjoyed your answers!!
ReplyDeleteWhen our kids were younger, we had a pop up camper and had so much fun with it. It was a lot of work planning and packing, but Bob usually cooked all our meals on the grill and the kids helped with clean up. Now I enjoy traveling and eating out - like you said, someone else takes care of the towels and bed making and I don't have to cook!
ReplyDeleteI've only experienced that kind of "vacation" once ... which was more than enough. Maybe I'm lazy, but my idea of a getaway's like yours -- restaurant meals, tidy bathroom and fresh sheets. I once read that Jackie 'O' insisted on freshly laundered sheets every day and thought that would be the height of luxury. Mind you, I could have done that myself but "why."
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that when you all rented a place as a family, everyone took turns doing whatever chores were necessary. That allows everyone to have a good time on vacation. Enjoyed all your answers, Terri. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI sure do agree on the vacation.. someone to do it all while we rest and relax.
ReplyDeleteGreat answers Terri. I found myself in the same situation as the lady in the first photo and decided to go join him. And you know, it was great! We both cleaned up later and I learned a huge lesson. That is, I was putting the pressure on myself to have everything looking nice. :) We're older now and things have slowed down for us, times are different. But life, and God! is good.
ReplyDeleteProbably the only REAL vacation I have ever been on was the cruise in 2015. Our vacations are usually visiting family, and that involves cooking and dishes and cleaning. And you know, we do go camping one weekend a year. It is never a vacation, but we do have fun.
ReplyDeleteDick has always helped with housework, but when there's a family group at our house, it's not unusual for the men to relax in the living room after the meal while I clean up or play with the kids. I have expressed my dissatisfaction a number of times over the past year or two. I hate missing all the adult conversations! I've noticed this past holiday season that Dick went ahead and started putting away leftovers and filling the dishwasher, etc. It was nice and I made sure I let him know how much I appreciated it.
Oh those dishes ! Reminds me of a Thanksgiving after people eat We have a big family and get togethers . I try to keep at it a little at a time when we cook and thank God my husband helps but after the meal there’s a lot to do , usually someone will pitch in to help
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers. My hubby does help out but his hours are long and by the time he gets home, he's worn out. If I don't feel like cleaning up something, I've learned to be okay about letting it wait til the next day, though I try to not do that too often.
