The Saturday 9...

Big thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  You can join the fun HERE!

Summer in the City

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Summer in the City (1966)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) Now that Labor Day has passed and kids have returned to school, summer is unofficially over. Looking back, share a highlight from Summer 2024.  I got new tires on my car...

2) Though this week's song is about summer, it was recorded in the spring, March to be exact. What's your favorite season?  Late Fall, Winter, and Spring, here in Florida.

3) Lovin' Spoonful lead singer John Sebastian sings that he's going to meet his lover on the rooftop. When were you last on the roof of your building?  I have never been on my rooftop.  I have always been a fan of John Sebastian, though!

4) The lyrics refer to sidewalks that are "hotter than a match head." What's the last thing you lit with a match?  I don't even have matches in the house.

5) The Lovin' Spoonful was founded by John B. Sebastian and Zal Yanovsky. When the band broke up, Zal opened a restaurant. Tell us about the restaurant you most recently dined at.  The Mas Verde dinner group went to Reececliff on Thursday.  It is a fixture in Lakeland's Dixieland area.  Famous for their pies and daily specials.

6) John went on to have a solo career. His biggest hit was "Welcome Back," the theme to a popular 70's sitcom. The first line: "Welcome back, your dreams were your ticket out ...". Do you recall what show used "Welcome Back" as its theme?  I loved Welcome Back Kotter and watched it every week.

7) In 1964, when "Summer in the City" was popular, Americans were tuned in to Bewitched. The show centered around Samantha, a witch married to a mortal. Among her supernatural powers were flight, time travel, and telekinesis (being able to move objects by twitching her nose). If you could have one of those powers, which would you choose?  I would love to be able to clean the house and cook a meal with just a twitch of my nose!!  Please!!

8) In 1964, AJ Foyt earned the second of his four Indy 500 victories. Do you watch car racing?  Nope.  No thanks.

9) Random question: Is your big toe your longest toe?  No. My second toe is longer than my big toe. What does that mean?

Peace and Hugs!

Are you walking daily by the Savior’s side?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Do you rest each moment in the Crucified?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

  2. That's 'funny' about the new tires because our 2010 Nissan Frontier had to get new ones. I was shocked at how much they cost now. Golly. At least we're good probably for another 100,000 miles.
I use matches all the time at the burn pit. There's one of the those mechanical fire starters in the house but it's too hard to use. I save that one for the candles. Less smoke.
    Have a great day! 💙

  3. What a great song that was, Terri. I wish I could have a nose-twitch power to clean my house, too - lol! Have a great weekend!

  4. LOLOL. What an impressive summer, LOL(being silly). The price of tires and such, outrageous. My second toe is also bigger, so what does that mean? Hmmm....wishing you a beautiful weekend. smiles

  5. I loved that song! My fav seasons in order? Winter, Fall, Spring (begrudgingly) and Summer (yuk). I was thinking about Gabe Kaplan recently, remembering how we used to love Welcome Back Kotter. Wishing I could twitch my nose and time travel!

  6. Yes, new tires are a BIG deal! For the cost of tires you could have spent the weekend at the beach, but you would have had to worry about your tires going flat, so it's good you made the wise choice! Now I hope you can use those new tires to go someplace fun! LOL. I've always heard that people with a longer second toe are very intelligent, and so this is definitely proof! LOL. I loved those old shows too, and yes, I have often wished I could wiggle my nose and my house would be clean and supper cooked. Oh wow! Wouldn't that be great???? LOL. Have a great weekend. I think you are using your new tires to go visit your grandkids today, if I remember correctly! Have a good time!

  9. I giggled at your last answer!! I don't know what that means! My big toe is definitely the longest. But I'm having hammer toe issues. I walk around here every morning with gel toe spacers. Thankfully my feet fit into my crocs with those on.
