The Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's nine questions!  You can join in HERE!

Money

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Money (That's What I Want) 1959

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) These lyrics mention "the birds and bees." Who told you about the facts of life?  Mom, teachers, friends.  I don't remember a sit-down conversation.  I was pretty naive, actually.

2) Barrett Strong sings that love won't pay the bills. How do you handle bill paying? Do you set aside one day a month to take care of all your bills, or do you pay each one as it comes in? What's your system?  Most of my bills are paid automatically on the due date through my bank.  Fortunately, there aren't too many of them anymore.

3) He refers to dollar bills as "lean greens." Can you think of any other euphemisms for money?  Lettuce. Cabbage. Jingle. Moolah. C-notes. Bucks.

4) April is tax time, so money is top-of-mind for us all. Do you do your own taxes or do you seek the help of a professional?  I only did my own taxes for two years, a very long time ago.  Joe was a CPA, and I left it to him.  Now my son, Joe, does my taxes for me.  He is also a CPA.  I am sure I could figure it out, but I'm happy to have it done for me!

5) On this week's song, Barrett does a solid job on the vocals, and he handles the keyboards well. In addition to performing, he was a talented songwriter. One of his most popular compositions was "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," a song about a lover who listened to gossip and got some useful information. Have you ever been the subject of gossip? If yes, was there any truth to the rumor?  I am sure I have been gossiped about (most people probably have), but I've only discovered something a few times.  One was that I was pregnant when I got married the first time.  Not true!!  It seemed like we planned the wedding quickly only because we were both going to college and the only time we had off together was over Christmas.  We got married on December 27th (seven months after my high school graduation). I was the 6th girl from my senior class to get married... the first who didn't "have to".  I found out about it because that Spring, someone asked my mom about her new grandchild.  She told me about it and we chuckled.  Small towns...

6) He worked with Motown and its sister label, Tamla, for years, but when they moved their offices from Detroit to LA, he quit. Have you ever relocated for your career? No, but I relocated for my first husband's career.

7) In 1959, when "Money" was popular, Huckleberry Hound was a hit with young TV viewers in 1959. What was your favorite cartoon when you were a kid?  Yogi Bear, Looney Tunes (Road Runner), and I also liked Huckleberry.

8) While children were enjoying daytime cartoons, their parents were discovering The Twilight Zone, which also premiered in 1959. Decades later, it's still being rerun on cable and streaming services. Are you a fan?  I loved it years ago, but when I watch a rerun today, it just makes me chuckle.  The times have certainly changed.

9) Random question: Right now, would you prefer to grab a snack or take a nap?  I'm not a napper, but that sounds better than a snack right now.

Peace and Hugs!

Crown Him with many crowns,
As thrones before Him fall;
Crown Him, ye kings, with many crowns,
For He is King of all.

  2. I loved Twilight Zone but you're right, now it's dated. I do still watch an episode at times.

    1. Me too, just for the nostalgia of it all. The one I remember most is the one with the creature on the wing of the airplane!! I think about it every time I fly! LOL

  3. I miss Rod Serling's Twilight Zone! Now I need to find a rerun and see if the attraction's still there. I don't know if my mother was unprepared or too shy to broach The Subject, but I learned about it at school. We 6th grade girls were ushered into a classroom and shown a "facts of life" video -- they even taped construction paper over the windows so the boys couldn't peek! Sooo embarrassed when my girlfriend's mother spilled the beans and she wanted to know why I hadn't told her. Times sure have changed!

  4. I did like those cartoons as a kid, Terri. Yes, I know I've been gossiped about, but I've learned not to take negative rumors seriously, and I never gossip about others. It can be a cruel sport. Blessings!

  5. I loved to watch Twilight Zone with my dad--Mom hated it and went in her room to read! I did have some nightmares, though. I did like the questions it stirred in me and I still scour a circumstance and never take it at face value!

  6. We always said "dough" for money, still do, haha! I watched the Twilight Zone as a little girl when my parents did in the evening, but I haven't watched it since then. I wasn't so much into cartoons, but I did like "Lassie" and "Flipper" on Saturdays. I'm not a napper nor a snacker. But doggone, there are times I sincerely think about hopping into my bed for a quick snooze... but then I wouldn't sleep at night! Bleah. Blessings to you, Terri!

  7. John still loves to watch the old Twilight Zone reruns. Sometimes I watch them with him. They do make you think. I guess I learned most of what I knew about the birds and bees from friends and also from a cartoon film we were shown in the Girl Scouts. My mother never told me anything except what NOT to do. LOL Gossip? Oh, I'm sure, like you, growing up in a very small town and school, there wasn't much that didn't get gossiped around whether it was true or not. I'm not aware of anything in particular, but I'm sure it happened. Oh, I am a "napper", and rarely does a day go by that we don't take a nap...except when we have company and go out to lunch that ends up being a wonderful long visit! LOL. No napping then! LOL. That was a wonderful day! Thank you again for coming and making it all so special. (((Hugs)))

  9. Regarding #8 and The Twilight Zone. My family watched it but often I did not like it because it was hard to understand or scary, or just weird. I would not watch it now. It might be like re-runs of Star Trek -- just corny.
