A Very English Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Thanks to our hostess, Joyce, for today's Hodgepodge!!  Y'all can join the fun HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 569

From this Side of the Pond

1. Something that's had you 'chuffed to bits' recently?  I've been chuffed to bits lately about getting so many things done in the house.  I'm happy with myself for getting things organized and the work scheduled, and look forward to having it all done in time for the coming holiday season!  That's my plan, anyway.

2. Tell us about an instance recently where you were tempted to 'throw a wobbly' (expression used to describe tantrums thrown, usually by adults or people who should know better)  I didn't really throw a wobbly, but was sure tempted when the work crew that did my screening and barrier work two weeks ago did a terrible job.  I called the company to complain.  They sent someone out to look and he agreed with me that the work was not as it should be.  He came back a couple of days later and made it all up to standard.  I'm not a complainer, but I paid too much money to settle for shoddy work.

3. Something everyone seems to love but is not your 'cuppa tea'I'm not particularly fond of hot tea.  I  also do not like okra, which is a staple here in the south.

4. Fish and chips, bangers and mash, shepherd's pie, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding...which entree would you choose? Yes, you have to choose. I like them all but to put them in order:  roast beef with Yorkshire pudding; fish and chips; bangers and mash; shepherd's pie.  Yum.

5. Something you want for your birthday this year?  My birthday is two weeks before Christmas and this one is not a "biggie" so lunch out with friends, calls from family, and Christmas to look forward to.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  Today, I have the Women's Bible Study at 11:00, my hair appointment at 2:30, and a ton (yes, it weighs a ton) of flooring being delivered to my house.  Yikes.  I will be climbing over piles of flooring for the next month.  Not sure where it will all end up being stored but it has to acclimate to the house before it's installed. Next project on the way.  Only one more to go.

Peace and Hugs!

So through all the length of days,
Thy goodness faileth never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing Thy praise,
Within Thy house forever.
Within Thy house forever.

  1. This was fun! I like all things British and I know you have a fondness for them too. :)
You've been busy since retiring but good for you for all you've got done.
Can't wait to see that flooring!
Today we are having a slider door installed in our dining room, so I'm excited for that!

  2. I hate shoddy workmanship and am glad you got your issue resolved. New flooring will be so nice. Living through the install, etc is trying but will be so worth it. Have a great day!

  3. I like most all things British too.
Good for you getting the shoddy workmanship fixed. We've only had to do that a couple of times in our lives. It's well worth "complaining" about sometimes.
Can't wait to see the new floor! Bet it's going to look super.
Have a great day my friend. 💙

  4. Good for you, holding that company responsible for fixing what you paid good money for! I never heard of flooring having to acclimate to a house before installation. Interesting!
I've tried many a time, but just can't 'get' the appeal of hot tea. (Had I played the Hodgepodge my answer would be sushi.)

  5. You are getting things done - it just takes patience.
Good for you getting the skirting done right!!!!
I like tea and okra - lol.
And sharing your birthday with friends is what it is all about.

  6. I haven't made a Shepard's Pie in ages, Terri, and I'm not a big fan of okra unless it's fried. All your projects are really coming along! Blessings!

  7. I need to look up what Yorkshire pudding is. And also bangers and mash!

Flooring!! Do tell! What did you get? I am all ears, because I really want to replace our flooring before we would ever need to sell this house some day.

  8. Here I sit with a cuppa hot tea beside me, and I literally just had fried okra for lunch at True Grits restaurant in town! LOL. It was great! And tea is one that is supposed to help with digestion, so it's helping the fried okra and country fried steak and mashed potatoes and white gravy settle down and behave! LOL. We went out to lunch because John had a Dr. appt. in Gainesville this morning and we got back in town just in time for lunch and I didn't want to go home and fix our usual boring lunch. LOL. Wow! that's a LOT of flooring, a whole ton? So you will be doing every room in the house? Is it vinyl plank? Just wondering. It will be a BIG job, but hopefully the installers will take care of moving all the furniture for you. BUT you do have to pack up things that are on the furniture, like books, dishes, etc., so I hate to tell you but it's a LOT like moving! We went through that a couple of years ago, and I love the floors, but I'm glad I don't have to do it again! LOL. I can't wait to see what you are getting. Oh, good for you standing your ground about the skirting issue. Glad it has been resolved. Take care and pace yourself dear friend!! Rome wasn't built in a day! LOL.

  10. I had to look up “chuffed to bits” because that was a term completely unfamiliar to me. I am so glad you are enjoying and maximizing your first weeks of retirement.

As for hot tea and okra, I like both and have had both today! (we had lunch at Cracker Barrel, which is where I got the okra)

As for the food entrees, not sure what Yorkshire pudding is, nor Bangers and Mash, but I feel pretty safe choosing fish and chips.

As for all that flooring weighing a ton, you don’t need to worry about your house blowing away!!!

  11. Fish and chips is the only one I'm sure I'd like! I like fried okra, but due to my gluten allergy, I have to make substitutions and make it myself, and that's not so much fun.

  12. I'm not a hot tea fan either . . .but fried or grilled okra - yum! I do not like it pickled or stewed(boiled?). I'm so excited for you and your house projects!
